In our previous publication, the problem of particle deformation and coagulation at the nucleation stage in the presence of cross-linker was intensely studied by seeded batch dispersion polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA). In the present work, highly cross-linked, monodisperse PMMA particles were prepared under various reaction conditions by seeded semi-continuous process. Monodisperse, $6.5{\mu}m$-diameter PMMA particles containing up to 8 wt% of DVB or EGDMA were successfully made by seeded semi-continuous process and multi-semi-continuous addition process, respectively. Therefore, this study shows that seeded semi-continuous process is more effective and efficient to prepare highly cross-linked, monodisperse particles than non-seeded and seeded batch processes.

Monodisperse aerosols containing spherical particles of known size, shape and density are the most widely used to calibrate particle-size measuring instruments and to determine the effects of particle size on the sampling device. However, these tests are time-consuming because monodisperse aerosols with different particle sizes are generated and tested in a series of experiments. Polydisperse aerosols may be used to determine the calibration or to simulate equipment under controlled laboratory condition. (omitted)

The photocatalytic (PC) activity of anatase titania nanoparticles can be improved through codoping with transition metals and nitrogen. In addition, the PC activity can also be improved by creating monodisperse, mesoporous nanoparticles of titania. The question naturally arose as to whether combining these two characteristics would result in further improvement in the PC activity or not. Herein, we describe the synthesis and photocatalytic characteristics of codoped, monodisperse anatase titania. The transition metals tested in the polydisperse and the monodisperse forms were Mn, Co, Ni, and Cu. In each case, it was found that the monodisperse version had a higher PC activity compared to the corresponding polydisperse version.
Nearly monodisperse spherical silica particles, 200~300 nm in diameter, were produced via a dry route for the first time through a two-stage hydrolysis of $SiCl_4$ vapor. In the first stage, the $SiCl_4$ was partially hydrolyzed in a batch reactor at $150^{\circ}C$ to form nearly monodisperse silicon oxychloride particles. In the second stage, the oxychlorides were hydrolyzed further in a tubular reactor to have produced silica with the morphology and size nearly conserved.
Monodisperse microparticles has been particularly enabling for various applications in the encapsulation and delivery of pharmaceutical agents. The microfluidic devices are attractive candidates to produce highly uniform droplets that serve as templates to form monodisperse microparticles. The microfluidic devices that have micro-scale channel allow precise control of the balance between surface tension and viscous forces in two-phase flows. One of its essential abilities is to generate highly monodisperse droplets. In this paper, a microfluidic approach for preparing monodisperse polycaprolactone (PCL) microparticles is presented. The microfluidic devices that have a flow-focusing generator are manufactured by soft-lithography using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The crucial factors in the droplet generation are the controllability of size and monodispersity of the microdroplets. For this, the volumetric flow rates of the dispersed phase of oil solution and the continuous phase of water to generate monodisperse droplets are optimized. As a result, the optimal flow condition for droplet dripping region that is able to generate uniform droplet is found. Furthermore, the droplets containing PCL polymer by solvent evaporation after collection of droplet from device is solidified to generate the microparticle. The particle size can be controlled by tuning the flow rate and the size of the microchannel. The monodispersity of the PCL particles is measured by a coefficient of variation (CV) below 5%.

Polystyrene (PS) nanospheres with a monodisperse size distribution, positive surface charge and high molecular weight were successfully synthesized using various types of metal stearates in an aqueous NaOH medium. The diameter of the PS nanospheres was controlled from 80 to 450 nm by changing the type of metal stearate. It was also found that controlling the NaOH concentration in solution was important for producing monodisperse PS nanoparticles. The nanospheres prepared with zinc stearate possessed a positive surface charge of 60 to 80 mV, confirming that PS particles were functionalized with metal stearates. It is believed that the metal stearates provide PS particles with not only colloidal stability but also a positive surface charge.
Monodisperse PMMA micro spheres are prepared by means of a simple soap-free emulsion polymerization in methanol-enriched aqueous medium in a single step process. The size and uniformity of the microspheres are dependent on the polymerization temperature. In a stable system, the uniformity is improved with the polymerization time. The most uniform and stable micro spheres are obtained under mild agitation speed of 100 rpm at 70$^{\circ}C$. The monodisperse PMMA microspheres in the size range of 1.4-2.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ having less than 5% size variation are successfully achieved with varying concentrations of monomer and initiator. As the monomer and initiator concentrations increase, the larger micro spheres with enhanced uniformity are obtained. However, the decreased amount of water induces the polydisperse PMMA particles due to the generation of secondary particles.
Monodisperse silica nanospheres were synthesized by Stober method using rotating cylinder systems with batch or continuous manner. The particle size could be controlled by adjusting the reactant compositions such as the amount of monomer, catalyst, and water in the reaction mixture. The size and monodispersity of the ceramic particles could be controlled by changing the reaction medium with different alcohols other than ethanol or changing the reaction temperature. The effect of Taylor number (Ta) on the average diameter and standard deviation of silica particles were also studied by adjusting the rotation speed of inner cylinder, and the maximum diameter of particles was observed at Ta ${\approx}3,000$.

A new and simple method has been developed to synthesize highly crystalline and monodisperse maghemite (γ-Fe₂O₃) and zirconia (ZrO₂) nanocristallites. High temperature aging of metal-surfactant complex was founded to generate monodisperse nanoparticles, wherein the nuclei were prepared by the thermal decomposition of iron-oleate complex in case of iron oxide and nonhydrolytic sol-gel reaction in case of zirconia respectively. By varying the experimental conditions, in other words concentration of surfactants, kind of metal precursor, reaction temperature and so on, the diameter of spherical nanoparticles could be controlled at various size. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, and low- and high-resolution transmission electron microscope.
Monodisperse spherical $SiO_2$ particles of various sizes ($\sim$350 nm and $\sim$800 nm) and size distributions were synthesized from TEOS and MTMS. The particle size and size distribution were controlled by changing the volume ratio of water to ethanol and the reaction temperature. Narrow-sized $SiO_2$ particles with $\sim$3% size distribution were obtained. Self-assembly of the $SiO_2$ particles for photonic crystals were performed by the solvent evaporation method. The number of ordered $SiO_2$ layers can be controlled by changing the amount of the dispersed $SiO_2$ volume fraction in the solvent.
