Objectives: This study aimed to assess the presence of pulp stones through an examination of cone beam computed tomography images and correlate their prevalence with age, sex, dental arch and side, tooth type, and restoration type and depth. Materials and Methods: Cone beam computed tomography images obtained from 673 patients and archival data on 11,494 teeth were evaluated. The associations of pulp stones with age, sex, dental arch and side, tooth type, and restoration type and depth were noted. All the measurements were subjected to a χ2 test and one sample χ2 test (p < 0.05). Results: In the study group, 163 (24.2%) patients and 379 (3.3%) teeth had at least one pulp stone. The pulp stone frequency in those aged 30-39 years was significantly greater than in those aged 18-29 and ≥ 60 years, and the frequency was higher in females than in males (p < 0.05). The highest prevalence of pulp stones was found in maxillary dental arches and molar teeth (p < 0.05). Pulp stones were significantly more common in medium-depth restorations (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Maxillary molar teeth, medium-depth restorations, individuals aged 30-39 years and females had a greater percentage of pulp stones.
Lower right first and second molar missings were restored by unilaterally designed removable partial denture, not to disturb the phonetic function. Terminal abutment teeth were splinted and ASC52 attachment aws used as a direct retainer. After that, oral examination and Roentgenographic examination were done periodically for 2 years. There were no remarkable changes on the abutment teeth and its surrounding structures. Also, there no phonetic disturbances by the appliance.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the survival rate by comparing Class II restoration using flowable resin composite with stainless steel crown in primary molars. Electronic medical records and radiographs of 1,504 primary molars with proximal caries of 590 patients from June 2015 to August 2019 were analyzed. With the collected data, survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. The 1-year survival rate of flowable resin composite in the primary molar was 98.5%, 3-year survival rate was 87.7%, and mean survival time was 39 months. There was no statistically significant difference between flowable resin composite and stainless steel crown (p = 0.896). Within the limits of this study, Class II restoration using flowable resin composite can be considered a promising option for the treatment of proximal caries in primary molars.

Since January 2019, insurance coverage for caries treatment of permanent teeth using composite resin in children aged 12 and under has started in South Korea. The purpose of this study was to compare the pattern of permanent molar composite resin restoration aged 12 and under before and after the insurance coverage from January 2009 to March 2020 in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Kyung Hee University Dental Hospital at Gangdong. Since the insurance coverage was started in 2019, the frequency of permanent molar composite resin restoration aged 12 and under has increased more than twice. There was a significant change in frequency of resin restoration by shape of cavity comparing before and after the insurance coverage, whereas there was no significant difference in changes by patient age, gender and position of tooth. As accessibility to the permanent tooth composite resin restoration is increased by the insurance coverage, which shows a fair survival rate, it is expected that it could be able to secure oral health in the early permanent dentition aged 12 and under.

Molar Incisor Hypomineralization(MIH) have recently gained intensive research interests and various clinical trials. Most prevalence, etiology, treatment studies in MIH were carried out in the European countries, and data from the Korean were seldom. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of MIH and the status of dental caries and treatment on the first permanent molars in primary school children. For this study, 1,344 primary school students in Busan and Ulsan cities were examined directly the permanent incisors and first molars. The results of the survey were as follows: 81 MIH cases were identified among 1,344 cases. The prevalence of MIH in this group of children was 6.0%. Children with MIH showed a significantly higher DMFT value for permanent teeth than children without MIH. The mean number of decayed, missed, and filled in 1st permanent molars(DMFT index) was 1.17. The rate of children with restoration on 1st permanent molar was 13.6% and the sequence of restoration materials was as follows : composite resin, amalgam, gold inlay.
Objectives: This study was conducted to compare the post-fracture survival rate of endodontically treated molar endodontically treated teeth (molar ETT) restored with resin composites or crowns and to identify potential risk factors, using a retrospective cohort design. Materials and Methods: Dental records of molar ETT with crowns or composite restorations (recall period, 2015-2019) were collected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The incidence of unrestorable fractures was identified, and molar ETT were classified according to survival. Information on potential risk factors was collected. Survival rates and potential risk factors were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier log-rank test and Cox regression model. Results: The overall survival rate of molar ETT was 87% (mean recall period, 31.73 ± 17.56 months). The survival rates of molar ETT restored with composites and crowns were 81.6% and 92.7%, reflecting a significant difference (p < 0.05). However, ETT restored with composites showed a 100% survival rate if only 1 surface was lost, which was comparable to the survival rate of ETT with crowns. The survival rates of ETT with composites and crowns were significantly different (97.6% vs. 83.7%) in the short-term (12-24 months), but not in the long-term (> 24 months) (87.8% vs. 79.5%). Conclusions: The survival rate from fracture was higher for molar ETT restored with crowns was higher than for ETT restored with composites, especially in the first 2 years after restoration. Molar ETT with limited tooth structure loss only on the occlusal surface could be successfully restored with composite restorations.
Objectives: This study aimed to measure the water sorption / solubility of Biodentine, composite resin and glass ionomer cement. Materials and Methods: The materials used in this study were Biodentine(BD), Filtek Z250(FZ) and Ketac Molar(KM). Twenty disc-shaped specimens of each material were prepared of 6mm diameter and 1mm thickness. All specimens were desiccated for 24 hours and weighed(m1). After then, They were immersed in distilled water and stored at $37^{\circ}C$. 1 week later, They were washed with running water, wiped with absorbent paper and weighed(m2). Finally, They were dried for 24 hours and weighed(m3). Water sorption and solubility, net water uptake were calculated. Results: KM and BD showed high water sorption than FZ(P<0.05). KM and BD exhibited similar water sorption(P<0.05). BD exhibited high solubility than KM(P=0.012). BD exhibited high net water uptake than FZ(P=0.008). Conclusion: Biodentine showed higher water sorption, solubility and net water uptake than Filtek Z250 and Ketac Molar. Within limitation of this study, it is not recommended to use Biodentine for permanent restoration.
This study was perfomed to investigate the prosthodontic and periodontal status of the abutment teeth in distally extending bridges(DEBs) (78 cases) and removable partial dentures(RPDs) (43 cases) for 122 patients (55 males and 57 females) visiting department of Periodontology, Seoul National University Hospital. The average wearing periods were 67.8 months for DEBs and 66.4 months for RPDs. 38.4% of the patients in DEBs and 35.9% in RPDs complainted of chewing discomfort and 22.6% and 24.4% were not chewing on the prosthodontically - treated sides, respectively. In DEBs, when the restoration for 2nd molar supported by 1st molar & 2nd premolar was grouped to type 1, 1st molar supported by 1st & 2nd premolars was type 2, and 1st & 2nd molars supported by 1st & 2nd premolars was type 3, there was a significant differences only in the tooth mobility score among clinical parameters (type 2>type 1>type 3). In RPDs, when bilateral free-end case was grouped to type 1, and unilateral case was type 2, there was a significant difference in the Gingival index (type 1>type 2). In DEBs, 62.8% of restoration were overcontoured, 72% had interproximal space closures, 30.5% overextended pontics and 86.6% overhanging margins. In RPDs, 24.4% of the restorations were overcontoured, 45.5% had interproxinal space closures and 58.3% overhanging margins. From these results of this study, periodontal problems caused by prosthodontic defects were considered to be contributing factors in chewing discomfort.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to evaluate the occurrence of errors regarding adaptation by conducting a three-dimensional assessment comparing the bridge type dental restoration after the cutting process, which has multiple abutments, with a single type dental restoration. Methods: By using ten identical files obtained by scanning the master model, thirty designs were created consisting of ten maxillary right first premolars and ten maxillary right first molars with single crown abutments, along with ten bridge designs with the identical abutment. A 5-axis milling machine was used to produce the design file. The produced denture prostheses were scanned using a silicone replica for a STL file. An evaluation was conducted using 3D analysis software on the master model and each of the thirty data files. Results: The RMS value of the pre-molar (14) was $38.4{\pm}4{\mu}m$ for single and $54.7{\pm}6{\mu}m$ for bridge abutment; therefore, a statistically significant difference was observed for single and bridge designs although both shared the same abutment form (P<.05). Also, the RMS value of the molar (16) was $47.6{\pm}2{\mu}m$ and $56.6{\pm}5{\mu}m$ for the single and bridge designs, respectively, thereby presenting a statistically significant difference (P<.05). Conclusion: As a result, dental prosthesis fabricated using the single method presented better internal adaptation outcomes.
Purpose: Dental implants present several advantages over other tooth replacement options. However, there has been little research on masticatory function in relation to implant treatment. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the improvement of masticatory function two weeks after implant restoration. Methods: Masticatory ability was evaluated with the subjective food intake ability (FIA) and objective mixing ability index (MAI) methods. Fifty-four subjects with first and second missing molars completed the study. The subjects were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire about 30 different food items, and to chew wax samples 10 times both before and two weeks after implant restoration. A total of 108 waxes were analyzed with an image analysis program. Results: Dental implant restoration for lost molar teeth on one side increased the FIA score by 9.0% (P<0.0001). The MAI score also increased, by 14.3% after implant restoration (P<0.0001). Comparison between the good and poor mastication groups, which were subdivided based on the median MAI score before implant restoration, showed that the FIA score of the poor group was enhanced 1.1-fold while its MAI score was enhanced 2.0-fold two weeks after an implant surgery. Conclusions: Using the FIA and MAI assessment methods, this study showed that masticatory function was improved two weeks after implant restoration. In particular, the enhancement of masticatory function by implant restoration was greater in patients with relatively poor initial mastication than in those with good initial mastication.
