Litho printing ink vehicles based on rosin modified phenolic are faster drying, have better durability, are harder and glosser and have greater resistance to water than ones based on ester gums. Ink-Water balance and rheological properties are important in litho printing process. These physical properties is concerned with molecular weight of Resin to use vehicle. So this paper was studied about the effects of changing molecular weight of Rosin modified phenolic on surface tension, viscosity, pseudoplasticity and printability of Litho Inks. The results were as follows. 1) The surface tension of model inks depended on the molecular \veight of the resin : Dispersion componnent of ink increase but non dispersion component decrease as molecular weight of Resin increase. 2) Water pick-up of litho ink is more fast balance, using low molecular weight of Resin. 3) Viscosity, Yield value and Newtonian value of model inks increase as molecular weight of Resin increase. 4) The litho ink prepared with the modified phenolic of which molecular weight is about 20000 showed the highest printing density and gloss.
The fabrication of polymer field-effect transistors with good electrical properties requires the minimization of molecular defects caused by low molecular weight (MW) fractions of a conjugated polymer. Here we report that the electrical properties of a narrow bandgap conjugated polymer could be dramatically improved as a result of dipping a thin film into a poor solvent. The dipping time in hexanes was controlled to efficiently eliminate the low molecular weight fractions and concomitantly improve the molecular ordering of the conjugated polymer. The correlation between the structural order and the electrical properties was used to optimize the dipping time and investigate the effects of the low MW fraction on the electrical properties of the resulting thin film.

Solution Properties of polyelectrolytic biopolymers such as chitosen, pectin, alginate and etc. are significantly influenced by molecular weight and salt concentrations. The effect of NaCI concentration on the hydrodynamic properties of chitosan in dilute region was investigated for chitosans of varying molecular weight. Intrinsic vicosity([η]) of citosans with 5 different molecular weight was determined by glass capillary viscometer, and the viscosity average molecular weight was calculated using Mark-Houwink equation. Intrinsic viscosity decreased with increasing NaCI concentration for all chitosan samples, and it was proportional to the logarithmic NaCI concentration, i.e.,[η]∝log{TEX}$(C_{NaCl})^{$\alpha$}${/TEX}. Decreasing trend of[η] with NaCI concentration became more pronounced with increasing molecular weight. It was also found that the a values, indicating {TEX}$C_{NaCl}${/TEX} dependence of[η], were linearly correlated with the logarithmic molecular weight({TEX}$R^{2}${/TEX}=0.980). The chain stiffness parameters(B) were calculated by B=S./{TEX}$([η]_{0.1})^{1.32}${/TEX}, in which S was obtained from slope of [η] va {TEX}$I^{-1/2}${/TEX}. The B values of chitosan samples were determined to be 0.113~0071 with a average of 0.09.
This study is to find the effect of the molecular weight distribution of components on the freeness and physical properties of paper by observing the change of properties according the modification of fibers by using production technology and process technology together to develop additives which can effectively control according to the purpose of paper-making process and by combining low molecular weight cellulase (below MW 20,000; CMC activity 400 unit) with different enzyme's molecular weight and activity and high molecular weight cellulase(MW 20,000∼80,000;CMC activity 90,000 unit) and then process them in Sw-BKP(Softwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Hw-BKP(Hardwood Bleached Kraft Pulp) and Cotton Linter Pulp and OCC(Old Corrugated Container) with different properties of pore of surface of fibers respectively, since it is judged that making the appropriate composition ratio of components is necessary in consideration of the properties of fibers and paper-making process.
Each of the two polycarbonates (PC) of different molecular weights was blended with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) under high-shear rate processing to afford PC/ABS. Sizes of ABS dispersed phases and mechanical properties of PC/ABS blends were investigated and high-shear rate processing of PC/ABS was carried out by changing screw speed and processing time. Prepared specimens were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) to observe morphology changes. Sizes of ABS dispersed phases in PC/ABS blends were observed to decrease gradually as screw speeds increased. Tensile strengths and elongations of specimens were investigated by universal testing method (UTM) to study the influence of molecular weight of PC exerting on PC/ABS blends. As a result, PC1/ABS blends (PC1: higher molecular weight PC) exhibited more strengthened properties than PC2/ABS (PC2: lower molecular weight PC). The tensile strength of PC1/ABS showed an increasing tendency when the screw speed increased, and the elongation did not show a significant decrease, but increased slightly with increasing shear time at a constant screw speed of 1000 rpm.
Six physical properties (molecular weight, heat capacity, side chain weight, side chain volume, standard entropy and partial molar volume) of amino acids, peptides and their derivatives were examined by molecular modeling techniques. The molecular connectivity index, Wiener distance index and ad hoc descriptor are employed as structural parameters to encode information about branching, size, cyclization, unsaturation, heteroatom content and polarizability. This paper examines the correlation of the molecular modeling techique's parameters and the physicochemical properties of amino acids and their derivatives. As a result, calculated values were in agreement with experimental data in the above six physical properties of amino acids, peptides and their derivatives and the molecular connectivity index was superior to the other indices in fitting the calculated data.
The supra molecular weight poly(〔R〕-3-hydroxybutyrate) (PH B), having a molecular weight greater than 2 million Da, has recently been found to possess improved mechanical properties compared with the normal molecular weight PHB, which has a molecular weight of less than 1 million Da. However, applications for this PHB have been hampered due to the difficulty of its production. Reported here, is the development of a new metabolically engineered Escherichia coli strain and its fermentation for high level production of supra molecular weight PHB. Recombinant E. coli strains, harboring plasm ids of different copy numbers containing the Alcaligenes latus PHB biosynthesis genes, were cultured and the molecular weights of the accumulated PHB were compared. When the recombinant E. coli XL1-Blue, harboring a medium-copy-number pJC2 containing the A. latus PHB biosynthesis genes, was cultivated by fed-batch culture at pH 6.0, supra molecular weight PHB could be produced at up to 89.8 g/L with a productivity of 2.07 g PHB/L-h. The molecular weight of PHB obtained under these conditions was as high as 22 MDa, exceeding by an order of magnitude the molecular weight of PHB typically produced in Ralstonia eutropha or recombinant E. coli.
This study was to investigate the effect of chitosan molecular weight, its charge density, and its surface coating treatment on the antibacterial properties of paper. For this study, E.coil was used for antibacterial experiment. Results obtained were as follows : 1. The antibacterial properties of chitosan was significant on the surface-treated sheet. 2. Antibacterial property surface treatment was appeared to be effective when film was formed on the paper surface. 3. The antibacterial properties of chitosan-treated paper was dependent on the amount and the molecular weight of chitosan used. The lower the molecular weight of the chitosan down to 30,000 the better the antibacterial properties in this experiment. 4. Determination of the degree of chitosan-deacetylation by colloidal titration method was consistent with the more complicated and conventional FT-IR method.
