  • Dark Mura phenomena which can happen at the region with high temperature gradient in a Notebook LCD Monitor using LED light source has numerically been studied. The calculation was conducted under the nearly realistic conditions by considering the anisotropic thermal properties of materials and the real dimensions of each component. The two performance indices of LED monitor, i.e., the maximum temperature and the spacial gradient of temperature were examined for the various shapes, lengths and thickness of heat sink plate. Calculated results give more reasonable temperature distribution comparing with experimental results.

  • In order to review the failure rate of PC monitor under normal environmental conditions, we experimented for various levels of each factors, e.g. Power on/off, DPM mode, using voltage incoming Surge, Torque strength etc. According to the results of experiment and SN ratios we investigated that the causes of the failure for the horizontal output TR of monitor are Mode change, dispersion of Torque and $h_{FE}$ and these are critical effect. For the new reliability test we suggested that strengthened part tests in IQC branch, Torque change controls in the TR specification are necessary.

Monitoring Activities of Permanent GPS Stations at Tide Gauge in South Korea

  • South Korea has about 80 permanent GPS stations, being used for a variety of applications such as DGPS, RTK, survey and geodesy. Some of them are installed in or near the coastal area for the purpose of maritime navigation. But, until recently, none of them are used for tide gauge benchmark monitoring. In order to monitor the absolute sea level changes, it is necessary to monitor the land uplift or subsidence occurring at tide gauge sites. It is a common practice to use GPS stations installed at tide gauges to determine absolute sea level. This collaborative efforts coordinated by IGS are called TIGA Pilot Project. Many countries including U.S., Canada, European Union nations, Australia and Japan are participating in TIGA, but South Korea is not a member yet. Recently, we established continuously operating GPS stations at tide gauges located in Incheon and Jeju to monitor the movement of tide gauges sites. This paper will introduce goals and progress of the efforts.

Hue Preserving Color Gamut Mapping (색조 보존을 위한 칼라 색역 매핑)

  • This paper presents a hue preserving gamut mapping algorithm for color monitor and printer. The gamuts of monitor and printer are set by the profile of color reproduction media, specified by ICC(International Color Consortium) and provided by vendors, then those gamuts are represented on the CIE xy color space. In case that the color of monitor are located on out-of-gamut of printer, these are clipped on the point of gamut boundary of printer towards a reference white point. On the other hand, colors are in-gamut of printer are unchanged. An image generated by the algorithm keeps a ratio of each pixel of original image. Advantages of the algorithm are easy to implement and fast processing time than other algorithms which involve hue preserving especially in CIELAB color space.

  • This paper describes the design methodology of the operator training simulator for power monitor and control system in the railway system. In power system, the purpose of energy management system was to monitor, control, and analyze the performance of generation and transmission system based on H/W and S/W. Network analysis applications provide a clear picture of power system characteristics using state estimation, power flow and short circuit analysis. In this respect, the operator training system in the railway system should be equipped with the methodology of these systems. First, the proposed database structure in the railway system was introduced. Then the overall structure of operator training system based on railway analysis applications was proposed. Finally, a methodology to verify the performance of the developed applications was described.

  • We have designed embedded web sewer system and ported Linux operating system version 2.4.5 at our system. And then We implemented to control and monitor widely separated hardware and implemented to monitor widely separated image using CMOS image sensor HV7131B. Web server is the Boa web server with General Public License. We designed for this system using of Intel's SA1110 ARM core base processor and connecting input and output device at GPIO port of SA1110. Device driver of General purpose I/O for Embedded Linux OS is designed. And then the application program controlling driver is implemented to use of common gate interface C language. User is available to control and monitor at client PC. This method have benefit to reduce the Expenditure of hardware design and development time against PC base system and have various and capacious application against firmware base system.

  • Serial communications such as RS-232C or RS-485 have been used to control and monitor the industrial plants for a long in cooperating with a computer or microprocessor. In recent years a great deal of effort has been made to achieve these control and monitoring through Internet network. This paper proposes a microprocessor system to implement remote control and monitoring system through Internet network. The proposed system uses NE2000 compatible NIC for data link and physical layer to access Internet network The microprocessor employed in the system plays a role of interfacing NE2000 compatible NIC interpreting protocols above link layer, controlling and monitoring industrial plants simultaneously. This paper also shows MMI and experimental results which control and monitor two power plants on the computer monitor with a mouse remotely to verify the proposed.

  • A practical scheme to reduce failure of the PCB(Printed Circuit Board) of a monitor is introduced using deformed mode shape under mechanical shock. When the monitor is given critical shock loads, cracks are commonly initiated at the tip of a hole on the PCB. Accordingly, a deformed mode shape of the PCB is obtained using a FEM code to define a weak point on the PCB under mechanical shock, and then the position and direction of the hole is determined to prevent the failure at the critical mode shape. Also, the stress intensity factor around the weak point on the PCB is calculated to check the possibility of fracture by normal tensile stress. In conclusion, present research is useful to assist the practical design of components-layout on the PCB.

  • 클라우드 컴퓨팅 환경에서 서비스 이용자는 기존의 컴퓨터 및 스토리지 자원을 소유하지 않고도 클라우드 컴퓨팅에서 제공되는 서비스를 언제 어디서나 효율적으로 이용할 수 있다. 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스가 발달함에 따라 클라우드 컴퓨팅이 구축되어 있는 데이터센터에서 사용하는 전력량도 증가하고 있다[1]. 전력량의 증가로 인해 전력 관리에 관한 각종 문제점들이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 Cloud Monitor[2]를 이용하여 클라우드 컴퓨팅 환경에서 소비되는 컴퓨터 자원 및 전력량을 측정하는 방안을 제시한다.

  • Meltdown, Spectre 등 하드웨어의 취약점을 이용하는 side-channel 공격이 주목을 받으면서 주요 microarchitecture 구조에 대한 철저한 이해의 필요성이 커지고 있다. 현대 마이크로프로세서에서 branch prediction이 갖는 중요성에도 불구하고 세부적인 사항은 거의 알려지지 않았으며 잠재적 공격에 대비하기 위해서는 반드시 현재 드러난 정보 이상의 detail을 탐구하기 위한 시도가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 Performance Monitor Counter를 이용해 branch 명령어를 포함한 프로그램이 실행되는 동안 Branch Prediction Unit에 의한 misprediction 이벤트가 발생하는 횟수를 체크하여 인텔 하스웰, 스카이레이크에서 사용되는 branch target buffer의 구조를 파악하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 연구를 통해 해당 프로세서의 BTB의 size, number of way를 추정할 수 있었다.
