A Study on Assimilation and Transplantation of Public Housing at the Tiong Bahru Estate in Singapore from the 1930s to the 1950s (1930년대에서 1950년대까지 싱가포르 티옹 바루 단지에서 공공주택의 동화와 이식에 관한 연구)

  • Early 20th century Singapore was faced with the problem of overcrowding. The attendant problems of a rapid increase in population density, namely the lack of proper housing and sanitation, resulted in the issue of an appropriate residential environment emerging as an important task in urban planning. It was necessary to construct housing estates in order to solve this issue. At that time, the British colonial government attempted to transplant modern technology into the construction process of a residential complex system. However, Singapore's climate and traditional lifestyle made it impossible to apply the British modern system in a straightforward manner, and in the process, a number of transformations emerged. With a specific focus on the Tiong Bahru estate, one of Singapore's representative public housing projects, from the 1930s through the 1950s, this study intends to look at the way in which such residential estates were assimilated into local surroundings, and the effect of the transplantation of British concepts of modern housing theory. Therefore, the study is divided into an examination of the estate both before and after the turning point of World War II. This study confirms that the difference between the pre-war and post-war planning strategies for the Tiong Bahru estate were made according to the concept of 'open space.'

  • Tiliacora racemosa Colebr. belongs to the family Menispermaceae, the biggest storehouse of diphenylbisbenzylisoquinoline (DBBI) alkaloids. Exhaustive chemical processing of the root of T. racemosa by the application of modern separation techniques yielded a DBBI alkaloid which was identified as tiliacorine using sophisticated spectroscopic methods $(UV,\;IR,\;^1H-NMR,\;Mass)$. Tiliacorine possesses neuromuscular blocking activity. It produces a dose dependent hypotensive effect in rats and cats, and this effect is blocked by atropine.

  • In November of 1994, The Seoul Metropolitan Government celebrates its sixth centennial anniversary of becoming the capital city of Korea. In celebration of this anniversary, the Government decided to construct a plaza and sought design proposals in March of 1994. The authors collaborated on a design for the Time Capsule Plaza Competition and won fourth place among twenty-six entries. In the authors' design, the traditional oriental concept of time resonates within the site through the shape of a clock, a unique planting style, and an "Ancestral Tomb" which has a time capsule inside. The plaza is meant to be a symbol of the passage of time, the cycles of nature, and the repetitive actions of man. As for the spatial composition of the plaza, in accordance with the traditional Korean way of spatial arrangement, the plaza is divided into three parts: entry, primary, and secondary spaces. In reality, the plaza is created with the primary goal of providing modern outdoor space for people to rest and gather through the creation of pleasant environments and the introduction of traditional Korean garden elements.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of court type in Urban Detached Houses. This study deals with single-unit Korean houses designed by architects, which are included in architectural periodicals and books published since 1980. The results of this study, the types of houses court plan are obtained from the mass of site and plans shape. There are five types which are Backyard type, Corridor type, Atrium type, Inner garden type, and Dae-chyung-ma-roo type. And 9 plans of Dae-chyung-ma-roo type house are shown in this paper. Especially, Dae-chyung-ma-roo type is outdoor space with over 2 door of the room and that is extended indoor space.

  • This paper is to study the tendency of the development of the urban comprehensive park in the modern history of China, and take the urban comprehensive park of Wuhan as an example to study the local research through the literature.. In 1928, Wuhan Urban Comprehensive Park starting stage characteristics to the ideological education of the government as the center, in 1977 the policy of reform and opening to the outside world to entertainment center, ecology design point of view, the introduction of open space and urban plaza, to human centered design, application of science and technology. 2015 in Wuhan Urban Garden Expo theme can be seen in green life as the goal, through the design of urban comprehensive park ecology and human centered design, the application of science and technology development.

  • Tiliacora racemosa Colebr. belonging to the family Menispermaceae, is the biggest storehouse of diphenyl bisbenzylisoquinoline (DBBI) alkaloids. Exhaustive chemical processing of the root of T. racemosa by the application of modern separation techniques yielded a DBBI alkaloid which was identified as tiliacorine using sophisticated spectroscopic methods (UV, IR, $^1H-NMR$, MS). Haematological study with tiliacorine proved that there was no abnormal haematological results in comparison with the normal values. Chronic toxicity study with tiliacorine revealed that the alkaloid is devoid of any hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic action.

  • Tiliacora racemosa Colebr. belonging to the family Menispermaceae is the biggest store-house of diphenyl bisbenzylisoquinoline (DBBI) alkaloids. Exhaustive chemical processing of the root of T. racemosa by the application of modern separation techniques yielded a DBBI alkaloid which was identified as tiliacorine using sophisticated spectroscopic methods (UV, IR, $1^H-NMR$, Mass). Tiliacorine potentiated the sleeping time induced by standard hypnotics viz. chlorpromazine (CPZ), pentobarbitone (PB) and diazepam (DZ) in a dose dependent manner. Tiliacorine potentiated the analgesic action of standard analgesic agents viz., morphine and meperidine. It was also found to possess anti convulsive activity in the strychnine induced convulsion model.

  • The existing urban open space system of the German cities has an exellent frame, which is a result of the long history of its developing. The beginning time of that goes back to the end of the 18th century, as pri-vate gardens of feudal lords and the nobility became more and more public and public open space plannedwas appearing. Through the change from the feudal age to the civil society, the people's values on the urbanopenspace were growing. so that it had more social meanings.   • This paper discusses major strengths of tall buildings that distinguish them as sustainable solutions for the built environment. It sheds light on some of the key attributes of tall buildings as well as materials and technologies that could boost their performance environmentally, economically and technically as well as the natural habitats containing them. Tall buildings are portrait as major successful options for accommodating the ever increasing urban world population, with little negative impact on ecologies and environmental habitats worldwide. The role of tall buildings as 'vertical garden sub-cities' mitigating modern city problems of 'urban heat islands' and sprawling cities is explored. A few building examples as well as city developments are presented which represent the new generation of sustainable tall buildings that are setting trends for future projects incorporating innovations in materials and building systems and designs.

  • The Beijing Olympic Forest Park lies at the north end of the 2008 Olympic Plan, "Axis to Nature," and terminates the Olympic axis with a model ecosystem and scenic vistas. The park is a combination of urban green lung, ecological buffer, traditional Chinese park, Olympic park, native forest, and urban retreat. Chinese traditional park concepts, modern landscape architecture, and ecological techniques are merged into one project for the 29th Olympic Games and the citizens of Beijing.
