This paper proposes a fast motion estimation using an adaptive search region and a new three step search. The proposed method improved in the quality of motion compensation image as $0.43dB{\sim}2.19dB$, according as it predict motion of current block from motion vector of neigher blocks, and adaptively set up search region using predicted motion information. We show that the proposed method applied a new three step search pattern is able to fast motion estimation, according as it reduce computational complexity per blocks as $1.3%{\sim}1.9%$ than conventional method.

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) suffers from high computational complexity due to its quad-tree structure in motion estimation (ME). This paper exposes an adaptive search range decision algorithm for accelerating HEVC integer-pel ME on GPU which estimates the optimal search range (SR) using a MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) estimator. There are three main contributions; First, we define the motion feature as the standard deviation of motion vector difference values in a CTU. Second, a MAP estimator is proposed, which theoretically estimates the motion feature of the current CTU using the motion feature of a temporally adjacent CTU and its SR without any data dependency. Thus, the SR for the current CTU is parallelly determined. Finally, the values of the prior distribution and the likelihood for each discretized motion feature are computed in advance and stored at a look-up table to further save the computational complexity. Experimental results show in conventional HEVC test sequences that the proposed algorithm can achieves high average time reductions without any subjective quality loss as well as with little BD-bitrate increase.
In this paper, we proposed a lwo bit rate subband coding with adaptive vector quantization using the correlation between motion vector and block energy in subband. In this method, the difference between the input signal and the motion compensated interframe prediction signal is decomposed into several narrow bands using quadrature mirror filter (QMF) structure. The subband signals are then quantized by adaptive vector quantizers. In the codebook generating process, each classified region closer to the block value in the same region after the classification of region by the magnitude of motion vector and the variance values of subband block. Because codebook is genrated considering energy distribution of each region classified by motion vector and variance of subband block, this technique gives a very good visual quality at low bit rate coding.

This research presents an adaptive fast motion estimation (ME) computation on the stage of uneven multi-hexagon grid search (UMHGS) algorithm included in an unsymmetrical-cross multi-hexagon-grid search (UMHexagonS) in H.264 standard. The proposed adaptive method is based on statistical analysis and previously obtained motion vectors to reduce the computational complexity of ME. For this purpose, the algorithm is decomposed into three processes: skipping, terminating, and reducing search areas. Skipping and terminating are determined by the statistical analysis of the collected minimum SAD (sum of absolute difference) and the search area is constrained by the slope of previously obtained motion vectors. Simulation results show that 13%-23% of ME time can be reduced compared with UMHexagonS, while still maintaining a reasonable PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) and average bitrates.

Generally, moving images contain the various components in motions, which reange from a static object and background to a fast moving object. To extract the accurate motion parameters, we must consider the various motions. That requires a wide search egion in motion estimation. The wide search, however, causes a high computational complexity. If we have a few knowledge about the motion direction and magnitude before motion estimation, we can determine the search location and search window size using the already-known information about the motion. In this paper, we present a local adaptive motion estimation approach that predicts a block motion based on spatio-temporal neighborhood blocks and adaptively defines the search location and search window size. This paper presents a technique for reducing computational complexity, while having high accuracy in motion estimation. The proposed algorithm is introduced the forward and backward projection techniques. The search windeo size for a block is adaptively determined by previous motion vectors and prediction errors. Simulations show significant improvements in the qualities of the motion compensated images and in the reduction of the computational complexity.

This paper concerns on a non-rotating single-DOF beam-active magnetic bearing(AMB) system subject to arbitrary shaped base motion. In such a system, it is desirable to retain the beam within the predetermined air-gap under foundation excitation. Motivated form this, an adaptive acceleration feedforward control is proposed to reduce the base motion response without deteriorating other feedback control performances. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the acceleration feedforward control.
In this paper, a novel frame rate up conversion (FRUC) algorithm using adaptive extended bilateral motion estimation (AEBME) is proposed. Conventionally, extended bilateral motion estimation (EBME) conducts dual motion estimation (ME) processes on the same region, therefore involves high complexity. However, in this proposed scheme, a novel block type matching procedure is suggested to accelerate the ME procedure. We calculate the edge information using sobel mask, and the calculated edge information is used in block type matching procedure. Based on the block type matching, decision will be made whether to use EBME. Motion vector smoothing (MVS) is adopted to detect outliers and correct outliers in the motion vector field. Finally, overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) are adopted to interpolate the intermediate frame in which OBMC is employed adaptively based on frame motion activity. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm has outstanding performance and fast computation comparing with EBME.

In this research we propose the design of the Order Statistic-Adaptive Weighted Average Hybrid(OS-AWAH) filter which can suppress noise from the corrupted image sequence effectively while preserving the image structure. The proposed filter combines the desirable properties of the order static based spatial filter which can preserve the image structure while reducing noise and the adaptive weighted average based temporal filter which can adapt the filtering weights according to the amount of motion without motion estimation. Performance characteristics of the OS-AWAH filter in noisy sequences containing moving step edges are investigated throuth computer simulations and compared with the median based filters such as 3-D WM(weighted median) filter, MMF (multistage median filter), ADCWM(adaptive directional center weighted median) filter. The visual evaluations are also carried out by applyin gthe filters to the real images. The statistical analysis and experimental reslts show that the OS-AWAH filter is effective in preserving image structures while suppressing noise effectively without motion compensation preprocessing.

This paper presents a Modified Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (MACSMC) system for the longitudinal motion control of the Fully-Submerged Hydrofoil Craft (FSHC) in the presence of time varying disturbance and uncertain perturbations. The nonlinear disturbance observer is designed with less conservatism that only boundedness of the derivative of the disturbance is required. Then, a complementary sliding mode control system combined with adaptive law is designed to reduce the bound of stabilization error with fast convergence. In particularly, the modified complementary sliding mode surface which contains the estimation of the disturbance can reduce the switching gain and retain the normal performance of the system. Moreover, a hyperbolic tangent function contained in the control law is utilized to attenuate the chattering of the actuator. The global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated utilizing the Lyapunov stability theory. Ultimately, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Depending on the characteristics of each 3D-DCT block, images can be classified into three types: images with motion and textures, images with high textures and little motion, images with little textures and little motion. In this paper, we propose an adaptive watermarking method using these characteristics of each 3D-DCT block. and the human visual system. The proposed method classifies patterns of 3D-DCT blocks based on the motion and texture information, and classifies the image type according to the ratio of these patterns. The watermark is inserted proportional to the 3D-DCT coefficients by using pattern adaptive JND, which. makes the proposed watermarking robust by inserting watermarks in as many blocks as possible. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better performance in terms of invisibility and robustness than the previous method.
