This study focuses on the behavioural lexical classification for extracting animation character actions and the analysis of the character's upper and lower body movements. The behaviour and state of characters in the animation industry are crucial, and digital technology is enhancing the industry's value. However, research on animation motion application technology and behavioural lexical classification is still lacking. Therefore, this study aims to classify the predicates enabling animation motion, differentiate the upper and lower body movements of characters, and apply the behavioural lexicon's motion data. The necessity of this research lies in the potential contributions of advanced character motion technology to various industrial fields, and the use of the behavioural lexicon to elucidate and repurpose character motion. The research method applies a grammatical, behavioural, and semantic predicate classification and behavioural motion analysis based on the character's upper and lower body movements.

This study was conducted to improve the classification schemes of KDC in the fields of motion picture materials. Classification schemes of the KDC, DDC and LCC for motion picture materials were analyzed and compared. From the results, KDC was found to be the least suitable classification system to handle motion picture materials because it had very poorly detailed subdivisions of items and incomplete subsidiary tables to develop some subject items to represent various aspects of motion picture fields. Some suggestions to cover the deficiencies of KDC for motion picture fields were made in terms of 9 subdivisions and 53 sub-items. Particularly, new subdivisions of ‘types of genre', ’motion picture festival', 'worldwide motion pictures' and ’people related to motion pictures' were added.
Hand motion classification problem is considered as basis for sign or gesture recognition. We promote optical flow as main feature extracted from images sequences to simultaneously segment the motion's area by its magnitude and characterize the motion' s directions by its orientation. We manage the flow orientation histogram as motion descriptor. A motion is encoded by concatenating the flow orientation histogram from several frames. We utilize simple histogram matching to classify the motion sequences. Attempted experiments show the feasibility of our method for hand motion localization and classification.

In this paper, we proposed a fast multi-resolution motion estimation(MRME) algorithm. This algorithm exploits the half-pixel accuracy motion estimation(HPAME) for exact motion vectors in the baseband and block classification for the reduction of bit amounts and computational loads. Generally, as the motion vector in the baseband are used as initial motion vector in the high frequency subbands, it has crucial effect on quality of the motion compensated image. For this reason, we exploit HPAME in the motion estimation for the baseband. But HPAME requires additional bit and computational loads so that we use block classification for the selective motion estimation in the high frequency subbands to compensate these problems. In result, we could reduce the bit rate and computational load at the similar image quality with conventional MRME. The superiority of the proposed algorithm was confirmed by the computer simulation.
The purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive posture classification scheme considering the effects of external load and motion repetition as well as those of working posture. The scheme was developed based on a series of existing empirical studies dealing with postural classification scheme, effects of external load and motion repetition. Ranges of joint motions, external load and motion repetition were divided into the groups with the same degree of discomforts. Each group was assigned a numerical relative discomfort score of code on the basis of discomfort values for the neutral position of elbow flexion. The criteria for evaluating stress of working postures were proposed based on the four distinct action categories, in order to enable practitioners to apply appropriate corrective actions. The proposed scheme was compared with OWAS, RULA and REBA. The comparison revealed that while the proposed scheme and RULA showed similar results for the working postures with light external load and non-repetitive postures, the former overestimated postural load for postures with moderate or heavy external load and repetitive postures than the latter.
In this paper, we propose a method for robustly estimating camera motion using fuzzy classification from the correspondences between two images. We use a RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus) algorithm to obtain accurate camera motion estimates in the presence of outliers. The drawback of RANSAC is that its performance depends on a prior knowledge of the outlier ratio. To resolve this problem the proposed method classifies samples into three classes(good sample set, bad sample set and vague sample set) using fuzzy classification. It then improves classification accuracy omitting outliers by iteratively sampling in only good sample set. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is very effective for computing a homography.

In this paper, we propose a new approach for content-based video retrieval using non-parametric based motion classification in the shot-based video indexing structure. Our system proposed in this paper has supported the real-time video retrieval using spatio-temporal feature comparison by measuring the similarity between visual features and between motion features, respectively, after extracting representative frame and non-parametric motion information from shot-based video clips segmented by scene change detection method. The extraction of non-parametric based motion features, after the normalized motion vectors are created from an MPEG-compressed stream, is effectively fulfilled by discretizing each normalized motion vector into various angle bins, and by considering the mean, variance, and direction of motion vectors in these bins. To obtain visual feature in representative frame, we use the edge-based spatial descriptor. Experimental results show that our approach is superior to conventional methods with regard to the performance for video indexing and retrieval.
Simultaneous motion is essential in the activities of daily living (ADL). For motion intention recognition, surface electromyogram (sEMG) and corresponding motion label is necessary. However, this process is time-consuming and it may increase the burden of the user. Therefore, we propose a simultaneous motion recognition framework using data augmentation based on muscle activation model. The model consists of multiple point sources to be optimized while the number of point sources and their initial parameters are automatically determined. From the experimental results, it is shown that the framework has generated the data which are similar to the real one. This aspect is quantified with the following two metrics: structural similarity index measure (SSIM) and mean squared error (MSE). Furthermore, with k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) or support vector machine (SVM), the classification accuracy is also enhanced with the proposed framework. From these results, it can be concluded that the generalization property of the training data is enhanced and the classification accuracy is increased accordingly. We expect that this framework reduces the burden of the user from the excessive and time-consuming data acquisition.

Conventional classification method uses a single classifier based on shape or motion feature. However this method exhibits a weakness if naively used since the classification performance is highly sensitive to the accuracy of moving region to be detected. The detection accuracy, in turn, depends on the condition of the image background. In this paper, we propose to resolve the drawback and thus strengthen the classification reliability by employing a Bayesian decision fusion and by optimally combining the decisions of three classifiers. The first classifier is based on shape information obtained from Fourier descriptors while the second is based on the shape information obtained from image gradients. The third classifier uses motion information. Our experimental results on the classification Performance of human and vehicle with a static camera in various directions confirm a significant improvement and indicate the superiority of the proposed decision fusion method compared to the conventional Majority Voting and Weight Average Score approaches.

In this paper, we propose the novel video retrieval algorithm using non-parametric based motion classification in the shot-based video indexing structure. The proposed system firstly gets the key frame and motion information from each shot segmented by scene change detection method, and then extracts visual features and non-parametric based motion information from them. Finally, we construct real-time retrieval system supporting similarity comparison of these spatio-temporal features. After the normalized motion vector fields is created from MPEG compressed stream, the extraction of non-parametric based motion feature is effectively achieved by discretizing each normalized motion vectors into various angle bins, and considering a mean, a variance, and a direction of these bins. We use the edge-based spatial descriptor to extract the visual feature in key frames. Experimental evidence shows that our algorithm outperforms other video retrieval methods for image indexing and retrieval. To index the feature vectors, we use R*-tree structures.
