In this paper, to assess the performance of a multi-span simply supported RC bridge, the dynamic characteristics of the bridge were measured and determined by structural health monitoring and resilient assessment via operational modal analysis as well as FE modeling. Supporting finite element (FE) models were created and analyzed according to the design drawings. This study used 2D plane monitoring of locations of hole in the infill wall and used 3D health monitoring and resilient assessment. From the results of 3Dsymmetric frame, if the frame is unsymmetrical, the used model can lead to the reduction in the internal forces. The recommendations from this study is from some discrepancies observed between 2D and 3D models, if possible 3D model should be used in analyzing the real frames.
The ratcheting behavior was studied experimentally for Z2CND18.12N elbow piping under cyclic bending and steady internal pressure. Dozens of cyclic plasticity models for structural ratcheting responses simulations were used in the paper. The four models, namely, Bilinear (BKH), Multilinear (MKIN/KINH), Chaboche (CH3), were already available in the ANSYS finite element package. Advanced cyclic plasticity models, such as, modified Chaboche (CH4), Ohno-Wang, modified Ohno-Wang, Abdel Karim-Ohno and modified Abdel Karim-Ohno, were implemented into ANSYS for simulating the experimental responses. Results from the experimental and simulation studies were presented in order to demonstrate the state of structural ratcheting response simulation by these models. None of the models evaluated perform satisfactorily in simulating circumferential strain ratcheting response. Further, improvement in cyclic plasticity modeling and incorporation of material and structural features, like time-dependent, temperature-dependent, non-proportional, dynamic strain aging, residual stresses and anisotropy of materials in the analysis would be essential for advancement of low-cycle fatigue simulations of structures.
This paper predicts the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with a precast strip of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). In the first phase, ultimate load capacity of preloaded and strengthened RC beams by UHPFRC was predicted by using various analytical models available in the literature. RC beams were preloaded under static loading approximately to 70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load of control beams. The models such as modified Kaar and sectional analysis predicted the ultimate load in close agreement to the corresponding experimental observations. In the second phase, the famous fatigue life models such as Papakonstantinou model and Ferrier model were employed to predict the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection. The models were used to predict the life of the (i) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different pre-loadings (70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load) under static loading and (ii) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different preloading cycles under fatigue loading. In both the cases precast UHPFRC strip of 10 mm thickness is attached on the tension face. It is found that both the models predicted the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection very close to the experimental values. It can be concluded that the models are found to be robust and reliable for cement based strengthening systems also. Further, the Wang model which is based on Palmgren-Miner's rule is employed to predict the no. of cycles to failure and it is found that the predicted values are in very good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations.

In this paper, a general method for the automatic search for Strut-and-Tie (S&T) models representative of possible resistant mechanisms in reinforced concrete elements is proposed. The representativeness criterion here adopted is inspired to the principle of minimum strain energy and requires the consistency of the model with a reference stress field. In particular, a highly indeterminate pin-jointed framework of a given layout is generated within the assigned geometry of the concrete element and an optimum truss is found by the minimisation of a suitable objective function. Such a function allows us to search the optimum truss according to a reference stress field deduced through a F.E.A. and assumed as representative of the given continuum. The theoretical principles and the mathematical formulation of the method are firstly explained; the search for a S&T model suitable for the design of a deep beam shows the method capability in handling the reference stress path. Finally, since the analysis may consider the structure as linear-elastic or cracked and non-linear in both the component materials, it is shown how the proposed procedure allows us to verify the possibilities of activation of the design model, oriented to the serviceability condition and deduced in the linear elastic field, by following the evolution of the resistant mechanisms in the cracked non-linear field up to the structural failure.

This study presents an ensemble learning based Bayesian model updating approach for structural damage diagnosis. In the developed framework, the structure is initially decomposed into a set of substructures. The autoregressive moving average (ARMAX) model is established first for structural damage localization based structural motion equation. The wavelet packet decomposition is utilized to extract the damage-sensitive node energy in different frequency bands for constructing structural surrogate models. Four methods, including Kriging predictor (KRG), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), support vector regression (SVR), and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), are selected as candidate structural surrogate models. These models are then resampled by bootstrapping and combined to obtain an ensemble model by probabilistic ensemble. Meanwhile, the maximum entropy principal is adopted to search for new design points for sample space updating, yielding a more robust ensemble model. Through the iterations, a framework of surrogate ensemble learning based model updating with high model construction efficiency and accuracy is proposed. The specificities of the method are discussed and investigated in a case study.

Structural tests often involve a large amount of complicated information. Data models can be used to efficiently organize the information. This paper briefly describes a data model for structural tests including hybrid tests, performed by the Real-Time Multi-Directional (RTMD) facility at the ATLSS Center of Lehigh University in America. The RTMD facility is an equipment site within the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES). The data model is called the Lehigh Model. An overview of classes and attributes of the Lehigh Model is presented, and the Lehigh Model is compared with other data models to show its benefits for structural testing.
Structural robustness refers to the ability of a structure to avoid disproportionate consequences to the original cause. Currently attentions focus on the concepts of structural robustness, and discussions on methods of robustness based structural design are rare. Firstly, taking basis in robust $H_{\infty}$ control theory, structural robustness is assessed by $H_{\infty}$ norm of the system transfer function. Then using the SIMP material model, robustness based design of grid structures is formulated as a continuum topology optimization problem, where the relative density of each element and structural robustness are considered as the design variable and the optimization objective respectively. Generalized elitist genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimization problem. As examples, robustness configurations of plane stress model and the rectangular hyperbolic shell model were obtained by robustness based structural design. Finally, two models of single-layer grid structures were designed by conventional and robustness based method respectively. Different interference scenarios were simulated by static and impact experiments, and robustness of the models were analyzed and compared. The results show that the $H_{\infty}$ structural robustness index can indicate whether the structural response is proportional to the original cause. Robustness based structural design improves structural robustness effectively, and it can provide a conceptual design in the initial stage of structural design.
Neural networks are explored as an alternative to a regres-sion model for prediction of the number of daily household vehicular trips. This study focuses on contrasting a neural network model with a regression model in term of variable selection as well as the appli-cation of these models for prediction of extreme observations, The differences in the models regarding data transformation variable selec-tion and multicollinearity are considered. The results indicate that the neural network model is a viable alternative to the regression model for addressing both messy data problems and limitation in variable structure specification.

This study was carried out to file up structural design data for optimizing Pleurotus eryngii growing houses. Design data are including current farm status of Pleurotus eryngii growing houses in the aspect of structural configuration as well as environmental conditions to be controlled and maintained inside. A structural analysis was performed for the on-farm structures as well as some structures modified and suggested through field survey and analysis. The results are summarized as follows. According to the results of status analysis, Pleurotus eryngii growing houses were categorized as arch-roofed simple type and sandwich panel type. Though the size of Pleurotus eryngii cultivation facilities were considerably diverse, the basic dimensions of Pleurotus eryngii cultivation facilities showed relatively similar pattern: more or less of 20m of length, $6.6\~7.0m$ of width, $4.6\~5.0m$ of peak height, $1.2\~1.6m$ of bed width, and 4 layers of bed. In the aspect of spatial use of cultivation facilities, suggested models were shown to be mostly reasonable in the aspect of heating and cooling, micro-meteorological stability, land use efficiency per unit floor area, etc.. Especially, the standard models suggested so far were thought to be not efficient in its surface area and spatial volume per unit floor area as well as its uneffective structural design in the area around ceiling. In the results of structural analysis for the models suggested through this study by using those section frames to be found on farms, the panel type structures of both single span and double span were estimated to be over designed, whereas arch-roofed pipe houses were mostly found to be under-designed.
The present study aims to determine the structural response of full scaled rectangular columns under both of vertical and lateral loads using numerical methods. In the study, the composite columns considering full concrete filled circular steel tube (FCFRST) and concrete filled double-skin rectangular steel tube (CFDSRST) section types are numerically modelled using ANSYS software. Vertical and lateral loads are applied to models to assess the structural response of the composite elements. Also similar investigations are done for reinforced concrete rectangular (RCR) columns to compare the results with those of composite elements. The analyses of the systems are statically performed for both linear and nonlinear materials. In linear static analyses, both of vertical and lateral loads are applied to models as only one step. However in nonlinear analyses, while vertical loads are applied to model as only one step, lateral loads are applied to systems as step by step. The displacement and stress changes in some critical nodes and sections and contour diagrams are reported by graphs and figures. At the end of the study, it is demonstrated that the nonlinear models reveal more accurate result then those of linear models. Also, it is highlighted that composite columns provide more and more safety, ductility compared to reinforced concrete column.
