Gradient moment nulling techniques require the introduction of an additional gradient on each axis for each order of motion correction to be applied. The additional gradients introduce new constraints on the sequence design and increase the demands on the gradient system. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate techniques for optimization of gradient echo gradient moment nulling sequences within the constraints of the gradient hardware. Flow compensated pulse sequences were designed and implemented on a clinical magnetic resonance imaging system. The design of the gradient moment nulling sequences requires the solution of a linear system of equations. A Mathematica package was developed that interactively solves the gradient moment nulling problem. The package allows the physicist to specify the desired order of motion compensation and the duration of the gradients in the sequence with different gradient envelopes. The gradient echo sequences with first, second, and third order motion compensation were implemented with minimum echo time. The sequences were optimized to take full advantage of the capabilities of the gradient hardware. The sequences were used to generate images of phantoms and human brains. The optimized sequences were found to have better motion compensation than comparable standard sequences.
Heave compensation is a vital part of various marine and offshore operations. It is used in various applications, including the transfer of cargo between two vessels in the open ocean, installation of topsides of an offshore structure, offshore drilling and for surveillance, reconnaissance and monitoring. These applications typically involve a load suspended from a hydraulically powered winch that is connected to a vessel that is undergoing dynamic motion in the ocean environment. The goal in these applications is to design a winch controller to keep the load at a regulated height by rejecting the net heave motion of the winch arising from ship motions at sea. In this study, we analyze and compare the performance of various control algorithms in stabilizing a suspended load while the vessel is subjected to changing sea conditions. The KCS container ship is chosen as the vessel undergoing dynamic motion in the ocean. The negative of the net heave motion at the winch is provided as a reference signal to track. Various control strategies like Proportional-Derivative (PD) Control, Model Predictive Control (MPC), Linear Quadratic Integral Control (LQI), and Sliding Mode Control (SMC) are implemented and tuned for effective heave compensation. The performance of the controllers is compared with respect to heave compensation, disturbance rejection and noise attenuation.

This paper presents a technique for motion compensation of ISAR(Inverse SAR) images for a moving target. If a simple fourier transform is employed to obtain ISAR image for a moving target, the image is usually blurred. These images blurring problem can be solved with the time-frequency transform. In this paper, motion compensation algorithms of ISAR image such as STFT(Short Time Fourier Transform), GWT(Gabor Wavelet Transform) are described. In order to show the performances of each algorithm, we use scattering wave of the ideal point scatterers and simulated MIG-25 to obtain motion compensated ISAR image, and display the resolution of STFT and GWT ISAR image.
Due to the limitations of onshore wind power, the wind power industry is currently transitioning to offshore wind power. There has been active research on the development of a floating LiDAR system (FLS) that is easy to install at a low cost. The Carbon Trust published a commercialization roadmap for FLS in 2013, and an updated version was released in 2018, taking into account industry experience. The roadmap divides the development maturity of FLS into three stages: Stage 1 (prototype), Stage 2 (pre-commercialization), and Stage 3 (commercialization), each of which requires availability and accuracy assessment. The results must meet the requirements of the Key Performance Index (KPI) for each stage. Therefore, when developing FLS, the motion compensation algorithm of the FLS is essential because the LiDAR can produce incorrect measurements of wind speed and direction due to the six degrees of freedom in motion. In this study, we implemented the FLS motion compensation algorithm developed by Nassif, F.B. et al. and validated it using data provided by Fraunhofer. In conclusion, the results showed that the determination coefficients of wind speed and wind direction were improved compared to those obtained from the met mast.
Notion Compensation(MC) technique using Sub-Band Coding with the hierarchical structure is efficient to estimate real motion. In the hierarchical pyramid method, low-band MC pyramid method is popular, where the upper layer estimate the glover motion and next lower layer estimate the local motion. The low-band MC pyramid scheme has two problems. First, because the quantization errors at lower layer are accumulated when using coding and quantizing, it is impossible to search the exact Motion Vector(MV) Second, because of the top-down search problem in the hierarchical structure, MV mismatch in upper layer causes serious MV in lower layer So. we propose new hierarchical MC pyramid method based on edge classification. In this Paper, we show that the performance of proposed Pass-band motion compensation pyramid technique is better than low-band motion compensation pyramid. Also, in the pyramid motion estimation, we propose initial MV estimation scheme based on the edge-pattern classification. As a result, we find that PSNR was increased.

This paper proposes an efficient motion compensation algorithm for video sequences with brightness variations. In the proposed algorithm, the brightness variation parameters are estimated and local motions are compensated. To detect the frame with large brightness variations, we employ the frame classification based on the cross entropy between histograms of two successive frames, which can reduce the computational redundancy. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields a higher peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) than that of the conventional methods, with a low computational load, when the video scene contains large brightness changes.

H.264 video coding standard is widely used due to the high compression rate and quality. The motion compensation is the most time-consuming and complex unit in the H.264 decoder. The performance of the motion compensation is determined by the calculation of pixel interpolation and management of the reference pixels. The reference pixels read from external memory using efficient memory management for data reuse is necessary along with the high performance interpolators. We propose the architecture of a motion compensation unit for H.264 decoders. It is composed of 2-dimensional circular register files, a motion vector predictor and high performance interpolators with low complexity. The 2-dimensional circular register files reuse reference pixel data as much as possible, and feed reference pixel data to interpolators without any latency and complex logic circuits. We design a motion compensation unit and a intra-prediction unit and integrate them into a prediction unit and verify the operation and the performance.
In this paper, a novel frame rate up conversion (FRUC) algorithm using adaptive extended bilateral motion estimation (AEBME) is proposed. Conventionally, extended bilateral motion estimation (EBME) conducts dual motion estimation (ME) processes on the same region, therefore involves high complexity. However, in this proposed scheme, a novel block type matching procedure is suggested to accelerate the ME procedure. We calculate the edge information using sobel mask, and the calculated edge information is used in block type matching procedure. Based on the block type matching, decision will be made whether to use EBME. Motion vector smoothing (MVS) is adopted to detect outliers and correct outliers in the motion vector field. Finally, overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) are adopted to interpolate the intermediate frame in which OBMC is employed adaptively based on frame motion activity. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm has outstanding performance and fast computation comparing with EBME.

DC motor is a representative electric motor commonly utilized in various motion control fields. However, DC motor-based motion control systems suffer from degradation of position precision due to nonlinear static friction. In order to enhance control precision, friction model-based compensators have been introduced in previous researches, where friction models are identified and counter inputs are added to control inputs for cancelling out the identified friction forces. In this paper, a static friction compensator is proposed without use of a friction model. The proposed compensation algorithm utilizes internal state manipulation to generate compensation pulses, and related parameters are easily tuned experimentally. The proposed friction compensator is applied to a DC motor-based motion control system, and results are presented in comparison with those without a friction compensator.
In the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, the motion error is the main phase error sources and the motion compensation is very important. The phase gradient autofocus (PGA) is a state of art technique for phase error correction of SAR. It exploits the redundancy of the phase-error information among range bins by selecting the strongest scatter for each range bin and synthesizes them. The motivation of this paper is based on the observation that the redundancy of phase error is also among the cross-range direction. Moreover, the proposed method applies the weighting function to better utilize the phase error information. The validity of the proposed scheme for PGA is tested with some numerical simulation.
