  • The 3D animation these days is confronted with a situation that should develop new contents fit for those circumstances of media in which new platforms such as smart phones, tablet PCs, and smart TVs, etc. are in a rapid change and establish media strategies. Attempts are made of developing methods to diversify content type coping with new smart media characteristics including smart phones, tablet PCs, and smart TVs, etc., with materials of the same story and character, and developing animation video contents based on new media technology. This study made avatas utilizing iClone, avata 3D production technology and investigated 3D animation production methods through costume editing and motion editing.

  • Among visual communications methods through new media, the typography becomes a key role in information transfer areas with the development of motion graphics. Recently, the researches on stereoscopic image productions have been carried out actively to increase the reality of created images, and the various new approaches for the production of stereoscopic images have been investigated. However, it is obvious that the researches using motion typography have not been studied sufficiently. Thus in this study, the stereoscopic images for moving typography are suggested and produced by using three experimental studies -- the experiments using text movement, camera movement, and finally, editing and composition. In the experiments, from the stereoscopic motion typography produced by our proposed methods, the various visual effects have been obtained, and the visual communication with high reality has been achieved.

  • This paper propose a practical algorithm to reuse and expand the objects. This algorithm is based on the Motion Path Modification rules. We focus on reusing of the existing motions for synthesizing new motions for the objects. Both the linear and the nonlinear curve-fitting algorithm are applied to modify an animation by keyframe interpolation and to make the motion appear realistic. We also proposes a framework of the scenario-based 3D image synthesizing system that allows common users, who envision a scenario in their minds, to realize it into segments of a cool animation. The framework is useful in building a 3D animation in game programming with a limited set of 3D objects.

  • In this paper, we introduce a technique to retarget human motion data to the humanoid body in a constrained environment. We assume that the given motion data includes detailed interactions such as holding the object by hand or avoiding obstacles. In addition, we assume that the humanoid joint structure is different from the human joint structure, and the shape of the surrounding environment is different from that at the time of the original motion. Under such a condition, it is also difficult to preserve the context of the interaction shown in the original motion data, if the retargeting technique that considers only the change of the body shape. Our approach is to separate the problem into two smaller problems and solve them independently. One is to retarget motion data to a new skeleton, and the other is to preserve the context of interactions. We first retarget the given human motion data to the target humanoid body ignoring the interaction with the environment. Then, we precisely deform the shape of the environmental model to match with the humanoid motion so that the original interaction is reproduced. Finally, we set spatial constraints between the humanoid body and the environmental model, and restore the environmental model to the original shape. To demonstrate the usefulness of our method, we conducted an experiment by using the Boston Dynamic's Atlas robot. We expected that out method can help the humanoid motion tracking problem in the future.

  • In this paper, we define a haptic rendering algorithm for a situation that has collision between static object and single object. We classified video scenes into four categories which can be easily seen in video sequence. The proposed algorithm can detect which frame is suitable for haptic rendering by detecting the change of direction using motion estimation and change of shape using object tracking. As a result, a total of 13 frames are extracted from the sample video and playing time of these frames were calculated. We confirmed that the haptic effect appears in expected playing time by adding the appropriate haptic generating waveform thtough the haptic editing program.

  • A new video inpainting algorithm is proposed for removing unwanted objects or error of sources from video data. In the first step, the block bundle is defined by the motion information of the video data to keep the temporal consistency. Next, the block bundles are arranged in the 3-dimensional graph that is constructed by the spatial and temporal correlation. Finally, we pose the inpainting problem in the form of a discrete global optimization and minimize the objective function to find the best temporal bundles for the grid points. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields visually pleasing video inpainting results even in a dynamic scene.
