  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive search range decision algorithm for fast motion estimation of video coding. Block matching algorithm for motion vector estimation that improves coding efficiency by reduction of temporal redundancy has trade-off problem between the motion vector accuracy and the complexity. The proposed algorithm playing as a pre-processing of fast motion estimation adaptively determines the motion search range by the local statistics of neighboring motion vectors. resulting in dramatic reduction of the computational cost without the loss of coding efficiency. Experimental results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper effective block matching algorithms are proposed to find the motion vector. There are two approaches to the estimation of the motion vector in MCC (motion compensated coding), i.e.pel(pixel element) recursive algorithm and block matching algorithm. The search algorithm in this paper is based on the block matching method. The advantage of this algorithm is the reduction of the computation time. In order to reduce the computation time, three mathods are proposed in this paper. These new algorithms are faster than other methods. Compared with the three step algorithm by Koga et al., the average ratio of the computational savings obtained from the proposed algorithm is about 3-4.

  • Although motion estimation Plays an important role in digital video compression, complex search procedure is required to find an optimal motion vector. To reduce the search time, the search start point should be set up properly md efficient search pattern is needed. If the overall motion of the torrent block can be predicted, motion estimation can be performed efficiently. In this paper. block types are classified using candidate vectors and the motion activity of the block is predicted which leads to the search start point close to the optimal motion vector. The proposed method proves to be about 1.5$\sim$7 times faster than existing methods with about 0.02$\sim$0.2(dB) improvement of picture quality in images with large movements.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm using motion prediction and neural network. Considering that the motion vectors have high spatial correlation, the motion vector of current block is predicted by those of neighboring blocks. The codebook of motion vector is designed by Kohonen self-organizing feature map(KSFM) learning algorithm which has a fast learning speed and 2-D adaptive chararteristics. Since the similar codevectors are closely located in the 2-D codebook the motion is progressively estimated from the predicted codevector in the codebook. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method has a good performance with reduced computational complexity.

  • We present a fast adaptive block matching algorithm using variable search area and subsampling to estimate motion vector more exactly. In the presented method, the block is classified into one of three motion categories: zero motion vector block, medium-motion bolck or high-motion block according to mean absolute difference of the block. By the simulation, the computation amount of the presented methoe comparable to three step search algorithm and new three step search algorithm. In the fast image sequence, the PSNR of our algorithm increased more than TSS and NTSS, because our algorithm estimated motion vector more accurately.

  • In this paper, we propose design of a high-performance vehicle imaging information system for an efficient vehicle imaging stabilization. The proposed system was designed the algorithm by divided as motion estimation and motion compensation. The motion estimation were configured as local motion vector estimation and irregular local motion vector detection, global motion vector estimation. The motion compensation was corrected for the four directions for compensate to the shake of vehicle video image using estimate GMV. The designed algorithm were designed the motion compensation technology chip by applied to IP for vehicle imaging stabilization. In this paper, the experimental results of the proposed vehicle imaging information system were proved to the effectiveness by compared with other methods, because imaging stabilization of moving vehicle was not used of memory by processing real-time. Also, it could be obtained to reduction effect of calculation time by arithmetic operation through to block matching.

  • Visual odometry is a popular approach to estimating robot motion using a monocular or stereo camera. This paper proposes a novel visual odometry scheme using a stereo camera for robust estimation of a 6 DOF motion in the dynamic environment. The false results of feature matching and the uncertainty of depth information provided by the camera can generate the outliers which deteriorate the estimation. The outliers are removed by analyzing the magnitude histogram of the motion vector of the corresponding features and the RANSAC algorithm. The features extracted from a dynamic object such as a human also makes the motion estimation inaccurate. To eliminate the effect of a dynamic object, several candidates of dynamic objects are generated by clustering the 3D position of features and each candidate is checked based on the standard deviation of features on whether it is a real dynamic object or not. The accuracy and practicality of the proposed scheme are verified by several experiments and comparisons with both IMU and wheel-based odometry. It is shown that the proposed scheme works well when wheel slip occurs or dynamic objects exist.

  • In this paper, an efficient block matching algorithm which is based on the Block Sum Pyramid Algorithm (BSPA) is presented. The cost of BSPA[1] was reduced in the proposed algorithm by using l2 norm and partial distortion elimination technique. Motion estimation accuracy of the proposed algorithm is equal to that of BSPA. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was verified by experimental results.

  • This paper propose the fast motion estimation algorithm with adaptive search range adjustment using motion activities of temporal and spatial neighbor blocks. The existing fast motion estimation algorithms with adaptive search range adjustment use the maximum motion vector of all blocks in the reference frame. So these algorithms may not control a optimum search range for slow moving block in current frame. The proposed algorithm use the maximum motion vector of neighbor blocks in the reference frame to control a optimum search range for slow moving block. So the proposed algorithm can reduce computation time for motion estimation. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the number of search points about 15% more than Simple Dynamic Search Range(SDSR) algorithm while maintaining almost the same bit-rate and motion estimation error.

  • Motion Estimation which is used to reduce the redundant data plays an important role in video compressions. However, it requires huge computational complexity of the encoder part. And therefore many fast motion estimation methods has been developed to reduce complexity. Multi-view video is obtained by using many cameras at different positions and its complexity increases in proportion to the number of cameras. In this paper, we proposed a fast motion estimation method for multi-view video. The proposed method predicts a search start point by using correlated candidate vectors of the current block. According to the motion size of the start search point, a search start pattern of the current block is decided adaptively. The proposed method proves to be about 2 ~ 5 times faster than existing methods while maintaining similar image quality and bitrates.
