  • Several aspects of polymer dispersed liquid crystal(PDLC) film properties make them interesting for display application. Most versions of PDLC materials are able to modulate light without the use of polarizers, which offers advantages in optical throughput(brightness) and viewing angle compared to polarizer-based display. In this papers, we attemped to doe minimum of remaining liquid crystals at polymer network for the liquid crystal-polymer composite (LCPC) films. In results, best phase separation behaviors turned out liquid crystal/monomer/oligomer mixture system.

  • We made the logic that can transmit the service data and clock of interest by using the optical signal and demodulate the original signal at the receiving end. Because We can interface the all communications equipment to which We intended to send the signal. We can modulate the dock and clocked data using optical signal and then transmit the original optical signal to the receiving end, finally, arbitrarily control the traffic between ports.

  • We reported the result of driving PDP's in selective erase scheme and three wall charge states. Compared to the selective write driving scheme, the selective erase scheme achieved flicker free half-ON state with much simpler driving waveforms than the selective write scheme. We believed that this improvement was possible since the cells entering the address period with enough wall charges to modulate easily with.

  • Immunonutrition is the provision of specific nutrients that modulate the activity of the immune system. Several nutrients including arginine, glutamine, nucleotides, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and prebiotics can be provided to enhance immunity in critically ill patients. Supplying immunonutrition to critically-ill children, better prognosis and shortening of the hospital stay are expected from its immuno-modulating effects. Therefore, immune-enhancing enteral and parenteral formulas can be recommended in children with severe illness.

  • The effect of ginsenosides on the adenylate cyclase and guanylate cyclase of rat brain has been studied. We have found that Rbl, Rc and one unknown ginsenoside (probably Ra) exerted reciprocal effects on adenylate cyclase and guanylate cyclase. This dual effect of ginsenosides leads us to speculate that some ginsenosides may act as regulatory agents and modulate the activities of these two enzyme systems.

  • The Channel Coding Unit (CCU) is an integral component of Payload Data Transmission System (PDTS) for the Multi-Spectral Camera (MSC) data. The main function of the CCU is channel coding and encryption. CCU has two channels (I & Q) for data processing. The input of CCU is the output of DCSU (Data Compression & Storage Unit). The output of CCU is the input of QTX which modulate data for RF communication. In this paper, there are the overview, short H/W description and operation concept of CCU.

  • Type I Interferons (IFNs) are potent antiviral cytokines that modulate both innate immunity and adaptive immunity. Type I IFNs are immediately induced by viral infection, and stimulate production of a broad range of gene products such as double-stranded RNA-activated protein kinase (PKR), 2' 5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS)/RNaseL and Mx GTPases. These proteins inhibit viral replication in host cells. Type I IFNs, in turn, lead to antiviral state at early phase of viral infection. We provide an overview of the knowledge of IFN-inducible antiviral proteins conserved in vertebrates.

  • Human Genome Project has recently been completed and the information on nucleotide sequences of our whole genome is now available at the public or commercial data banks. Next goals are to identify the functions of each gene and to elucidate the intracellular signal transduction pathways regulating gene expression. We have established a PCR-based bioassay to search for biologically active compounds that can modulate the expression of genes encoding important proteins. (omitted)

  • Garlic (Allium sativum) has been used as a general food and a remedy in Oriental for a long time. Since garlic compounds have been also shown to inhibit growth of tumors and to modulate the activity of carcinogenesis, the effects of allicin on growth and survival in human gastric epithelial cells were evaluated by cell viability, cell cycle analysis and DNA fragmentation. Protein levels of cytochrome C, Bcl-xL, Bax and AIF were detected by Western blotting. Effects of recombinant VacA on caspase proteases activity were also determined. (omitted)
