The present study investigated the earthquake behavior of R/C structures considering the vertical earthquake motion with the help of a comparative study. For this aim, the linear time-history analyses of a high-rise R/C structure designed according to TSC-2007 requirements were conducted including and excluding the vertical earthquake motion. Earthquake records used in the analyses were selected based on the ratio of vertical peak acceleration to horizontal peak acceleration (V/H). The frequency-domain analyses of the earthquake records were also performed to compare the dominant frequency of the records with that of the structure. Based on the results obtained from the time-history analyses under the earthquake loading with (H+V) and without the vertical earthquake motion (H), the value of the overturning moment and the top-story vertical displacement were found to relatively increase when considering the vertical earthquake motion. The base shear force was also affected by this motion; however, its increase was lower compared to the overturning moment and the top-story vertical displacement. The other two parameters, the top-story lateral displacement and the top-story rotation angle, barely changed under H and H+V loading cases. Modal damping ratios and their variations in horizontal and vertical directions were also estimated using response acceleration records. No significant change in the horizontal damping ratio was observed whereas the vertical modal damping ratio noticeably increased under H+V loading. The results obtained from this study indicate that the desired structural earthquake performance cannot be provided under H+V loading due to the excessive increase in the overturning moment, and that the vertical damping ratio should be estimated considering the vertical earthquake motion.

In video coding standard H.264/AVC, motion estimation using multiple reference pictures improves compression efficiency but the efficiency depends upon image content not the number of reference pictures. So, the motion estimation includes a large amount of computation of no worth according to image. This paper proposes fast motion estimation algorithm that removes worthless computation in the motion estimation using multiple reference pictures. The proposed algorithm classifies a block into valid and invalid blocks for the multiple reference pictures and removes the workless computation by applying a single reference picture to the invalid block. To estimate the proposed algorithm's performance, image quality, bit rate, and motion estimation time are compared with ones of the conventional algorithm in the reference software JM 9.5. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can considerably save about 38.67% the averaged motion estimation time while keeping the image quality and the bit rate, whose are average values are -0.02dB and -0.77% respectively, as good as the conventional algorithm.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive search range allocation algorithm for high-performance HEVC encoder and a hardware architecture suitable for the proposed algorithm. In order to improve the prediction performance, the existing motion vector is configured with the motion vectors of the neighboring blocks as prediction vector candidates, and a search range of a predetermined size is allocated using one motion vector having a minimum difference from the current motion vector. The proposed algorithm reduces the computation time by reducing the size of the search range by assigning the size of the search range to the rectangle and octagon type according to the structure of the motion vectors for the surrounding four blocks. Moreover, by using all four motion vectors, it is possible to predict more precisely. By realizing it in a form suitable for hardware, hardware area and computation time are effectively reduced.

In this paper, we propose a new framework that calculates the user's hand motions using a Leap Motion device, and uses this to practice and analyze arm muscles as well as juggling motions. The proposed method can map the movement of the ball in a virtual environment according to the user's hand motions in real time, and analyze the amount of exercise by visualizing the relaxation and contraction of the muscles. The proposed framework consists of three main parts : 1) It tracks the user's hand position with the Leap Motion device. 2) As with juggling, the action pattern of the user throwing the ball is defined as an event. 3) We propose a parabola-based particle method to map the movement of a juggling shape to a ball based on the user's hand position. As a result, using the our framework, it is possible to play a juggling game in real-time.

Objective: This study aimed to quantify one of the useful upper extremity movements to evaluate motor control abilities between the groups of people with mild and moderate arm impairments performing a door handling task. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-one healthy participants and twenty-one persons with chronic stroke (9 mild stroke and 12 moderate stroke) were recruited for this study. Stroke participants were divided into 2 groups based on Fugle-Meyer Assessment scores of 58-65 (mild arm) and 38-57 (moderate arm). All they performed door handling task including the pronation and supination phases 3 times. We measured some movement factors which were reaction time, movement time, hand of peak velocity, hand of movement units to perform door handling task using the three-dimensional motion analysis. Results: The majority of kinematic variables showed significant differences among study groups (p<0.05). The reaction time, total and phase of movement time, hand of peak velocity, the number of movement units discriminated between healthy participants and persons with moderate upper limb stroke (p<0.05). In addition, reaction time, total and phase of movement time, the number of movement units discriminated between those with moderate and mild upper limbs of stroke patients (p<0.05). Conclusions: Three-dimensional kinematic motion analysis in this study was a useful tool for assessing the upper extremity function in different subgroups of people with stroke during the door handling task. These kinematic variables may help clinicians understand the arm movements in door handling task and consist of discriminative therapeutic interventions for stroke patients on upper extremity rehabilitation.
This paper presents a method for feature based block motion estimation that uses multi -resolution image sequences to obtain the panoramic images in the continuous ultrasound image sequences. In the conventional block motion estimation method, the centers of motion estimation blocks are set at the predetermined and equally spaced locations. This requires the large blocks to include at least one feature, which inevitably requires long estimation time. In this paper, we propose an adaptive method which locates the center of the motion estimation blocks at the feature points. This make it possible to reduce the block size while keeping the motion estimation accuracy The Harris-Stephen corner detector is used to get the feature points. The comer points tend to group together, which cause the error in the global motion estimation. In order to distribute the feature points as evenly as Possible, the image is firstly divided into regular subregions, and a strongest corner point is selected as a feature in each subregion. The ultrasound Images contain speckle patterns and noise. In order to reduce the noise artifact and reduce the computational time, the proposed method use the multi-resolution image sequences. The first algorithm estimates the motion in the smoothed low resolution image, and the estimated motion is prolongated to the next higher resolution image. By this way the size of search region can be reduced in the higher resolution image. Experiments were performed on three types of ultrasound image sequences. These were shown that the proposed method reduces both the computational time (from 77ms to 44ms) and the displaced frame difference (from 66.02 to 58.08).

Fully flexible cell preserves Hamiltonian in structure so that the symplectic time integrator is applicable to the equations of motion. In the direct formulation of fully flexible cell N-Sigma-T ensemble, a generalized leapfrog time integration (GLF) is applicable for fully flexible cell simulation, but the equations of motion by GLF has structure of implicit algorithm. In this paper, the time integration formula is derived for the fully flexible cell molecular dynamics simulation by using the splitting time integration. It separates flexible cell Hamiltonian into terms corresponding to each of Hamiltonian term. Thus the simple and completely explicit recursion formula was obtained. We compare the performance and the result of present splitting time integration with those of the implicit generalized leapfrog time integration.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the relation between swing phase and airborne phase of Tkatchev motion which was successfully performed with following motion by excellent middle and high school athletes in horizontal bar. Method: The subjects for this study were 8 male middle and high school top athletes. After their Tkatchev motions were filmed by two digital highspeed camcorders setting in 90 frames/sec at the 44th National Gymnastics against Cities and Provinces, the % lapse time lapse time of each instant, inferred maximum force acting on horizontal bar, and other kinematical variables were calculated through DLT method. After the relations among the % lapse times of each instants of downswing-start, downswing-finish, whipswing-finish, release, peak-height, and lapse time of regrasp, the relation among maximum force acting on bar, % lapse time, peak height, and the relation between % lapse time and release height were examined, the biomechanical timing characteristics of Tkatchev motion were as follows. Results: Firstly, it was revealed that the whole lapse time was $1.62{\pm}.06s$ and the correlation between the % lapse time of downswing-start and % lapse time of release was .819. Secondly, it was revealed that the pattern of COG path was shifted forwardly and tilted 11 clockwise from origin. Thirdly, it was revealed that maximum force acting on bar was inferred in $2,283{\pm}425N$ ($4.7{\pm}.6BW$) and the correlation between maximum force and peak height was r = .893. Lastly, it was revealed that the horizontal and vertical component of body COG velocity was $-2.14{\pm}.29m/s$, $2.70{\pm}.43m/s$ respectively, release height was $.49{\pm}.12m$, and shoulder angle was $139{\pm}5deg$, and that the later the % lapse time of release, the higher the release height (r = .935). Conclusion: It is desired that the gymnastic athletes should delay the downswing-start near the horizontal plane on $2^{nd}$ quadrant because the later the % lapse time of downswing, the higher the release height. After all the higher release height could ensure the athletes to regrasp the bar safely, the athletes should exercise to make downswing-start delay.
Tracking of moving objects within video streams is a complex and time-consuming process. Large number of moving objects increases the time for computation of tracking the moving objects. Because of large computations, there are real-time processing problems in tracking of moving objects. Also, the change of environment causes errors in estimation of tracking information. In this paper, we present a new method for tracking of moving objects using optical flow motion analysis. Optical flow represents an important family of visual information processing techniques in computer vision. Segmenting an optical flow field into coherent motion groups and estimating each underlying motion are very challenging tasks when the optical flow field is projected from a scene of several moving objects independently. The problem is further complicated if the optical flow data are noisy and partially incorrect. Optical flow estimation based on regulation method is an iterative method, which is very sensitive to the noisy data. So we used the Combinatorial Hough Transform (CHT) and Voting Accumulation for finding the optimal constraint lines. To decrease the operation time, we used logical operations. Optical flow vectors of moving objects are extracted, and the moving information of objects is computed from the extracted optical flow vectors. The simulation results on the noisy test images show that the proposed method finds better flow vectors and more correctly estimates the moving information of objects in the real time video streams.

To survive head-to-head competition, we should keep our labor productivities above those of other nations. However, our labor productivities are low compared to those of the developed countries. It is the well-known fact that we make up for the productivities with long work hours. Entering the line of developed nations safely and enjoying well-being age freely, we need to achieve high labor productivities without sacrificing work hours. What would be a fine solution? Back to the basics! Although it is important to enforce R&D on high-tech products, we should have so-called bluebird philosophy, being faithful to the basics and trying to find solutions at a stone's throw. Basics of basics may be unceasing improvement, establishing reasonable standard times, and maintaining them. To support going back to the basics, this thesis proposes VITAMAX, a motion and time study software. As VITAMAX stands for "Visual Improvement and Time Analysis for Maximizing Profits", it provides a simple and powerful visual tool which is useful for improving manual works and determining standard times. Since VITAMAX is based on the Microsoft Excel and VBA, it is very cost-effective and easy to use. VITAMAX may contribute to the profit increase of manufacturing companies, especially for the small and medium-sized enterprise.
