  • Purpose: To develop a two-dimensional (2D) image-based respiratory motion correction technique for free-breathing coronary magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Materials and Methods: The proposed respiratory navigator obtained aliased a 2D sagittal image from under-sampled k-space data and utilized motion correlation between the aliased images. The proposed navigator was incorporated into the conventional coronary MRA sequence including the diaphragm navigator and tested in three healthy subjects. Results: The delineation of major coronary arteries was significantly improved using the proposed 2D motion correction (S/I and A/P) compared to one-dimensional (S/I) correction using the conventional diaphragm navigator. Conclusion: The 2D image-based respiratory navigator was proposed for free-breathing coronary angiography and showed the potential for improving respiratory motion correction compared to the conventional 1D correction.

  • A simultaneous measurement system that can analyze the flow-structure interactions(FSI) has been constructed and analyses on the flow field and the motion field of a floating cylinder was made. The three-dimensional vector fields around the cylinder are measured by 3D-PTV technique while the motion of the cylinder forced by the flow field is measured simultaneously with a newly developed motion tracking algorithm(bidirectional tracking algorithm). The cylinder is pendant in the working fluid of a water channel and the surface of the working fluid is forced sinusoidal to make the cylinder bounced. The interaction between the flow fields and the cylinder motion is examined quantitatively.

  • In this paper, A Fast Multi-level Successive Elimination Algorithm (FMSEA) is presented for block matching motion estimation in video coding. Motion estimation accuracy of FMSEA is equal to that of Multilevel Successive Elimination Algorithm(MSEA). FMSEA can reduce the computations for motion estimation of MSEA by using partial distortion elimination technique. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was verified by experimental results.

  • In the present work, investigations by high frequency resonance technique for diagnosis of defect frequencies of linear motion unit are reported. Raw vibration signature of the moving parts at different speeds of operation has been demodulated. Envelope detected spectrum is analyzed to evaluate various defect frequencies and their energy levels. Experimentally evaluated frequencies are compared with theoretically determined defect frequencies. These frequency values and their energy levels are used to monitor intrinsic condition of linear motion unit as well as to establish severity of existing/developed defects on the LM guide and inside the LM block. Relative comparisons of linear motion units of the same type are made at various operating speeds under identical conditions of operation on the basis of identified defect frequencies and severity of defects.

  • This paper presents a recoil and counter recoil(R&CR) motion measurement method using linear variable differential transformers(LVDT). The output of a LVDT is obtained from the differential voltage of the 2nd transformers. As a sensor core is attached at the motion body, the output is directly proportional to the core motion. Displacement, velocity and acceleration are measure from the core length. With a comparison between the measurement result and the known value which is obtained by the precision steel tape, the accuracy and the usefulness of the proposed scheme is validated.

  • In this paper, we proposed a lwo bit rate subband coding with adaptive vector quantization using the correlation between motion vector and block energy in subband. In this method, the difference between the input signal and the motion compensated interframe prediction signal is decomposed into several narrow bands using quadrature mirror filter (QMF) structure. The subband signals are then quantized by adaptive vector quantizers. In the codebook generating process, each classified region closer to the block value in the same region after the classification of region by the magnitude of motion vector and the variance values of subband block. Because codebook is genrated considering energy distribution of each region classified by motion vector and variance of subband block, this technique gives a very good visual quality at low bit rate coding.

  • An unstructured overset mesh method has been developed for the simulation of unsteady viscous flow fields around multiple bodies in relative motion. For this purpose, a robust and fast search technique is proposed for both triangle and high-aspect ratio quadrilateral cell elements. The interpolation boundary is defined for data communication between grid systems and an interpolation method is suggested for viscous and inviscid cell elements. This method has been applied to calculate the flow fields around 2-D airfoils involving relative motion. Validations were made by comparing the predicted results with those of experiments or other numerical results. It was demonstrated that the present method is efficient and robust for the prediction of unsteady time-accurate flow fields involving multiple bodies in relative motion.

  • Earth's polar motion has been known for more than one century, and it has been monitored by astrometric observation and recently by space geodetic technique. The Chandler and the annual wobbles are two dominant parts of Earth's polar motion. But according to our recent analysis on a relevant and accurate dataset, another polar motion component, of which period is about 500 days, exists with an amplitude of 20 milliarcseconds in average. This third largest component of polar motion should be caused by resonance of unidentified oscillating mode of Earth, possibly Earth's inner core wobble.

  • This paper is concerned on kinematic analysis and simulation of an automatic feeding mechanism subjected by the motion of a curvilinear inverse can. The curvilinear cam is rotated by positioning a translating roller and the automatic feeding mechanism is moved to the sliding position by the motion of a campin fixed on the curvilinear cam. The curvilinear cam consists of two arcs of circles and two straight lines. The modular approach is used for the kinematic analysis of the feeding mechanism. As the first part of the paper for the motion simulation of the cam-feeding system, this paper discusses the algorithm to simulate the motion of the cam-feeding mechanism. The second part of the paper presents the state-of-art for the graphics-oriented CAD technique,
