Optimal Unity Power Factor Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with q-axis Field by Inverse LQ Method

  • A synchronous motor(SM) with q-axis special field winding of which the q-axis field-current compensates and cancels armature reaction can be driven at unity power factor under the conditions of transient state as well as steady state. The motor operates in high efficiency in all conditions. However, in order to obtain maximum performance of the motor, it is required that the time constant of armature circuit corresponds to that of q-axis field circuit. Inverse LQ(ILQ) design method on a basis of the pole assignment is suitable for this problem:(1) The time constants of the output responses can be designed for desired specifications, (2) Relations between feedback gains and response of closed loop system are very clear and (3) Optimal solutions can be given by simple procedure of ILQ method without solving the Ricaati's equation, compared to the usual LQ design method. Accordingly, the ILQ method can make the responses of armature current and q-axis field-current correspond. In this paper, it is proved by numerical simulations and experiments that the ILQ method is very effective for optimal regulator design of this plant and realizes a high-performance motor with unity power factor and high efficiency.

  • From the discovery of Alago's disk, a number of trials and efforts have been concentrated on a small-sized and light-weighted induction motor. They have devoted themseleves, however, mainly to a improvement of cooling effect, a proper weight-distribution of copper and iron and desirable number of slots. In consequence, such an effort restricted only to the field of design, has resulted in unsatisfactory developments in the insulating materials consisting of the main parts of an induction motor. The quality of fibre and paper which are used as class-A insulation materials with their "compound" and "varnish" has been increased to some extent. Similarly Class-B insulation materials like asbest mica has been almost a combination of inorganic and binding materials. But nowadays synthesic chemistry is making a remarkable progress. So it comes possible for us to have silicon resin and other good ones of similar charateristics. And even a thin silicon resin insures us to get excellent heat-pro f and insulation, so a better space factor and cost-down in motor design have come possible in most advanced nations of the world, but not in our country. Furthermore, a consideration of productivity and economy in manufacturing process has been neglected by a majority of engineers. This is more unpleasant und more undesirable. I think this rational method of induction motor design using new synthesic resin will devote in making your productivity and economy better. Design, modelling and analysis of a new type of IPMC motor

  • The properties of Electroactive Polymer (EAP) materials are attracting the attention of engineers and scientists from many different disciplines. From the point-of-view of robotics, Ionic Polymer Metal Composites (IPMC) belong to the most developed group of the EAP class. To allow effective design of IPMC-actuated mechanisms with large induced strains, it is necessary to have adequate analytical tools for predicting the behavior of IPMC actuators as well as simulating their response as part of prototyping methodologies. This paper presents a novel IPMC motor construction. To simulate the bending behavior that is the dominant phenomenon of motor movement process, a nonlinear model is used. To accomplish the motor design, the IPMC model was identified via a series of experiments. In the proposed model, the curvature output and current transient fields accurately track the measured responses, which is verified by measurements. In this research, a three-dimensional Finite Element Method (FEM) model of the IPMC motor, composed of IPMC actuators, simultaneously determines the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the device and achieves reliable analysis results. The principle of the proposed drive and the output signals are illustrated in this paper. The proposed modelling approach can be used to design a variety of controllers and motors for effective micro-robotic applications, where soft and complex motion are required.

  • The parameter through the motor designing program is used to predict motor response and design the motor drive circuits. The application programs such as "Saber" are often used for these. However, making the electrical model of motor for these simulation tool is uncomfortable and impossible for general users.   • In this research, the design procedure and the design method of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor (LSPM) are proposed. In the design procedure, the permanent magnet is designed first and the windings and capacitors are designed later. As well, the points of design of each design parameter are explained. In the design of the single-phase LSPM, the equivalent circuit method is combined with the finite element method (FEM) because it has a shorter analysis time than FEM. The 400 watts single-phase LSPM is designed and manufactured. The characteristics of the manufactured single-phase LSPM are analyzed and experimented. From the analysis result and the experiment result, it is verified that the design procedure and the design method of the single-phase LSPM is valid.

인치웜 리니어 모터 시스템 설계 및 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design and Manufacture of an Inchworm Linear Motor System)

  • Ultra precision positioning mechanism has widely been used on semiconductor manufacturing equipments, optical spectrum analyzer and cell manipulations. Ultra precision positioning mechanism is consisted of several actuators, sensors, guides and control systems. Its efficiency depends on each performance of components. The object of this study is to design, analysis and manufacture all of the inchworm linear motor system, which is one of the equipments embodied in ultra precision positioning mechanism. Inchworm linear motor system is consisted of a controller system and an inchworm linear motor, and its driving form is similar to a motion of spanworm. A design and manufacture of inchworm linear motor, which is consisted of three PZT actuators, a rod, two columns and a guide plate, are performed. Minimizing the von-Mises stress of the hinge using Taguchi method and simulation by FEM software optimizes the structural design in a column of flexure hinge. The designed columns and guide plates are manufactured by a W-EDM and NC-milling. A controller system, which is an apparatus to drive inchworm linear motor, can easily adjust driving conditions by varying resonance frequency and input-output voltage of actuators and amplifiers. The performance of manufactured inchworm linear motor system is verified and valuated. In the future, inchworm linear motor system will be used to make a more precision positioning by reinforcing a sensor and feedback system.

  • In accordance with global energy conservation policies such as MEPS(Minimum Energy Performance Standard), electric motor industry is moving to super-high-efficiency machines and research to develop IE4 (International Energy Efficiency Class4) motors has been launched. In this situation, SynRM (Synchronous Reluctance Motor) has been attracting attention in place of induction motor which hardly provides super premium efficiency. As a result, much research on SynRM is being performed at home and abroad. Also, some products have already been appearing in the market. Compared to induction motor, SynRM has better efficiency per unit area and wider operating range. Although the utilization of control system in synchronous motor results in higher prices, we still need to concentrate on developments of SynRM so as to comply with the new policies. This study demonstrated the electromagnetic design methods of super-premium SynRM while maintaining the frame of existing IE3 induction motor for blower. We documented the design procedures for generating high saliency which is the most essential and mechanical stress analysis is also treated. In conclusion, we proved the validity of our design by manufacturing and testing our SynRM models.

  • 본 논문은 공조시스템에 사용되는 1마력급 2상 BLDC 팬모터의 설계 및 구현에 관하여 기술한다. 본 연구에서 구현한 BLDC 모터는 수명 및 내구성이 우수한 무정류자 모터방식이며 2상 전원에 의해 구동된다. 공조시스템에 사용되는 모터의 가장 중요한 목표사양은 정격운전점에서 높은 효율을 갖는 것이다. 이를 위해 BLDC 모터의 고정자 형상과 회전자 자석의 설계를 수행하고 구동을 위한 제어회로를 설계하였다. BLDC 모터는 모터부와 제어부 그리고 전원부가 일체화된 구조를 갖는다. BLDC 모터의 특성계산을 위해 유한요소해석을 사용하였으며 시제품의 제작 및 성능시험을 실시하여 설계결과의 적합성을 확인하였다.

  • Generally, motor controller design is based on its motor dynamics. Therefore, it requires precise information of its motor dynamics. However, most of the low cost DC motors, which are widely used in industries and academia, are provided without such precise information. Even if it is given, the information is mostly imprecise. Following circumstances require one to calculate the motor dynamics information for oneself. This paper presents a simple method to readily apprehend the DC motor dynamics. First, how to establish the model of DC motor dynamics along with the model parameter identification is presented. Then, the parameter values are finetuned until the simulation response based on the dynamics model is close to the experimental response of the motor. Finally, the controller is designed with the established dynamics model. The validity of the designed controller is confirmed by the comparison of the experiment and simulation.

  • The objectives of this paper are to establish an equivalent magnetic circuit of the hybrid PM step motor and to apply the canonical piecewise linear eqation and the Kazenelson algorithm of solving the nonlinear magnetic circuit, so that the static holding torque and the magnetic properties of the motor are determined. The results of that are applied to the design of the hybrid step motor.
