There exists a clear need to monitor the performance of civil structures over their operational lives. Current commercial monitoring systems suffer from various technological and economic limitations that prevent their widespread adoption. The wires used to route measurements from system sensors to the centralized data server represent one of the greatest limitations since they are physically vulnerable and expensive from an installation and maintenance standpoint. In lieu of cables, the introduction of low-cost wireless communications is proposed. The result is the design of a prototype wireless sensing unit that can serve as the fundamental building block of wireless modular monitoring systems (WiMMS). An additional feature of the wireless sensing unit is the incorporation of computational power in the form of state-of-art microcontrollers. The prototype unit is validated with a series of laboratory and field tests. The Alamosa Canyon Bridge is employed to serve as a full-scale benchmark structure to validate the performance of the wireless sensing unit in the field. A traditional cable-based monitoring system is installed in parallel with the wireless sensing units for performance comparison.
By advent of NNC(Neural Network Chip), it is possible that process in parallel and discern the importance of signal with learning oneself by experience in external signal. So, the design of general purpose operation unit using VHDL(VHSIC Hardware Description Language) on the existing FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) can replaced EN(Expert Network) and learning algorithm. Also, neural network operation unit is possible various operation using learning of NN(Neural Network). This paper present general purpose operation unit using hierarchical structure of EN. EN of presented structure learn from logical gate which constitute a operation unit, it relocated several layer. The overall structure is hierarchical using a module, it has generality more than FPGA operation unit.
A naphtha reforming process treats the feed naphtha for the production of BTX and high octane gasoline. In this paper, the development of NAFOS (Naphtha Reformer Steady-State Simulator), which is the efficient tool for the wide range of reforming process studies, is presented. NAFOS system is based on the sequential modular approach and composed of unit computation routines, physical properties data base, numerical routines, flowsheet convergence routine and user interfaces for input-output control. The developed NAFOS system has been tested by computation of the UOP Platforrming process. Simulation results of NAFOS corresponded with that of established general purpose simulator (ASPEN PLUS), and faster for the same simulation case.
It is proved that if G is a direct sum of countable abelian $p$-groups and R is a special selected commutative unitary highly-generated ring of prime characteristic $p$, which ring is more general than the weakly perfect one, then the group of all normed units V (RG) modulo G, that is V (RG)=G, is a direct sum of countable groups as well. This strengthens a result due to W. May, published in (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 1979), that treats the same question but over a perfect ring.
In many continuous speech recognition systems, phoneme is used as a basic recognition unit However, the coarticulation generated among neighboring phonemes makes difficult to recognize phonemes consistently. This paper proposes allophone as an alternative recognition unit. We have classified each phoneme into three different allophone groups by the location of phoneme within a syllable. For a recognition algorithm, time-delay neural network(TDNN) has been designed. To recognize all Korean allophones, TDNNs are constructed in modular fashion according to acoustic-phonetic features (e.g. voiced/unvoiced, the location of phoneme within a word). Each TDNN is trained independently, and then they are integrated hierarchically into a whole speech recognition system. In this study, we have experimented Korean plosives with phoneme-based recognition system and allophone-based recognition system. Experimental results show that allophone-based recognition is much less affected by the coarticulation.
It is difficult to detect a small-scale leakage in a nuclear power plant (NPP) quickly and take appropriate action. Delaying these procedures can have adverse effects on NPPs. In this paper, we propose leak flow rate prediction using the bidirectional gated recurrent unit (Bi-GRU) method to detect leakage quickly and accurately in small-scale leakage situations because large-scale leak rates are known to be predicted accurately. The data were acquired by simulating small loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCA) or small-scale leakage situations using the modular accident analysis program (MAAP) code. In addition, to improve prediction performance, data were collected by distinguishing the break sizes in more detail. In addition, the prediction accuracy was improved by performing both LOCA diagnosis and leak flow rate prediction in small LOCA situations. The prediction model developed using the Bi-GRU showed a superior prediction performance compared with other artificial intelligence methods. Accordingly, the accurate and effective prediction model for small-scale leakage situations proposed herein is expected to support operators in decision-making and taking actions.
