Development of Modular Control System Based on Closed-Loop Control for Wind Farms

  • The use of renewable energy sources for power generation has been steadily increasing. Power generation using renewable energy has the advantage of not generating carbon but has the disadvantage of high volatility depending on the weather. This volatility makes stable power supply difficult. Curtailment is occurring to address volatility. Various facilities are operated together to solve the loss caused by the curtailment. The existing SCADA must be modified for turbine control reflecting the conditions of various facilities. However, since it is difficult to modify SCADA, a modular control system is required. In this study, we propose Modular Control System Based on Closed-Loop Control for Wind Farms. Since the control logic can be changed without modifying SCADA, it is easy to respond to changes. The developed modular control system was evaluated as a lab test and confirmed to operate smoothly. Through future research, the experiment will be conducted by applying a modular control system to the actual wind farm.

  • Modular BOMs are typically used in TWO-Level Master Production Schedule. To solve the problems of Modular BOM generation and efficient DB construction, we proposed Value Clustering Method. Based upon Where-Used matrix of products and components, VCM is the method to find out module by generating product family group value, product value, and component value. We also proposed method to find out information about Modules, algorithms to find out Modules that show Alternative Usage Pattern, and method to find out Modules used in a given product. We also compared the DB creation method by Value Clustering Method and by conventional method. We compared the size of DB in both methods. We mathematically proved that the proposed method is doing better as the size and complexity of product family gets larger and more complicated.

  • The initial development plans for the six reactor designs, soon after the release of Generation IV International Forum (GIF) TRM in 2002, were characterized by high ambition [1]. Specifically, the sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) and very-high temperature reactor (VHTR) gained significant attention and were expected to reach the validation stage by the 2020s, with commercial viability projected for the 2030s. However, these projections have been unrealized because of various factors. The development of reactor designs by the GIF was supposed to be influenced by events such as the 2008 global financial crisis, 2011 Fukushima accident [2, 3], discovery of extensive shale oil reserves in the United States, and overly ambitious technological targets. Consequently, the momentum for VHTR development reduced significantly. In this context, the aims of this study were to compare and analyze the development progress of the six Gen IV reactor designs over the past 20 years, based on the GIF roadmaps published in 2002 and 2014. The primary focus was to examine the prospects for the reactor designs in relation to spent nuclear fuel burning in conjunction with small modular reactor (SMR), including molten salt reactor (MSR), which is expected to have spent nuclear fuel management potential.

  • 현대전의 모자이크전을 수행하기 위한 다중임무 모듈형 함정의 획득 필요성이 증대되고 있고, 이 모듈형 함정에는 국내연구개발한 장비/체계 뿐만 아니라 해외 구매한 유무인복합체계를 함께 탑재해야 하는 상황이다. 다중임무 모듈형 시제함을 성공적으로 설계/건조하고 적기 전력화하기 위해서는 제한된 공간과 시간에서 유연하게 설치할 수있도록 신기술 적용을 필요로 한다. 하지만 기존의 용접(welding) 설치 방식은 안전상의 문제 때문에 설계/건조에 융통성을 제한하고 있음은 물론 결함 및 보완사항을 시정하는데 소요되는 비용과 시간이 과대하다는 문제점을 내재하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 이러한 측면에서 유연성을 제공할 수 있도록 선진해군에서 개발/적용된 차세대 설치 장치 현황과 한국 함정에 적용한 현장 실증 결과를 소개한다.

  • Electrochemical deionization (EDI) offers continuous demineralization at higher water recovery rates (>90%), compared with mixed bed ion exchange, and without the use of chemical regenerants and the associated production of saline waste water. Although EDI technology has been used in some power generation applications, its wider application requires the satisfactory resolution of outstanding capital cost and performance issues. This paper reports on the field evaluation of a new cost-effective EDI technology in a power generation application. The E-Cell System$^{TM}$, which became commercially available in the fourth quarter of 1996, consists of a rugged, modular system, based on a new high-performance EDI stack. Starting in May 1996, a 100 gpm modular EDI pilot system, rated for operation at 100 psi, was evaluated at the TVA Brown's Ferry Nuclear Plant. The feed consisted of Reverse Osmosis (RO) permeate with a conductivity of 4-7 $\mu$S/cm. The pilot system reliably produced 17.8-18.0 M$\Omega$.cm water under design operating conditions, independent. Silica levels were reduced from ca. 50 ppb to 4 ppb, while TOC levels were reduced from ca. 120 ppb to 30 ppb.

  • An updated Lagrangian finite element analysis with automatic remeshing scheme is applied to the three-dimensional hot extrusion through landless square dies. In the remeshing procedure, it is very difficult that the meshes are generated automatically with consideration of physical characteristics. In the presented study, the mesh generation is accomplished by modular concept. The generated meshes by modular concept have advantages, especially for three-dimensional problems, such as economized computational time and consideration of physical characteristic. In the problem, orifice shapes of square die are divided into two for the extrusion of solid sections. The orifice adaptive modules are developed for each type and the numerical examples are carried out for each type.

듀얼 필드 모듈러 곱셈을 지원하는 몽고메리 곱셈기 (Montgomery Multiplier Supporting Dual-Field Modular Multiplication)

  • 모듈러 곱셈은 타원곡선 암호 (elliptic curve cryptography; ECC), RSA 등의 공개키 암호에서 중요하게 사용되는 산술연산 중 하나이며, 모듈러 곱셈기의 성능은 공개키 암호 하드웨어의 성능에 큰 영향을 미치는 핵심 요소가 된다. 본 논문에서는 워드기반 몽고메리 모듈러 곱셈 알고리듬의 효율적인 하드웨어 구현에 대해 기술한다. 본 논문의 모듈러 곱셈기는 SEC2 ECC 표준에 정의된 소수체 GF(p)와 이진체 GF(2k) 상의 11가지 필드 크기를 지원하여 타원곡선 암호 프로세서의 경량 하드웨어 구현에 적합하도록 설계되었다. 제안된 곱셈기 구조는 부분곱 생성 및 가산 연산과 모듈러 축약 연산이 파이프라인 방식으로 처리하며, 곱셈 연산에 소요되는 클록 사이클 수를 약 50% 줄였다. 설계된 모듈러 곱셈기를 FPGA 디바이스에 구현하여 하드웨어 동작을 검증하였으며, 65-nm CMOS 표준셀로 합성한 결과 33,635개의 등가 게이트로 구현되었고, 최대 동작 클록 주파수는 147 MHz로 추정되었다.

Scheme for Reducing Harmonics in Output Voltage of Modular Multilevel Converters with Offset Voltage Injection

  • This paper proposes a new THD reduction algorithm for modular multilevel converters (MMCs) with offset voltage injection operated in nearest level modulation (NLM). High voltage direct current (HVDC) is actively introduced to the grid connection of offshore wind powers, and this paper deals with a voltage generation technique with an MMC for wind power generation. In the proposed method, third harmonic voltage is added for reducing the THD. The third harmonic voltage is adjusted so that each of the pole voltage magnitudes maintains a constant value with a maximum number of (N+1) levels, where N is the number of sub-modules per arm. By using the proposed method, the THD of the output voltage is mitigated without increasing the switching frequency. In addition, the proposed method has advantageous characteristics such as simple implementation. As a part of this study, this paper compares the THD results of the conventional method and the proposed method with offset voltage injection to reduce the THD. In this paper, simulations have been carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, and the proposed method is implemented by a HILS (Hardware in the Loop Simulation) system. The obtained results show agreement with the simulation results. It is confirmed that the new scheme achieved the maximum level output voltage and improved the THD quality.

Securing the Information using Improved Modular Encryption Standard in Cloud Computing Environment

  • All aspects of human life have become increasingly dependent on data in the last few decades. The development of several applications causes an enormous issue on data volume in current years. This information must be safeguarded and kept in safe locations. Massive volumes of data have been safely stored with cloud computing. This technology is developing rapidly because of its immense potentials. As a result, protecting data and the procedures to be handled from attackers has become a top priority in order to maintain its integrity, confidentiality, protection, and privacy. Therefore, it is important to implement the appropriate security measures in order to prevent security breaches and vulnerabilities. An improved version of Modular Encryption Standard (IMES) based on layered modelling of safety mechanisms is the major focus of this paper's research work. Key generation in IMES is done using a logistic map, which estimates the values of the input data. The performance analysis demonstrates that proposed work performs better than commonly used algorithms against cloud security in terms of higher performance and additional qualitative security features. The results prove that the proposed IMES has 0.015s of processing time, where existing models have 0.017s to 0.022s of processing time for a file size of 256KB.

  • 뱀형 모듈라 로봇은 모듈을 일련의 형태로 연결하여 구성한 것으로, 다양한 환경에 대해서 강인성을 가지고 있고, 모듈 일부의 고장에도 이동할 수 있는 장점을 가진다. 그러나 이동 제어 방법이 어렵고, 아직까지 효율적이고 다양한 이동법의 개발이 미비한 편이다. 본 연구에서는 뱀형 로봇의 이동제어를 위하여 GA(Genetic Algorithm)기반의 위상생성 방식과 임의의 궤적 생성방식을 비교하고, 이를 확장하여 일부 모듈만의 선택에 따른 영향을 분석하기 위해서 GA를 통한 모듈 선택 실험을 수행하였다. KMC사의 뱀형 로봇을 대상으로 먼저 webots 시뮬레이터 상에서 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 환경을 구축하고, 위의 GA 기반 이동 생성 실험들을 수행하였다.
