Pharmacological studies and clinical practices have indicated that Radix Astragali, a dried root of Astragalus membranaceus possesses a lot of biological activities, including antioxidant, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic, tonic, diuretic, antimicrobial, antiviral, and immunological activities. These biological activities approved by the modern pharmacological studies are mainly due to the constituents of Astragalus membranaceus including polysaccharides, saponins, flavonoids, amino acids, and trace elements. In resent, the main constituents in the root part showing a lot of biological activities has been isolated also from the aboveground parts such as leaves and sprouts in our laboratory. However, the safety evaluation for the aboveground parts of Astragalus membranaceus should be checked before expanding their application as one of food. In the study, a 90-day rat oral gavage study has been conducted with the extracts from Astragalus membranaceus-above-ground parts at doses of 1000, 3000, and 5000mg/kg/day. The following endpoints were evaluated: clinical observations, body weight, gross and microscopic pathology, clinical chemistry, and hematology. Based on the analysis of these endpoints, it was estimated that NOEL (no observed effect level) for male rats and NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level) for female rats are 5000mg/kg/day of the water-extracts from Astragalus membranaceus-aboveground parts.

Since protecting the environment became a major issue in modern society, an increasing number of individuals have engaged in lifestyles of health and sustainability (LOHAS). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of restaurant and LOHAS images on customer satisfaction and loyalty. Particularly, this study analyzes the incremental information content of LOHAS image in the relationship between restaurant image and customer satisfaction/loyalty. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to customers of casual-dining restaurants in three major cities (i.e., Seoul, Daegu, and Busan) in South Korea. The empirical findings suggest significant incremental information content of LOHAS image beyond general restaurant image in explaining customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Producing tools for actively meeting social needs in a radical changing society due to the development of modern technology has been shifted from physical ability to intelligent ability. The prominence of educating creativity is perceived as a good preparation in order to deal with them. Considered that assessment which is systematic activity to collect, analyze, diagnose, and judge information of a series of instruction practices is means to impart evidence and feedback of teaching learning practices, education and assessment is placed on reciprocal relationship. Nevertheless, there has been some tendency of neglect of assessment, comparing education for upbringing creativity. In this paper model of pencil and paper problem is discussed focusing on the sub-components of creativity and problem solving as one of the variety of means to extend mathematical creativity.

The modern society longing for the convenience of up-to-date technology, there are attempts of miniaturization and high reliance of power equipments in the effectiveness aspect of urban area's usage of space while requiring more electrical energy than now. Consequently, paper used to the Neral Network for a forcasting conservation system. A neral network is powerful asta modeling tool that is able to capture and represent complex input/output relationships. The true power and advantage of neral networks lies in their ability to learn these relationships directly from the data being modeled. Traditional linear models are simply inadequate when it comes to modeling data that contains non-linear characteristics. Form results of this study, the Neral Network is will play an important role for insulation diagnosis system of real site GIS and power eqipment using $SF_6$ gas.

Purpose : This purpose of this study is to research basic principles, treatment and kinds of manual therapy of Tuina. Methods : This is a literature study with books and articles. Results : Tuina as a treatment technique with a long history was called by various names. As a term Tuina appears, the technical books and widespread treatments were performed. In modern times, safety was emphasized from chemical and biological side effects of medications, according to this tendency alternative medicine was on the rise. Conclusion : Tuina has a sufficient clinical treatment history and comes into the spotlight as an excellent treatment based on the academic system of oriental medicine.

Recently, the automotive industry has been introduced to ISO 26262 in November 2011 to address the necessity of safety risk from sensor to actuator by providing guidance in the form of requirements and processes. The malfunctioning behaviour of these systems could have significant impact on the safety of humans and/or the environment. Most of the modern automobiles are equipped with embedded electronic systems which include lots of Electronic Controller Units (ECUs), electronic sensors, signals, bus systems and coding. Due to the complex application in electrical, electronics and programmable electronics, the need to carry out detailed safety analyses which focuses on the potential risk of malfunction is crucial for automotive systems. In this paper, the international trends on pre and post introduction of ISO 26262 through publications will be analyzed as well as to take a glimpse in the activities for implementing this standard by the automotive manufacturers. The issues and challenges which have been occurring from implementing this standard also will be highlighted.

The Korean peninsula, located between the vast Chinese mainland and Japan, has a unique cultural background that goes back five thousand years. In ancient times, the region was deeply influenced by Chinese culture, and traditional medicine in Korea was no exception. The Korean character, HAN GUL (24 alphabets), was invented at in the early 1400s by The Great King Sejong (1397-1450) of the Chosun dynasty. But few changes were made to traditional medicines for about 500 years thereafter. At the start of the 20th century, missionaries from western countries introduced new concepts and techniques of medicine. During the last century, there was enormous development in modern medical sciences. Even today, however, natural medicine -including folk medicine (or traditional Chinese medicine) - plays an important role in Korean health care. In this paper, we will review and discuss traditional Korean medicines as it has evolved over the past three thousand years.

Recently, the terror frequently has taken place for unspecified individuals as modern society is complicated. Especially, in case of a subway carriage fire as Daegu subway fire, because smoke spread path usually coincide with passenger's evacuation path, it will reduce visibility and can cause fatalities by asphyxiation. This study performs not only fire simulation with CFAST V6 but also evacuation simulation with EXODUS V4 for the purpose of taking measures for passengers's life safety in subway fire. As a result of evacuation simulation without fire, evacuation times are 36 s for EXODUS V4 and simple hand calculation, and when fire is occurred fire, 101 persons evacuated in 32 s. Therefore, a countermeasure of evacuation in subway carriage fire is required to repression of fire and emergency exit.

The purposes of this study are to understand the international competitiveness of modern higher education and to search the tasks for strengthening international competitiveness of Korean higher education. I reviewed domestic and foreign trends for higher education and then analyzed the statistical status of Korea's higher education. And I proposed tasks for strengthening international competitiveness of Korean higher education. These included university specialization from an international perspective, securing excellent research resources, revitalizing international education cooperation, fair quality management of higher education institutions, learner-centered higher education reform. Subsequently it is necessary to systematically select the factors of international competitiveness of higher education and to propose concrete plans for improving international competitiveness of higher education.

Curved glued laminated timber (glulam) is rapidly coming into the domestic modern timber frame buildings and predominant in building construction. The radial stress is frequently occurred in curved beams and is a critical design parameter in curved glulam. Three models, Wilson equation, Exact solution and Approximation equation were introduced to determine the radial stress of curved glulam under pure bending condition. It is obvious that radial stress distribution between small radius and large radius was different due to slight change of neutral plane location to center line. If the beam design with extremely small radius, it should be considered to determine the exact location of maximum radial stress. The current standard KSF 3021 was reviewed and would be considered some adjustment determining the optimum radius in curved glulam. Current design principle is that the stress factor is given by the curvature term only in constant depth of the beam, but like tapered or small radius of beams, the stress factor by Wilson equation was underestimated. So current design formula should be considered to improvement for characterizing the radial stress factor under pure bending condition.
