  • Although the STEP modularization is the major development methodology for STEP Application Protocol, there have been few studies on the STEP Modularization in Korea. The necessity of STEP Modularization research has been raised continuously. In addition, the importance became larger and larger because most of newly developing APs, including AP241, are developed using modularization approach. The object of this study is to investigate the basic structure and contents of AEC facilities related Application Modules using STEP Modularization. This study examines 1) the technical analysis regarding STEP Modularization, 2) application modules development regarding civil engineering elements of AP241; Aec_faciliteis_classification", "Aec_civil_item", and "Aec_civil_componet", 3) the developed application modules verification, and 4) the implementation methodology suggestion for application modules and modular AP.

  • The passive safety systems (PSSs) within water-cooled reactors are meticulously engineered to function autonomously, requiring no external power source or manual intervention. They depend exclusively on inherent natural forces and the fundamental principles of reactor physics, such as gravity, natural convection, and phase changes, to manage, alleviate, and avert the release of radioactive materials into the environment during accident scenarios like a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). PSSs are already integrated into such operating commercial reactors as the Advanced Pressurized Reactor-1000 MWe (AP1000) and the Water-Water Energetic Reactor-1200 MWe (WWER-1200) are adopted in most of the upcoming small modular reactor (SMR) designs. Examples of water-cooled SMR PSSs are the passive emergency core-cooling system (ECCS), passive containment cooling system (PCCS), and passive decay-heat removal system, the designs of which vary based on reactor system-design requirements. However, understanding the accident-event progression and phases of a LOCA is pivotal for adopting a specific PSS for a new SMR design. This study covers the accident-event progression for direct vessel injection (DVI) small-break loss-of-coolant accident (SB-LOCA), associated physics phenomena, knowledge gaps, and important figures of merit (FOMs) that may need to be evaluated and assessed to validate thermal-hydraulics models with an available experimental dataset to support new SMR design and development.

  • In this paper, we present a Web-enabled product data sharing system for the support of RPD (Rapid Product Development) process by incorporating STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) with Web technology such as VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language), SGML (Structured Generalized Markup Language) and Java. Extreme competition makes product life cycle short by incessantly deprecating current products with a brand-new one, and thus urges enterprises to devise a new product faster than ever. In this environment, an RPD process with effective product data sharing system is essential to outstrip competitors by speeding up the development process. However, the diversity of product data schema and heterogeneous systems make it difficult to exchange the product data. We chose STEP as a neutral product data schema and Web as an independent exchange environment to overcome these problems. While implementing our system, we focused on the support of STEP AP 203 UoF (Units of Functionality) views to efficiently employ STEP data models that are maximally normalized, and therefore very cumbersome to handle. Our functionality-oriented UoF view approach can increase users'appreciation since it facilitates the modular usage of STEP data models. This can also enhance the accuracy of product data. We demonstrate that our view approach is applicable to the configuration control of mechanical assemblies.

  • As modern megalopolises become more complex and huge, convenience and safety of citizens are main components for a welfare state. In order to make safe society, telemetrics technology, which remotely measures the information of target system using electronic devices, is an essential component. In general, telemetrics technology consists of USN (ubiquitous sensor network) based on a wireless network, smart sensor, and SoC (system on chip). In the smart sensor technology, the following two problems should be overcome. Firstly, because it is very difficult for transducer manufacturers to develop smart sensors that support all the existing network protocols, the smart sensor must be independent of the type of networking protocols. Secondly, smart sensors should be modular so that a faulty sensor element can be replaced without replacing healthy communication element. To solve these problems, this paper investigates the feasibility of an IEEE 1451 based ZigBee smart sensor system. More specifically, a smart sensor for large network coverage has been developed using ZigBee for active telemetrics.
