  • A representative isolate KU53 of the predominant Penicillium species was obtained from rice samples from rice processing complexes of National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in Korea. In this study, isolate KU53 was identified by its morphological and molecular characteristics. The macro- and microscopic characteristics of isolate KU53 were compared with the P. fellutanum reference isolate KCTC16913 on different media; isolate KU53 was generally identical to those of the reference isolate KCTC16913. In a molecular-based identification, the ${\beta}$-tubulin and translation elongation factor 1-alpha sequences of isolate KU53 was most closely related to those of P. fellutanum. Thus, isolate KU53 from stored rice could be identified as P. fellutanum, some isolates of which are known to produce mycotoxin-related metabolites. To our knowledge, this is the first detection of P. fellutanum from stored rice in Korea.

  • The aim of this study was to prepare diacylglycerol (DAG) by enzymatic glycerolysis of lard. The effects of reaction parameters such as lipase type, reaction temperature, enzyme amount, substrate molar ratio (lard/glycerol), reaction time, and magnetic stirring speed were investigated. Lipozyme RMIM was found to be a more active biocatalyst than Novozym 435, and the optimal reaction conditions were 14:100 (W/W) of enzyme to lard substrate ratio, 1:1 of lard to glycerol molar ratio, and 500 rpm magnetic stirring speed. The reaction mixture was first incubated at $65^{\circ}C$ for 2 h and then transferred to $45^{\circ}C$ for 8 h. At the optimum reaction conditions, the conversion rate of triacylglycerol (TAG) and the content of DAG in the reaction mixture reached 76.26% and 61.76%, respectively, and the DAG content in purified glycerolized lard was 82.03% by molecular distillation. The distribution of fatty acids and Fourier transform infrared spectra in glycerolized lard samples were similar to those in lard samples. The results revealed that enzymatic glycerolysis and molecular distillation can be used to prepare more highly purified DAG from lard.

  • We have investigated the photoreflectance characteristics for In\ulcornerGaAs/GaAs heterojunction structure grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The E\ulcorner bandgap energy of In\ulcornerGa\ulcornerAs at room temperature was observed at about 1.3 eV. From this result, the indium composition x value was calculated. The shoulder peaks were observed higher than E\ulcorner peaks, and peak positions were shifted toward 12 meV to 70 meV higher energy with increasing doping concentrations. The shoulder peaks can be observed by In segregation and re-evaporation. However, we think that indium re-evaporation cause th shift of shoulder peaks after epilayer growth.

  • Ar, $N_2$, and He are the conventional kind of shield gas that are used for laser welding. Many researches on the impact of laser welding shield gas have been done, and it is on going until now. However, there are few studies that analyze the changes and differences of the plasma emission signal. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the change in the penetration characteristics according to the type of shield gas during fiber laser welding impacts to the plasma signal. As a result, if was checked that the difference in molecular weight of Ar, $N_2$, and He affects to the amount of spatter, and also found that the measured plasma radiation signal changes similar to the order of the molecular weight of the gases. Especially, clear change on the signal intensity per each shield gas was measured through RMS, and found that the shield gas was nothing to do with the FFT analyzed result.

  • Wood chips of oak(Quercus mongolica) and larch(Larix leptolepis) were treated with low pressure steaming explosion. Main components of exploded wood were separated with hot water and methanol extraction. Crude lignin separated from those extractives were purified and those chemical characteristics were investigated. And also, lignin adhesive was prepared from crude lignin and studied those chemical characteristics. The results can be summarized as follows ; 1. The purified lignin by Bj$\ddot{o}$kman's method from crude lignin is about 30% in exploded oak wood and is about 11% in exploded larch wood as a low amount. 2. The phenolic hydroxyl groups in the purified lignins are little higher than those of MWL and molecular weight distributions of the purified lignins are some lower than that of MWL. 3. Alkaline nitrobenzene oxidation products are very low in the clude lignin but those are increased in the purified lignin 4. The gravity of lignin resins(1.15 and 1.13) are a little lower than that of phenol resin(1.16) and the compressive shearing strength of lignin resins are higher than those of phenol resin.

  • Mycoviruses have been found in many fungal species including mushrooms. Double-stranded (ds) RNA genomes were common type in mycoviruses, but single-stranded (ss) RNA mycoviruses were also reported in some fungal species. Sequencing analysis using cDNA cloning experiments revealed that mycoviruses can be classified into several different virus families such as Totiviridae, Hypoviridae, Partitiviridae and Barnaviridae etc. Because the nucleotide sequence data that are available in these days are very limited in a number of mycoviruses, the existence of more diverse viral groups in fungi are currently expected. In this review, we selected four different fungal groups, which were considered as the model systems for mycovirus related studies in both plant pathogenic fungi and edible mushroom species, and discussed about their molecular characteristics of diverse mycoviruses. The plant pathogenic fungi introduced here were Cryphonectria parasitica and Helminthosporium victoriae and the edible mushroom species were Agaricus bisporus and Pleurotus ostreatus.

  • In this study, the effects of physical parameters (30-270 MPa of pressure, 3-57 min of time, and 1-$49^{\circ}C$ of temperature) on pork quality were investigated. Response surface methodology was used in order to monitor and model the changes in pork quality under varied pressure conditions. As quality characteristics, shear force, water holding capacity (WHC) and the CIE color of pork were measured, and optimum pressure conditions were evaluated by statistical modeling. Pressure improved the WHC of pork at relatively low temperature ($<25^{\circ}C$); however, the opposite occurred with increasing temperature. Although pressure and temperature affected the tenderness of the meat, interaction effects among variations were not observed. At pressure levels higher than 200 MPa, the color of pork differed markedly from that of the untreated controls. In particular, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed marked evidence of myosin denaturation. The present study demonstrates that pork quality varies depending on pressure conditions.

  • Electrical characteristics of the Si-O superlattice diode as a function of annealing conditions have been studied. The nanocrystalline silicon/adsorbed oxygen superlattice formed by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system. Consequently, the experimental results of superlattice diode with multilayer Si-O structure showed the stable and good insulating behavior with high breakdown voltage. This is very useful promise for Si-based optoelectronic and quantum device as well as for the replacement of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) in ultra high speed and lower power CMOS devices in the future, and it can be readily integrated with silicon ULSI processing.

  • The photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of the silicon-oxygen(Si-O) superlattice formed by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) were studied. To confirm the presence of the nanocrystalline Si structure, Raman scattering measurement was performed. The blue shift was observed in the PL peak of the oxygen-annealed sample, compared to the hydrogen-annealed sample, which is due to a contribution of smaller crystallites. Our results determine the right direction for the fabrication of silicon-based optoelectronic and quantum devices as well as for the replacement of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) in high-speed and low-power silicon MOSFET devices in the future.

  • The silica containing carbon (C-SiO$_2$) membranes were fabricated using poly(imide siloxane) (PIS) having -CO- swivel group. The characteristics of porous C-SiO$_2$ structures prepared by the pyrolysis of poly(imide siloxane) were related with the micro-phase separation between the imide block and the siloxane block. Furthermore, the nitrogen adsorption isotherms of the CMS and the C-SiO$_2$ membranes were investigated to define the characteristics of porous structures. The C-SiO$_2$ membranes derived from PIS showed the type IV isotherm and possessed the hysteresis loop, which was associated with the mesoporous carbon structures, while the CMS membranes derived from PI showed the type I isotherm. For the molecular sieving probe, the C-SiO$_2$ membranes pyrolyzed at 550, 600, and 700$^{\circ}C$ showed the O$_2$ permeability of 924, 1076, and 367 Barrer (1 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-10/㎤(STP)cm/$\textrm{cm}^2$$.$s$.$cmHg) and O$_2$/N$_2$ selectivity of 9, 8, and 12.
