Today, the elderly is increasing gradually in the Republic of Korea society and this problem will be more serious in the near future. Therefore, engineering support for aged people is required. We are establishing a new field of healthcare engineering for elderly people and aiming to support for aged people and disabled people using adaptive control and instrument technology. In this paper, the goal is to implement the shared control of a robot mobility aid for the elderly. As using this type of assistive technology to be useful by its intended user community, it supports elderly people and handicapped people to live independently in their private homes. The interface transforms the force applied by the user into the robot's motion. Devices like buttons, joysticks, and levers already exist for relaying user input; however, they require hand displacement that would loosen or otherwise release the user's hold. Such interfaces make operation very difficult and potentially unsafe. Therefore, we propose a shared control system. It's safe more than joysticks and buttons. The shared control is a means of registering the user's intention through physical interaction. It's an important component in the development of robotic elderly assistant. The concept of shared control describes a system which is two or more independent control systems. We are using that the three component blocks consist of pressure sensor (flexible force sensor), circuit of measurement and transfer function. Experimental trials of this paper have been tested at the indoor environment. The robot is able to know the user intended direction through haptic device were logged along with the robot's force sensor.

During the cold wire-drawing process, the diameter of a wire is reduced and the length of the wire is increased as the wire passes through the die. The pressure and sliding motion at the interface between the wire and die cause elastic recovery of the workpiece and friction and wear on the die. In addition, wire deformation and frictional heating raise the temperature of the wire and die, resulting in difficulty in manufacturing the drawn products according to a designated inner diameter of the die, deviating from the designated dimension or the inner diameter of the die. In this study, considering the die temperature distribution, the effects of dimensional changes of the drawn products were analyzed quantitatively; these changes are caused by the elastic deformation of the die, the elastic recovery of the workpiece, and the thermal deformation of both the die and the workpiece. It was confirmed that the elastic recovery of the workpiece influenced these changes the most. The initial dies considering these factors could avoid deviation from the designated dimension, and the desired drawn products were obtained by using the designed initial drawing dies.

ISO 14649 (data model for STEP-NC) is a new interface scheme or language for CAD-CAM-CNC chain under established by ISO TC184 SCI. Up to this point, the new language is mainly made for milling and turning, and other processes such as EDM will be completed in the future. Upon completion, it will be used as the international standard language for e-manufacturing paradigm by replacing the old machine-level language, so called M&G code used since 1950's. With the rich information contents included in the new language, various intelligent functions can be made by the CNC as the CNC knows what-to-make and how-to-make. In particular, On-Machine Inspection required for quality assurance in the machine level, can be done based on the information of featurebased tolerance graph. Previously, On-Machine inspection has been investigated mainly for milling operation, and only a few researches were made for turning operation without addressing the data model. In this thesis, we present a feature-based on-machine inspection process by the 4 Tasks: 1) proposing a new schema for STEP-NC data model, 2) converting the conventional tolerance scheme into that of STEP-NC, 3) modifying the tolerance graph such that the tolerance can be effectively measured by the touch probe on the machine, and 4) generating collision-free tool path for actual measurement. Task 1 is required for the incorporation of the presented method in the ISO 14649, whose current version does not much include the detailed schema for tolerance. Based on the presented schema, the tolerance represented in the conventional drafting can be changed to that of STEP-NC (Task 2). A special emphasis was given to Task 3 to make the represented tolerance accurately measurable by the touch probe on the machine even if the part setup is changed. Finally, Task 4 is converting the result of Task into the motion of touch probe. The developed schema and algorithms were illustrated by several examples including that of ISO 14649 Part 12.

In this study, we derived theoretical equations for the zigzag movement of a leading vehicle, which is the most frequent behavior in train accidents, by using a simplified spring-mass model for the rolling stock. In order to solve the equations of motion, we applied the Runge-Kutta method, which is the typical numerical analysis method used for differential equations. Furthermore, the lateral displacement of the wheel-set at the wheel-rail interface was estimated using kinetic energy. In order to verify the derived equations, we compared the theoretical and simulated results under various collision conditions. The maximum relative deviations of the lateral displacements were 0.8 [%] ~ 4.7 [%] in light collisions and 0.6 [%] ~ 5.1 [%] under derailment conditions. When an accident is simulated, these theoretical equations can be used to predict the overall behavior and obtain the offset of the body-to-body link as the initial perturbation.

Dynamic aeroelastic behavior of structurally nonlinear Joined Wings is presented. Three configurations, two characterized by a different location of the joint and one presenting a direct connection between the two wings (SensorCraft-like layout) are investigated. The snap-divergence is studied from a dynamic perspective in order to assess the real response of the configuration. The investigations also focus on the flutter occurrence (critical state) and postcritical phenomena. Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCOs) are observed, possibly followed by a loss of periodicity of the solution as speed is further increased. In some cases, it is also possible to ascertain the presence of period doubling (flip-) bifurcations. Differences between flutter (Hopf's bifurcation) speed evaluated with linear and nonlinear analyses are discussed in depth in order to understand if a linear (and thus computationally less intense) representation provides an acceptable estimate of the instability properties. Both frequency- and time-domain approaches are compared. Moreover, aerodynamic solvers based on the potential flow are critically examined. In particular, it is assessed in what measure more sophisticated aerodynamic and interface models impact the aeroelastic predictions. When the use of the tools gives different results, a physical interpretation of the leading mechanism generating the mismatch is provided. In particular, for PrandtlPlane-like configurations the aeroelastic response is very sensitive to the wake's shape. As a consequence, it is suggested that a more sophisticate modeling of the wake positively impacts the reliability of aerodynamic and aeroelastic analysis. For SensorCraft-like configurations some LCOs are characterized by a non-synchronous motion of the inner and outer portion of the lower wing: the wing's tip exhibits a small oscillation during the descending or ascending phase, whereas the mid-span station describes a sinusoidal-like trajectory in the time-domain.
Purpose: To identify user requirements for electronic nursing record (ENR) systems so as to ensure system usability. Methods: A mixed methods approach were applied in three steps : (i) task and workflow analysis with literature review of nursing documentation, (ii) literature reviews of system usability, and (iii) Use Case idenfication and consensus-based validation. We analyzed the nursing activity logs collected from a time-motion investigation of six hospitals. The Use Cases were validated by eight clinical experts from different hospitals and two experts from academia in a sequential Delphi survey. Consensus was achieved for the significance score and agreement among the panel. Results: Eight task groups and patterns of task flow were observed, which were translated into nine Use Cases. The specification of Use Cases was derived from principles, guidelines, and recommendations on nursing documentation and electronic health record systems, which was organized into three requirements of each Use Case: functionality, information, and design characteristics. Each Use Case achieved an agreement of 50~70%, and significance scores of 4 or 5 on a 5-point Likert scale. Conclusion: The nine Use Case identified were considered to be important and adequate in terms of both clinical and informatics contexts.

Friction energy dissipative devices have been increasingly implemented as structural seismic damage protecting systems due to their excellent seismic energy dissipating capacity and high stiffness. This study develops rotational friction energy dissipative devices and verifies experimentally their cyclic response. Based on the understanding of the differences between the traditional linear-motion friction behavior and the rotational friction behavior, the configuration of the frictional surface was determined by investigating the characteristics of the micro-friction behavior. The friction surface suggested in this paper consists of brake-lining pads and stainless steel sheets and is normally stressed by high-strength bolts. Based upon these frictional characteristics of the selected interface, the rotational friction energy dissipative devices were developed. Bolt torque-bearing force tests, rotational friction tests of the suggested friction interfaces were carried out to identify their frictional behavior. Test results show that the bearing force is almost linearly proportional to the applied bolt torque and presents stable cyclic response regardless of the experimental parameters selected this testing program. Finally, cyclic tests of the rotational friction energy dissipative devices were performed to find out their structural characteristics and to confirm their stable cyclic response. The developed friction energy dissipative devices present very stable cyclic response and meet the requirements for displacement-dependent energy dissipative devices prescribed in ASCE/SEI 7-10.

In this study, a flexible multi-body dynamic simulation model of a knuckle boom crane is developed to evaluate the stress of spindle and rack gears under dynamic working conditions. It is difficult to predict potential critical damage to a knuckle boom crane if only the static condition is considered during the development process. To solve this issue, a severe working scenario (high speed with heavy load) was simulated as a boundary condition for testing the integrity of the dynamic simulation model. The crane gear model is defined as a flexible body so contact analysis was performed. The functional motion of a knuckle boom crane is generated by applying forces at each end of the rack gear, which was converted from hydraulic pressure measured for the experiment. The bending and contact stress of gears are theoretically calculated to validate the simulation model. In the simulation, the maximum stress of spindle and rack gears are observed when the crane abruptly stops. Peak impact force is produced at the contact interface between pinion and rack gears due to the inertia force of the boom. However, the maximum stress (bending/contact) of spindle and rack are under the yield stress, which is safe from damage. By using the developed simulation model, the experiment process is expected to be minimized.

Reaction Wheel Assembly (RWA) is one of the major disturbance sources that have influence upon the Line of Sight (LOS) of payload. A micro-vibration induced by RWA is propagated through the satellite structure and decrease the LOS stability performance of payload. This effect shall be analyzed through the jitter analysis. If a requirement or specification of payload jitter level is found to be not satisfied according to the jitter analysis campaign, some modification or redesign should be done on the satellite structure or a couple of isolator should be attached on the RWA interface in order to reduce the transmitted vibration level of RWA. The purpose of ???RWA isolator test? is to roughly evaluate the performance of vibration suppression level with a passive RWA isolator made of rubber. For this test, actual RWA is used as a vibration source and a couple of cube-shaped rubber mount designed for satellite is used as a passive isolator. There may be several considerations in order to accommodate RWA isolator to spacecraft such as not only vibration reduction performance but also thermal conduction problem, mechanical size, RWA alignment problem, etc. But in this report the feasibility of RWA isolator is analyzed only in a vibration suppression point of view. As a result, high frequency vibration of RWA above 50Hz is perfectly attenuated with isolators, however, first harmonic components below 50Hz became larger due to the additional low frequency resonance modes of roll, pitch, yaw rigid body motion of RWA+bracket.
While increasing demand of the service for the disabled and the elderly people, assistive technologies have been developed rapidly. The natural signal of human such as voice or gesture has been applied to the system for assisting the disabled and the elderly people. As an example of such kind of human robot interface, the Soft Remote Control System has been developed by HWRS-ERC in $KAIST^[1]$. This system is a vision-based hand gesture recognition system for controlling home appliances such as television, lamp and curtain. One of the most important technologies of the system is the hand gesture recognition algorithm. The frequently occurred problems which lower the recognition rate of hand gesture are inter-person variation and intra-person variation. Intra-person variation can be handled by inducing fuzzy concept. In this paper, we propose multivariate fuzzy decision tree(MFDT) learning and classification algorithm for hand motion recognition. To recognize hand gesture of a new user, the most proper recognition model among several well trained models is selected using model selection algorithm and incrementally adapted to the user's hand gesture. For the general performance of MFDT as a classifier, we show classification rate using the benchmark data of the UCI repository. For the performance of hand gesture recognition, we tested using hand gesture data which is collected from 10 people for 15 days. The experimental results show that the classification and user adaptation performance of proposed algorithm is better than general fuzzy decision tree.
