Recently the optical fiber lines have been widely deployed in the trunk lines and digital data service network. The unexpected failures of optical fiber lines by natural disasters and road construction work have increased rear by rear and the number of damaged telecommunication lines per failures is on increasing. In the meantime, it takes long time to recover the optical fiber lines failures. So, it is important to maintain and monitor the status of optical fiber lines for prevention of optical fiber lines failures. Therefore, KT(Korea Telecom) needs efficient and automatic maintenance system to operate and monitor the optical fiber lines. FLOMS(Fiber Line Operation and Monitor System) had been developed in '96 and pilot system was installed at telephone offices in '97. This paper describes the FLOMS which carries out the functions of efficient maintenance and supports for monitoring optical fiber lines and managing facilities in optical fiber lines.

Due to the recent increase of the importance and demand of security services, the importance of a surveillance monitor system that makes an automatic security system possible is increasing. As the market for surveillance monitor systems is growing, price competitiveness is becoming important. As a result of this trend, surveillance monitor systems based on an embedded system are widely used. In this paper, an object detection algorithm based on an embedded system for a surveillance monitor system is introduced. To apply the object detection algorithm to the embedded system, the most important issue is the efficient use of resources, such as memory and processors. Therefore, designing an appropriate algorithm considering the limit of resources is required. The proposed algorithm uses two background models; therefore, the embedded system is designed to have two independent processors. One processor checks the sub-background models for if there are any changes with high update frequency, and another processor makes the main background model, which is used for object detection. In this way, a background model will be made with images that have no objects to detect and improve the object detection performance. The object detection algorithm utilizes one-dimensional histogram distribution, which makes the detection faster. The proposed object detection algorithm works fast and accurately even in a low-priced embedded system.
Indonesia is more prone to natural disasters due to its geological condition under the three main plates, making Indonesia experience frequent seismic activity, causing earthquakes, volcanic eruption, and tsunami. Those disasters could lead to other disasters such as landslides, floods, land subsidence, and coastal inundation. Monitoring those disasters could be essential to predict and prevent damage to the environment. We reviewed the application of remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) for detecting natural disasters in the case of Indonesia, based on 43 articles. The remote sensing and GIS method will be focused on InSAR techniques, image classification, and susceptibility mapping. InSAR method has been used to monitor natural disasters affecting the deformation of the earth's surface in Indonesia, such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, and land subsidence. Monitoring landslides in Indonesia using InSAR techniques has not been found in many studies; hence it is crucial to monitor the unstable slope that leads to a landslide. Image classification techniques have been used to monitor pre-and post-natural disasters in Indonesia, such as earthquakes, tsunami, forest fires, and volcano eruptions. It has a lack of studies about the classification of flood damage in Indonesia. However, flood mapping was found in susceptibility maps, as many studies about the landslide susceptibility map in Indonesia have been conducted. However, a land subsidence susceptibility map was the one subject to be studied more to decrease land subsidence damage, considering many reported cases found about land subsidence frequently occur in several cities in Indonesia.
Objective: This study aims to conduct a comprehensive review of monitoring systems to monitor and manage physical function of community-dwelling elderly living alone and suggest future directions of unobtrusive monitoring. Design: Literature review Methods: The importance of health-related monitoring has been emphasized due to the aging population and novel corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak. As the population gets old and because of changes in culture, the number of single-person households among the elderly is expected to continue to increase. Elders are staying home longer and their physical function may decline rapidly, which can be a disturbing factorto successful aging. Therefore, systematic elderly management must be considered. Results: Frequently used technologies to monitor elders at home included red, green, blue (RGB) camera, accelerometer, passive infrared (PIR) sensor, wearable devices, and depth camera. Of them all, considering privacy concerns and easy-to-use features for elders, depth camera possibly can be a technology to be adapted at homes to unobtrusively monitor physical function of elderly living alone. The depth camera has been used to evaluate physical functions during rehabilitation and proven its efficiency. Conclusions: Therefore, physical monitoring system that is unobtrusive should be studied and developed in the future to monitor physical function of community-dwelling elderly living alone for the aging population.

In this paper, we propose a fault tolerant embedded system using memory redundancy on the full-virtualization based virtual machine monitor. The proposed virtual machine monitor first virtualizes main memory of embedded system utilizing efficient shadow page table scheme so that the embedded system runs as a virtual machine on the virtual machine monitor. The virtual machine monitor makes the backup of the embedded system run as another virtual machine by copying memory contents of the embedded system into memory space of backup system according to predefined schedules. When an error occurs in the target virtual machine, the corresponding standby virtual machine takes the role of target virtual machine and continues its operation. Performance evaluation studies show that such backups and switches of virtual machines are performed with minor performance degradation.

This paper presents an innovative way of integrating scheduling and project controls with the environmental impact of a construction project to track, monitor, and manage environmental emissions at the activity level. As a starting point, scheduling and project controls help monitor the status of a project to provide an assessment of the duration and sequence of activities. Additionally, project schedules can also reflect resource allocation and costs associated with various phases of a construction project. Owners, contractors and construction managers closely monitor tasks or activities on the critical path(s) and/or longest path(s) calculated through network based scheduling techniques. However, existing industry practices do not take into account environmental impact associated with each activity during the life cycle of a project. Although the environmental impact of a project may be tracked in various ways, that tracking is not tied to the project schedule and, as such, generally is not updated when schedules are revised. In this research, a Cradle to Gate approach is used to estimate environmental emissions associated with each activity of a sample project schedule. The research group has also investigated the potential determination of scenarios of lowest environmental emissions, just as project managers currently determine scenarios with lowest cost or time. This methodology can be scaled up for future work to develop a library of unit emissions associated with commonly used construction materials and equipment. This will be helpful for project owners, contractors, and construction managers to monitor, manage, and reduce the carbon footprint associated with various projects.

Background: It is imperative that adequate sedation level should be maintained for safe and effective dental sedation. Cerebral state index (CSI) is a empirically derived parameter calculated from the processed electroencephalography (EEG). We investigated whether CSI can be used as a sedation depth indicator. Methods: We continuously recorded CSI and bispectral index (BIS) values from 10 healthy children aged 3.6 yr undergoing dental sedation. We also evaluated sedation level using the Modified Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation (MOAA/S). The correlation between CSI and BIS, or CSI and sedation score were sought a regression analysis. Results: There were good linearity between CSI values and sedation score. (r = 0.916, P < 0.001) The paired CSI and BIS values showed a significant correlation between the two values. (r = 0.895, P < 0.001) The difference between CSI and BIS values was not statistically significant at deep and conscious sedative levels. Conclusions: The CSI monitor can be easy to monitor sedation depth during dental sedation for children.

In this paper, we implement and verify performance monitor for parallel signal processing system, using DSP Starter Kit(DSK) of which the basic Processor is TMS302C6711 chip. The key ideas of this performance monitor is, using Real Time Data Exchange(RTDX) for the Purpose of real-time data transfer and function of DSP/BIOS, the ability to measure the Performance measure like DSP workload, memory usage, and bridge traffic. In the simulation, FFT, 2D FFT, Matrix Multiplication, and Fir Filter, which are widely used DSP algorithms, have been employed. Using performance monitor and Code Composer Studio from Texas Instrument(Tl) , the result has been recorded according to different frequencies, data sizes, and buffer sizes for a single wave file. The accuracy of our performance monitor has been verified by comparing those recorded results.

This study was designed to investigate the workers' exposure level to electromagnetic field(EMF) in accordance with the VDT arrangement in the work place and distance from VDT. Author compared the exposure strength of EMF in line group(workers exposed to EMF from both front and back side) and in shielding group(workers exposed to EMF exclusively from front side). The levels of EMF at 30cm and 50cm from front side and at 30cm from back side of VDT were also measured. The result were as follows: 1. Mean distance between a monitor and a worker in shielding group ($47.7{\pm}8.7cm$) significantly longer than that in line group($44.3{\pm}7.2cm$). Strength of EMF in shielding group [$1.3{\pm}0.7V/m$ (electric field) and $18.2{\pm}11.5mA/m$ (magnetic field) were lower than in line group [$1.4{\pm}0.6V/m$ and $26.6{\pm}11.6mA/m$, respectively] at the workers' position. 2. The strength of EMF was decreased with the distance from VDT. The strength at 70cm from VDT was nearly the same as the background strength in the ordinary office rooms. 3. Working distance from 9 inch monitor was significantly shorter than that from 14 inch and wider sized monitors. 4. The strength of EMF in extremely low frequency spectrum of color monitors was higher then that of black and white monitor. 5. Metal coated filters significantly decreased the electric field strength of EMF when earth line was connected. Metallic shield was effectively decreased the EMF strength from VDT, but wooden shield was not. From the above results, line type arrangement of VDT in the work place using metallic shield at the back side of VDT, and metal coated filter to monitor with application of earth line were recommended. It is also recommended to maintain workers position to be 60cm or more distance from monitor and 140cm or more between VDTs for minimizing workers' exposure to EMF.

Generally, the compromising electromagnetic emanations are generated from LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) monitor which is typical output component of computer. Because display information transmitted to LCD monitor is included in these emanations, there are risks about information leakage of monitor by eavesdropping of leaked signal. So, analysis about possibility of information leakage is necessary because electromagnetic security through the electromagnetic emanations is being at issue. In this paper, the possibility of display information leakage are demonstrated by analyzing the electromagnetic emanations from desktop and laptop monitors. The characteristics of leaked signal from LCD monitor is verified by analyzing display mechanism and the electromagnetic emanations are measured in the long distance by eavesdropping experiment. Also, threat of information leakage is confirmed by recovering display information with several signal processing technique and comprising with target display.
