Car Collision Verification System for the Ubiquitous Parking Management (유비쿼터스 주차관리를 위한 차량충돌 검증시스템)

  • Most researches in WSN-based parking management system used wireless sensors to monitor the events in a car parking area. However, the problem of car collisions in car parks was not discussed by previous researches. The car position details over time are vital in analyzing a collision event. This paper proposes a collision verification method to detect and to analyze the collision event in the parking area, and then notifies car owners. The detection uses the information from motion sensors for comprehensive details of position and direction of a moving car, and the verification processes an object tracking technique with a fast OBB intersection test. The performance tests show that the location technique is more accurate with additional sensors and the OBB collision test is faster compared to a normal OBB intersection test.

  • Eye movements serve vision by placing the image of an object on the fovea of each retina, and by preventing slippage of images on the retina. The brain employs two modes of ocular motor control, fast eye movements (saccades) and smooth eye movements. Saccades bring the fovea to a target, and smooth eye movements prevent retinal image slip. Smooth eye movements comprise smooth pursuit, the optokinetic reflex, the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), vergence, and fixation. Saccades achieve rapid refixation of targets that fall on the extrafoveal retina by moving the eyes at peak velocities that can exceed $700^{\circ}/s$. Various brain lesions can affect saccadic latency, velocity, or accuracy. Smooth pursuit maintains fixation of a slowly moving target. The pursuit system responds to slippage of an image near the fovea in order to accelerate the eyes to a velocity that matches that of the target. When smooth eye movements velocity fails to match target velocity, catch-up saccades are used to compensate for limited smooth pursuit velocities. The VOR subserves vision by generating conjugate eye movements that are equal and opposite to head movements. If the VOR gain (the ratio of eye velocity to head velocity) is too high or too low, the target image is off the fovea, and head motion causes oscillopsia, an illusory to-and-fro movement of the environment.

Development of Master-slave System for Robot-assisted Remote Ultrasound Diagnosis (로봇 지원 원격 초음파 영상진단을 위한 마스터-슬레이브 시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, we introduce a robot-assisted medical diagnostic system that enables remote ultrasound (US) imaging to be applied to the conventional telemedicine, which has been possible only with interviewing or a visual exam. In particular, a master-slave robot system is developed that ultrasonic diagnosis specialist can control the position and orientation of US probe in the remote place. The slave robot is designed to be compact, lightweight, and hand-held so that it can easily transfer to the remote healthcare center. Moreover, 6-degree-of-freedom (DOF) probe motion is possible by the robot design based on Stewart platform. The master device is also based on a similar structure of the slave robot. To connect master and slave system in the wide area network (WAN) environment, a hardware CODEC was developed. In this paper, we introduce the detail of each component and the results of the recent experiments conducted in the remote sites by the developed robotic ultrasound imaging system.

A Study on Development of Algorithm for Seam Tracking by Considering Weld Defects in Horizontal Fillet Welding (수평필릿용접에서 용접결함을 고려한 용접선 자동추적 알고리즘개발에 관한 연구)

  • Among various welding parameters, the welding current which is inversely proportional to the tip-to-workpiece distance in GMAW is an essential parameter to monitor the GMAW process of horizontal fillet joints. For the case of weld defect such as overlap in horizontal fillet welding, therefore, the signal processing for process monitoring or automatic seam tracking should be modified by considering the weld pool surface geometry including the corresponding weld defect. In other words, the adequate signal processing algorithm is indispensible to improve the performance of the arc sensor. However, arc sensor algorithm already developed usually focus on weld seam tracing but do not considering the weld qualities. In this paper, various experiments were carried out to investigate the tendencies of the weld defects when weaving motion is added, and the experimental method based on 2$^n$ factorial design was proposed for deriving the mathematical model between the leg length and the various welding conditions. Moreover, a signal processing method based on the artificial neural network(Adaptive Resonance Theory) was proposed far discriminating the current signal of sound weld beads from that of weld beads with overlap. Finally, the algorithm for weld seam tracking combined with the mathematical modeling and the signal processing method was carried out to track the weld line in conjunction with the improvement of the weld qualities. The reliability of the proposed algorithms were evaluated through various experiments, which showed that the proposed algorithms could be effectively used for arc welding automation.

  • As we become an aging society, the number of elderly patients continues to increase. Pressure sores that can easily occur in patients with trauma cause serious socio-economic problems. In general, prevention of bedsores through predicting the patient's posture is being developed. Developed method usually use artificial intelligence techniques to estimate the patient's posture by measured pressure images in the mattress. In this method, it has a problem the reduction of estimation accuracy when posture of patient is changed. Therefore, it is necessary to use the filter of pressure images in the position transition of patient. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to predict the patient's posture, and an algorithm to reduce the ambiguity that can occur in the patient's posture transition section. By obtaining stable data through this algorithm, learning/prediction stability of the neural network can be expected, and prediction performance is improved accordingly. Through experiments, the effectiveness of the algorithm was verified.

Neural Learning-Based Inverse Kinematics of a Robotic Finger (뉴럴 러닝 기반 로봇 손가락의 역기구학)

  • The planar motion of the index finger in general human hands is usually implemented by the actuation of three joints. This task requires a technique to determine the joint combination for each fingertip position which is well-known as the inverse kinematics problem in robotics. Especially, it is an essential work for grasping and manipulation tasks by robotic and humanoid fingers. In this paper, an intelligent neural learning scheme for solving such inverse kinematics is presented. Specifically, a multi-layered neural network is utilized for effective inverse kinematics, where a dynamic neural learning algorithm is employed for fast learning. Also, a bio-mimetic feature of general human fingers is incorporated to the learning scheme. The usefulness of the proposed approach is verified by simulations.

Visual Perception in Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Review of Neuroimaging Studies

  • Although autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by social impairments, patients with ASD frequently manifest atypical sensory behaviors. Recently, atypical sensory perception in ASD has received much attention, yet little is known about its cause or neurobiology. Herein, we review the findings from neuroimaging studies related to visual perception in ASD. Specifically, we examined the neural underpinnings of visual detection, motion perception, and face processing in ASD. Results from neuroimaging studies indicate that atypical visual perception in ASD may be influenced by attention or higher order cognitive mechanisms, and atypical face perception may be affected by disrupted social brain network. However, there is considerable evidence for atypical early visual processing in ASD. It is likely that visual perceptual abnormalities are independent of deficits of social functions or cognition. Importantly, atypical visual perception in ASD may enhance difficulties in dealing with complex and subtle social stimuli, or improve outstanding abilities in certain fields in individuals with Savant syndrome. Thus, future research is required to elucidate the characteristics and neurobiology of autistic visual perception to effectively apply these findings in the interventions of ASD.

  • In this paper, The planar waveguide slotted antenna is presented for a satellite communication of vehicles. In stead of the microstrip patch array antenna having a dielectric loss and a feeding loss, the proposed antenna has the 3-layered waveguide feeding network structure for assembling easily. Also this antenna can receive mechanically both RHCP and LHCP transmitted from a satellite using a polarizer made from a thin single layer film. The Gain of the proposed 4X8 array antenna is 27.5dB and the gain of 8X16 array antenna is 32dB.

Human Activity Recognition using Multi-temporal Neural Networks (다중 시구간 신경회로망을 이용한 인간 행동 인식)

  • A lot of studies have been conducted to recognize the motion state or behavior of the user using the acceleration sensor built in the smartphone. In this paper, we applied the neural networks to the 3-axis acceleration information of smartphone to study human behavior. There are performance issues in applying time series data to neural networks. We proposed a multi-temporal neural networks which have trained three neural networks with different time windows for feature extraction and uses the output of these neural networks as input to the new neural network. The proposed method showed better performance than other methods like SVM, AdaBoot and IBk classifier for real acceleration data.

A Composite Fault-plane Solution of Microearthquakes in the Yangsan Fault Area during 1996 (1996년 양산단층 일대의 미소지진을 이용한 복합단층면해)

  • From the seismic network data of the Korea Institute of Geology, Mining & Materials during 1995-1996, we derived a composite fault-plane solution of the microearthquakes occurred in the Yangsan fault area. The composite fault-plane solution of nine events shows the orientation of fault 15 ± 3°in strike, 60 ± 8°in dip and 140°in rake or 128 ± 3°in strike, 56 ± 8°in dip and 37°in rake. The compressional axis of the stress field trends ENE to WSW, and this field suggests strike-slip motion with thrust component. The result is consistent with the 1996 Yeong-weol event and the stress field in and around the Korean Peninsula, previously reported.
