As an extension of a previous work by the authors (Song and Esogbue, 2006), a new algorithm for automated modeling of nonstationary seasonal time series is presented in this paper. Issues relative to the methodology for building automatically seasonal time series models and periodic time series models are addressed. This is achieved by inspecting the trend, estimating the seasonality, determining the orders of the model, and estimating the parameters. As in our previous work, the major instruments used in the model identification process are correlograms of the modeling errors while the least square method is used for parameter estimation. We provide numerical illustrations of the performance of the new algorithms with respect to building both seasonal time series and periodic time series models. Additionally, we consider forecasting and exercise the models on some sample time series problems found in the literature as well as real life problems drawn from the retail industry. In each instance, the models are built automatically avoiding the necessity of any human intervention.

This research is to develop a simulation framework to gauge the mission effectiveness of the rotorcraft system that will be a part of Korean future combat system. The rotorcraft system comprises of many subsystems that are very time-consuming and tedious to model. Each subsystem and its characteristics have been modeled using component-based modeling techniques, which enhances its reusability. The entire system is then constructed from the individually modeled component, which significantly reduces the modelling time. The mission effectiveness of the rotorcraft system is simulated using the developed models, and the output indicates that the methodology proposed in this study is useful, which will be suitable for the modeling and simulation of Korean future combat system.
A methodology for jointed rock mass characterization starts with a research based on geological data and tests in order to define the geotechnical models used to support the decision about location, orientation and shape of cavities. Afterwards a more detailed characterization of the rock mass is performed allowing the update of the geomechanical parameters defined in the previous stage. The observed results can be also used to re-evaluate the geotechnical model using inverse methodologies. Cases of large underground structures modeling are presented. The first case concerns the modeling of cavities in volcanic formations. Then, an application to a large station from the Metro do Porto project developed in heterogeneous granite formations is also presented. Finally, the last case concerns the modeling of large cavities for a hydroelectric powerhouse complex. The finite element method and finite difference method software used is acquired from Rocscience and ITASCA, respectively.

In this paper, we implement the XML modeling and data modeling by the class diagram that is made by the use case after drawing out the sequence diagram. For the XML modeling, the guiding line to map the UML classes on the XML document will be presented. Then, an example to generate the ie DTD from the UML classes will be shown under the presented guiding line. In the data modeling, the transformation method from the In classes into the object-oriented database also will be proposed. Finally, we will give an example developed by the Proposed transformation method.

It is an important issue to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical warfare through modeling and simulation(M&S) technology. In this paper, we propose the M&S methodology and environment for the chemical warfare for effectiveness analysis. In detail, for modeling perspective, we propose three fundamental component models according to their behaviors, which are a chemical weapon, a detecting device system, and an engaging unit system. Among proposed models, the chemical weapon and the detecting device system models are represented by engineering-level system models, whereas the engaging unit system model are described as an engagement-level system model. For simulation perspective, we apply a hybrid simulation environment using High Level Architecture (HLA) to interoperate with the proposed engineering and engagement-level models. The proposed M&S methodology and environment enables to evaluate the effectiveness of the chemical warfare system considering the doctrines, the performance of device or weapon, and weather factors. To verify the efficiency of the proposed methodology and environment, we experimented three categorized case studies, which are related with those considering factors.

In this talk, a reduced-order modeling methodology based on centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVT's)is introduced. CVT's are special Voronoi tessellations for which the generators of the Voronoi diagram are also the centers of mass (means) of the corresponding Voronoi cells. The discrete data sets, CVT's are closely related to the h-means clustering techniques. Even with the use of good mesh generators, discretization schemes, and solution algorithms, the computational simulation of complex, turbulent, or chaotic systems still remains a formidable endeavor. For example, typical finite element codes may require many thousands of degrees of freedom for the accurate simulation of fluid flows. The situation is even worse for optimization problems for which multiple solutions of the complex state system are usually required or in feedback control problems for which real-time solutions of the complex state system are needed. There hava been many studies devoted to the development, testing, and use of reduced-order models for complex systems such as unsteady fluid flows. The types of reduced-ordered models that we study are those attempt to determine accurate approximate solutions of a complex system using very few degrees of freedom. To do so, such models have to use basis functions that are in some way intimately connected to the problem being approximated. Once a very low-dimensional reduced basis has been determined, one can employ it to solve the complex system by applying, e.g., a Galerkin method. In general, reduced bases are globally supported so that the discrete systems are dense; however, if the reduced basis is of very low dimension, one does not care about the lack of sparsity in the discrete system. A discussion of reduced-ordering modeling for complex systems such as fluid flows is given to provide a context for the application of reduced-order bases. Then, detailed descriptions of CVT-based reduced-order bases and how they can be constructed of complex systems are given. Subsequently, some concrete incompressible flow examples are used to illustrate the construction and use of CVT-based reduced-order bases. The CVT-based reduced-order modeling methodology is shown to be effective for these examples and is also shown to be inexpensive to apply compared to other reduced-order methods.

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generation from remotely sensed imagery is crucial for a variety of mapping applications such as ortho-photo generation, city modeling. High resolution imaging satellites such as SPOT-5, IKONOS, QUICK-BIRD, ORBVIEW constitute an excellent source for efficient and economic generation of DEM data. However, prerequisite knowledge in the areas of sensor modeling, epipolar resampling, and image matching is required to generate DEM from these high resolution satellite imagery. From the above requirements, epipolar resampling emerges as the most important factors. Research attempts in this area are still in high demand and short supply. Another cause that adds to the complication of the problem is that most studies of DEM generation from IKONOS scenes have been based on rational function model. In this paper, we proposed a new methodology for DEM generation from satellite scenes using parallel projection model which is sensor independent, makes it possible for sensor modeling and epipolar resampling by only few control points. The performance and feasibility of the developed methodology is evaluated through real dataset captured by IKONOS.

Stateflow is a useful system modeling tool, which is frequently used in industry. But Stateflow has defects when users are trying to describe consecutive behaviors or a system's temporal behaviors. Timing diagram, on the other hand, is a widely used tool of explaining behaviors of a hardware system in electronics. This tool has a merit when specifying consecutive behaviors and temporal behaviors of a system. Thus, this paper suggests $Stateflow_{TD}$, the unified modeling methodology in Stateflow domain integrating Stateflow with Timing diagram in order to improve the shortcomings of Stateflow. This paper not only explains a technique of integrating both a Stateflow model and Timing diagram models, and describes advantages of what $Stateflow_{TD}$ formalism has, but also shows its convenience using two example systems.
This study is to develop the consequence modeling methodology for quantitative prediction of the hazard distance(or toxic buffer distance) for two-phase flow continuous releases from the pressurized chlorine saturated liquid storage tank of the chemical plant facilities. The source term modeling was peformed by the refined analysis method based on USEPA's guideline and SuperChems model self-calculation, respectively. The hazard distance was predicted for STEL, IDLH and ERPGs(ERPG-2 and ERPG-3) concentrations being used as the toxic regultaion concentration in hazard estimation. To use as hazard estimation guideline for the establishment of the emergency response planning, the effects of source characteristics and meteorological vaiations on the hazard distance was especially considered for ERPG-2 concentration.
