  • This paper presents the investigation of the stochastic responses of seismically isolated bridges subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motions including incoherence, wave-passage and site-response effects. The incoherence effect is examined by considering Harichandran and Vanmarcke coherency model. The effect of the wave-passage is dealt with various wave velocities in the response analysis. Homogeneous firm, medium and soft soil conditions are selected for considering the site-response effect where the bridge supports are constructed. The ground motion is described by filtered white noise and applied to each support points. For seismic isolation of the bridge, single and double concave friction pendulum bearings are used. Due to presence of friction on the concave surfaces of the isolation systems, the equation of motion of is non-linear. The non-linear equation of motion is solved by using equivalent linearization technique of non-linear stochastic analyses. Solutions obtained from the stochastic analyses of non-isolated and isolated bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions compared with each other for the special cases of the ground motion model. It is concluded that friction pendulum systems having single and double concave surfaces have important effects on the stochastic responses of bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions.

  • This paper deals with an experimental technique for the measurement of dynamic stability derivatives in the roll motion of aircraft. Experimental aquisition method for aircraft's dynamic stability derivatives is conducted on the oscillation condition of aircraft model in the subsonic wind tunnel. The oscillation of aircraft model was forced by the oscillation apparatus. The forced oscillation technique is the method getting data from the internal balance inserted into the aircraft model during oscillating it. Dynamic stability derivatives of rolling motion were calculated by data reduction from the measurements of rolling moment, frequency and amplitude of aircraft model due to forced oscillation under wind conditions. Results of experiment is obtained similar one with those of roll dynamic stability derivatives measured in other institutes.

  • In the paper, a robot control technique by employing Biomimetics is described. Rhythmic movements of the diving beetle's leg were analyzed and the formulated equations on the motion were drawn by applying Fourier least mean square fitting method. Simple control parameters were defined by comparing the observed locomotion through a motion capture system and reproduced motions according to changes in the values in the equation. Subsequently, the correlation of each parameter was discovered and expressed in a parameter space. Apparently, it was confirmed that various bio-mimicking motions can simply be generated for controlling the robot. Additionally, robot designing based on adopting structural advantages which the living organism possess have been briefly introduced. The proposed bio-mimicking motion generating technique was observed to be applicable to robot system developments under various environmental conditions.

  • There are trapping and stripping methods as the technique to remove the dither motion from RLG(Ring Laser Gyro) output. V/F converter output of angular sensor to measure the dither motion is used in stripping method. But bias and scale factor error is always included in V/F converter output and is a critical limiting factor for the wide application of stripping method to RLG. Therefore there have been many researches to solve this problem. The method to accurately estimate the bias and scale factor error of V/F converter using measurements of the angular sensor acquired at data sampling rate of INS is presented in this paper. To this end, stripping technique based on model of dither motion is newly applied.

  • The Jacobian matrix of the equations of motion of a system using velocity transformation technique is derived via variation methods to apply the implicit integration algorithm, DASSL. The concept of generalized coordinate partitioning is used to parameterize the constraint set with independent generalized coordinates. DASSL is applied to determine independent generalized coordinates and velocities. Dependent generalized coordinates, velocities, accelerations and Lagrange multipliers are explicitly retained in the formulation to satisfy all of the governing kinematic and dynamic equations. The derived Jacobian matrix of a system is proved to be valid and accurate both analytically and through solution of numerical examples.

  • In this paper, a disturbance feedforward compensator design technique is proposed for an active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion for attenuating disturbance responses. In the consideration of the requirements on the model accuracy in the model based compensator designs, an experimental feedforward compensator design based on adaptive estimation by means of the Multiple Filtered-x least mean square(MFXLMS) algorithm is proposed. The performance and the effectiveness of the proposed technique will be presented in the succeeding paper in which the proposed technique is applied to a 2-DOF active magnetic bearing system subject to base motion.

  • The spray characteristics of a high pressure 6-hole injector were examined in a single cylinder optical direct injection spark ignition (DISI) engine. The effects of injection timing, in-cylinder charge motion, fuel injection pressure and coolant temperature were investigated using the 2-dimensional Mie scattering technique. It was confirmed that the in-cylinder charge motion played a major role in the fuel spray distribution during the induction stroke while the propagation of fuel spray was restrained during the compression stroke by the increasing pressure and the upward moving piston. In additions, it was confirmed that the liquid fuel droplets existing at the sprays edges were vaporized by the increase of the coolant temperature.

  • This paper describes a monitoring system for fish farm formation effect based on personal computer by using an image processing technique. This method is based on image processing technique incorporating concept of window and threshold processing to track the target object and to distinguish it from background. The image processing program runs in the veal time so that all program modules are able to process multi-task. The effectiveness is evaluated through the comparative study on the motion of lantern net for the scallop culturing by wave action in an experimental wave tank.

  • We propose a novel image segmentation and segment-based stereo matching technique using color, depth, and motion information. Proposed technique firstly splits reference images into foreground region or background region using depth information from depth camera. Then each region is segmented into small segments with color information. Moreover, extracted segments in current frame are tracked in the next frame in order to maintain depth consistency between frames. The initial depth from the depth camera is also used to set the depth search range for stereo matching. Proposed segment-based stereo matching technique was compared with conventional one without foreground and background separation and other conventional one without motion tracking of segments. Simulation results showed that the improvement of segment extraction and depth estimation consistencies by proposed technique compared to conventional ones especially at the static background region.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a non-photorealistic rendering technique that is efficient in single images and moving images. In case of single images, they could be processed in a real-time base by realizing flow-based DoG filter and bilateral filter, which have been frequently used in the single image NPR technique recently, in the CUDA environment. In case of moving images, the investigator presented not the existing method of NPR moving images which generating images by applying the single image NPR technique to every frame, but the method of using the single image NPR technique in the first frame and stylizing it, and then of using the motion vector-based pixel mapping in the second frame on and copying the bright values of pixels that move on the frame into the location of next frame's motion vector, thus reducing unnecessary volume of calculation and maintaining the consistency between frames. In this study, the performance of this method was proved via an experiment.
