  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the change in modes of expression represented in fashion illustrations between the 1910s and the 1990s. 639 fashion illustrations were analyzed by content analysis and by qualitative analysis in five aspects. Typical traits in the modes of expression infashion illustrations in each period were described. The outstanding transformation in modes of expression from "before'70s" to " after'70s" were confirmed. The findings support two hypothesis: that modes of expression in fashion illustrations evolve and that changing modes of expression in fashion illustrations is a reflection of "spirit of the times".uot;spirit of the times".uot;.

  • The graphic novel is seemed different from comics in two aspects, visual expression and narrative value. However, they are ambiguous standards, so it needs to research each works of graphic novel deeper. Then this paper studied both of visual expression and narrative in Craig Thompson's "Habibi" that has been recognized a fine graphic novel. As the research about how the modes of expression that an American author choose on purpose to represent an arab female are related with narrative, it will get the point of narrative strategy that graphic novel can have potentially. So It studied new modes of expression as focusing on imagination of arab letters and woman growth-narrative by using Gayle Rubin's 'traffic in women' theory, and how it was related with modes of expression in graphic novel. This paper will be helpful for broadening spectrum of expression in graphic novel as comics media having own narrative form and studying graphic narrative potential.

  • Fed-batch fermentations were conducted to produce human lipocortin-I (LC1), a potential anti-inflammatory agent, from recombinant Sacchromyces cerevisiae carrying a galactose-inducible expression system. The cell growth, expression level of LC1, and the plasmid stability were investigated under various LC1 induction modes performed by three different galactose feeding strategies. Galactoe was fed to induce the expression of LCl from the beginning (initial induction) of culture or when the cell concentration reached 120 OD (mid-phase induction) or 300 OD (late induction). Among the three galactose-induction modes tested, the initial induction mode yielded the best result with respect to a final expression level of LC1. Fedbatch fermentation with initial induction mode produced LC1 at a conentration of 220 mg/l, which corresponded to 1.38- and 1.53-fold increases over those produced by mid-phase and late induction modes.

  • This study aimed to identify today's religious fashion motifs as elements for design development by examining the expression modes such as religious motifs in contemporary fashion. Methodologically, the study conducted literature review and empirical analysis of pictures and articles in domestic and foreign fashion collection magazines and other related data available on the internet and analyzed the collections of 1990 through 2009 with a focus on Christianity, Buddhism and Islam. As a result, this study identified two expression modes of religious motifs in the contemporary fashion. The first expression mode was to employ the forms of religious costumes and their associated images. The second one was to take on religious symbols and their associated images.

  • In the task of continuous dimension emotion recognition, the parts that highlight the emotional expression are not the same in each mode, and the influences of different modes on the emotional state is also different. Therefore, this paper studies the fusion of the two most important modes in emotional recognition (voice and visual expression), and proposes a two-mode dual-modal emotion recognition method combined with the attention mechanism of the improved AlexNet network. After a simple preprocessing of the audio signal and the video signal, respectively, the first step is to use the prior knowledge to realize the extraction of audio characteristics. Then, facial expression features are extracted by the improved AlexNet network. Finally, the multimodal attention mechanism is used to fuse facial expression features and audio features, and the improved loss function is used to optimize the modal missing problem, so as to improve the robustness of the model and the performance of emotion recognition. The experimental results show that the concordance coefficient of the proposed model in the two dimensions of arousal and valence (concordance correlation coefficient) were 0.729 and 0.718, respectively, which are superior to several comparative algorithms.

  • The most serious difficulty in using the finite element method is the appearance of the so-called spurious, nonphysical modes. We have proposed the finite element formulation of the variational expression in the three-component magnetic field based on Galerkin's method. In this approach, the divergence relation H is satisfied and spurious modes does not appear and finite-element solutions agree with the exact solutions.

  • We present a study of evolutionary changes in expression of actin genes among closely related sea urchin species that exhibit different modes of early development. For this purpose, polyclonal antisera raised against peptides from the carboxyl terminus of the HeCyI cytoskeletal actin of Heliocidaris erythrogramma were used. H. erythrogramma is a direct developing sea urchin that proceeds from embryonic to adult stages without an intervening feeding larval stage. Expression patterns of the CyI actin isoform were compared with those of Heliocidaris tuberculata and to a related sea urchin Strongylocentrotus purpuratus, which both produce a feeding pluteus larval stage. The CyI actin of all three species is expressed in the same cell types. However, its expression patterns have been changed with reorganization of early cell lineage differentiation, which is apparent among the three species. Thus. evolutionary changes in CyI actin gene expression patterns are correlated with not only phylogenetic relationship, but developmental mode. The implication of this observation is that evolutionary changes in expression patterns of histospecific genes may underlie the emergence of novel developmental processes.

  • The base shear and the veritcal distribution of shears along the height of a building are two fundamental measures that define the design seismic load. But the method specified in Korean building code does not give an appropriate distribution for buildings of tall or longer period because it roughly account for the contributions of the higher modes. several methods to give a better distribution of seismic forces have been proposed. But they have not been introduced into the seismic codes yet probably because they cannot solve all the above-mentioned problems. This paper deals with the distribution of lateral seismic forces along the height of a building to account for the contribution of the higher modes. After reviewing some existing distributions in seismic codes and literatures moment-resisting frames with various stories were studied by modal analysis for a wide range of fundamental period and the stiffness ratio of the buiding. As a result of the analysis a new expression for the distribution of seismic forces is proposed and compared with those of some codes and dynamic analysis.

  • This study used the hypothetical path model to investigate individual traits(attachment, reciprocal relationship, and self-esteem), situational evaluation(justification, and intention) and jealousy level in adolescents. Subjects were 853 7th, 9th, 11th grade students in the city of Daegu. Results showed that scores of girls were higher than boys on self-reported and peer-reported jealousy level, attachment, reciprocal relationship, adaptive expression and non-adaptive expression. Scores of boys were higher than girls for self-esteem, justification. Self-reported jealousy level was affected by situation evaluation(justification and intention) and attachment. Peer-reported jealousy level was affected by reciprocal relationship. Jealousy expression modes were affected by self-reported jealousy level and attachment.

  • While many astrophysical disks are vertically stratified and obey a polytropic equation of state, most studies on gravitational instability (GI) of flattened systems consider isothermal, razor-thin disks by taking vertical averages of disk properties. We investigate local GI of rotating pressure-confined polytropic disks with resolved vertical stratification by performing linear stability analysis. We find that the GI of vertically-stratified disks is in general a combination of conventional razor-thin Jeans modes and incompressible modes. The incompressible modes that dominate in the limit of the maximal disk compression require surface distortion and are an unstable version of terrestrial water waves. Disks with a steeper equation of state are found to be more Jeans unstable because they tend to have a smaller vertical scale height as well as a steeper temperature gradient corresponding to lower pressure support. GI depends more sensitively on the vertical temperature than density distribution. The density-weighted, harmonic mean, rather than the simple mean, of the adiabatic sound speed well describes the dispersion relation of horizontal modes, and thus is appropriate in the expression for Toomre Q stability parameter of razor-thin disks. We generalize Q into vertically-stratified disks, and discuss astrophysical application of our work.
