As a part of ${\square}$ project to discover Korean modern design and Korean modern an, this thesis is based on collaborated research with Musashino Art College about Teikoku Art College in Japan (renamed as Musashino Art School in 1948 and promoted as Musashino Art College in 1962) and Korean students of Teikoku Art College. In accepting modern art and design, Teikoku Art College. In accepting modern art and design, Teikoku Art College is important since most Koreans studied there to learn modern art and design. Especially, this focuses on activities of Korean students in Design (Zuan) program at Teikoku Art College and their relationships with professors to examine the influence of design study and acceptance through Teikoku Art College in Japan and the relationship with design education in Korean after the World War II. This research made it possible to renew the lists of 147 Korean students and 13 Korean students in Design (Zuan) program. Thus, this could be essential data to reconstruct the history of Korean modern design which has lacked basic documents.
There are numerous possible approaches to an investigation of the evolution of modern design. the intent of this study is to inquire into the history of 20th-century design as modern project. The French Revolution and the Industrial revolution at the end of 18th century brought about a wide spectrum of social and economic changes in Europe. The bourgeoisie took the leading part in these reforms and they attempted to establish the new aesthetic value of items of everyday use. The turning point in history led to the advent of modern design. This study attempts to provide a conceptual overview of significant stags in modern design's development this paper, it is hoped, will provide an opportunity to place modern design in a social and aesthetic context.
This paper aims to examine how the history of modern design has been described and what has been turned out to be shortcomings and limitations in its description. Traditionally, description of the history of modern design shows over generalization, which means that it suppresses or distorts various and individual designs, stressing on the mainstream of design history. Also it, focusing on some selected designs in hegemony, depicts their characteristics and relations too lineally, and regards a hero-centered history as universal or absolute one. As this tradition is generalized, we are ofter reminded of 'modern design' when touched by ‘design,’ and of colonial heroes and heroism when touched by ‘modern design.’ In this context, this paper will argue that we need to accept various design histories, keeping the subjective attitudes toward history.

As a cultural feature of, the relics of the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong are suitable design content for applying with sophisticated production and delicate molding laser cutting techniques. The purpose of this study is to develop modern bag designs using relics of the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong of Baekje using laser-cutting techniques. First, the historical background and meaning of Baekje's cultural content were explored. Third, based on prior research, the criteria for the development of bag design, from which eight bag design were developed that combine modern popularity and functionality utilizing Baekje cultural content and using laser-cutting techniques to apply the textile design developed by researchers in 2013 (modified to match laser-cutting techniques). The research results show that bag were clutch, tote, shoulder, and mini. Gold, silver, brown, beige, and navy colors were arranged, based on black/white contrast. Cow, lambskin, washed snakeskin, mesh, and Saffiano leather were used. For the pattern-applying technique, this study showed that a new digital technique, which is laser-cutting techniques could be combined with contemporary bag designs. Moreover, a bag design was developed that has a modern sense and functionality as well as Korean formativeness, which is significant.
The purpose of this study is to identify characteristic of Swedish modern furniture design through design works made by 8 prominent Swedish furniture designers during the 20th century. The study was completed through literature reviews and searching for web-sites of Swedish distinguished furniture companies. 8 furniture designers, eg. Erik Gunnar Asprund, Carl Malmsten, Josef Frank, John Kandell, Mats Theselius, Bruno Mathsson, $\AA$ke Axelsson and Yngve Extr$\ddot{o}$m were selected to identify the characteristics of Swedish modern furniture design. The results are as follows: 1) they pursuit simple and functional design beyond time. 2) they pursuit functionalism modified with Swedish traditional craftsmanship. 3) natural wood is considered as the most beloved material for the furniture together with other natural materials such as hemp, leather and cane. 5) easy maintenance and durability of the furniture are considered as important factors to make it last long. 6) ecological concept is fulfilled to meet environmental legislation.
This study started from my concern over maintenance and renewal of existing buildings and other seriously damaged Modern Architecture under the urban development. Above all, we must face up to reality of an increasing need of renovation of old buildings that are in its physical, social, and economical decrepitude. Currently, 25% of total buildings come under renovation period within 20 years, which means that we do not have enough time to decide the destiny of old buildings. In the city, there has been endless controversy over conversation and development. Recently the Cultural property Registration System made it possible a positive usage of non-designated cultural property with historical value. This very useful system renewed our perception on Modern Architecture as cultural property and also triggered peoples' interest in recreating new value beyond economical one. So we really need a balanced view that can bring into both growth of contemporary city and renewal use of Modern Architecture. Here, in this study I tried to solve that problem with Conversion Design and define what a realistic design way for them is. To get more reasonable result, I chose a factor analysis for 20 conversion projects in Japanese Modern Architecture. Conversion Design is a proper way to restore the identity of old buildings and the most effective way to sustainable use of Modern Architecture.
