This study was conducted to improve the classification schemes of KDC in the fields of motion picture materials. Classification schemes of the KDC, DDC and LCC for motion picture materials were analyzed and compared. From the results, KDC was found to be the least suitable classification system to handle motion picture materials because it had very poorly detailed subdivisions of items and incomplete subsidiary tables to develop some subject items to represent various aspects of motion picture fields. Some suggestions to cover the deficiencies of KDC for motion picture fields were made in terms of 9 subdivisions and 53 sub-items. Particularly, new subdivisions of ‘types of genre', ’motion picture festival', 'worldwide motion pictures' and ’people related to motion pictures' were added.
Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of multi view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, improved prediction structure and motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. And the proposed motion estimation method uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of modified diamond search pattern, progressive diamond search pattern and modified raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed prediction structure and motion estimation method over JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) reference model using hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI and TZ search method can be up to 40~70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.

The purpose of this paper is to promote the physics study of high school students with computer. A computer simulation for falling motion is used to provide the students a chance to study by themselves viewing the concrete motion pictures of computer. By this simulation program, the students can observe various movements of a falling body with calculated distance according to falling time.

Sine digital signal processing for motion pictures requires huge amount of data computation to store, manipulate and transmit, more effective data compression is necessary. Therefore, the ITU-T recommended H.26x as data compression standards for digital motion pictures. The data compression method that eliminates time redundancies by motion estimation using relationship between picture frames has been widely used. Most video conding systems employ block matching algorithm for the motion estimation and compensation, and the algorithm is based on the minimun value of cast functions. Therefore, fast search algorithm rather than full search algorithm is more effective in real time low data rates encodings such as H.26x. In this paper, motion estimation employing the Nearest-Neighbors algorithm is designed to reduce search time using FPGA, coded in VHDL, and simulated and verified using Xilink Foundation.
In this paper, we implement a real time speaker close-up system using lip motion information from input images having some people. After detecting a speaker from input moving pictures through one color CCD camera, the other camera closes up the speaker by using lip motion information. The implemented system detects a face and lip area of each person by means of a facial color and a morphological information, and then finds out a speaker by using lip area variation. A PTZ(Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera is used in order to close up the detected speaker and it is controlled by RS-232C serial port. Consequently, we can exactly detect a speaker in input moving pictures including more than three people.

For the object-based video compression at very low bit rate, vieo segmentation is an essential part. In this paper, we propose a temporal video segmentation algorithms for motion pictures which is based on blocks. The algorithm is composed of three steps: (1) the change-detection, (2) the block merging, and (3) the block segmentation. The first step separates the change-detected region from background. Here, a new method for removing the uncovered region without motion estimation is presented. The second step, which is further divided into three substeps, estimates motions for the change-detected region and merges blocks with similar motions. The merging conditions for each substep as criteria are also given. The final step, the block segmentation, segments the boundary block that is excluded from the second step on a pixel basis. After describing our algorithm in detail, several experimental results along the processing order are shown step by step. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm removes the uncovered region effectively and produced objects that are segmented well.
In this paper we present a simple, efficient method for detecting the blurry photographs. Recently many digital cameras are equipped with various auto-focusing functions to help users take well-focused pictures as easily as possible. In addition, motion compensation devices are able to compensate motion causing blurriness in the images. However, digital pictures can be degraded by limited contrast, inappropriate exposure, imperfection of auto-focusing or motion compensating devices, unskillfulness of the photographers, and so on. In order to decide whether to process the images or not, or whether to delete them or not, reliable measure of image degradation to detect blurry images from sharp ones is needed. This paper presents a blurriness/sharpness measure, and demonstrates its feasibility by using extensive experiments. This method is fast, easy to implement and accurate. Regardless of the detection accuracy, the proposed measure in this paper is not demanding in computation time. Needless to say, this measure can be used for various imaging applications including auto-focusing and astigmatism correction.

Many people are exposed to accidents by vehicles or sports. The most frequent injuries by these accidents is concerned with a knee joint. The three-dimensional surface model of a knee is needed for dynamic analysis of knee motion and knee reconstruction. three-dimensional motion data of a knee joint were obtained using X-ray and precise magnetic sensors. The surface data of a femur and a tibia were obtained using cross-sectional pictures by CT. The three-dimensional surface models of a femur and a tibia were made by the method of optimal triangular patch. Using obtained motion data, we simulated the motion of three-dimensional knee joint model.
Windows provides Directshow for efficient multimedia streaming processings such as multimedia capture, storage, display and etc. Presently, many motion picture codecs and audio codecs are made to be used in Directshow framework and Windows also supports many codecs (MPEG4, H,263, WMV, WMA, ASF, etc.) in addition to a lot of useful tools for multimedia streaming processing. Therefore, Directshow can be effectively utilized for developing windows-based multimedia streaming applications such as visual monitoring systems which needs to store real-time video data for later retrieval. In this paper, we present our efforts for developing a Directshow Filter System supporting storage of motion pictures in various motion picture codecs. Our Directshow Filter system also provides an additional functionality of motion detection.
