  • Purpose This study reviews technology acceptance research in the information system area and consumer behavior research in the marketing area, sets characteristics of convergence products, personality of consumers and communication channels as main concepts and demonstrates their effects on 'relative level of attraction' and 'intent to adoption. Design/methodology/approach The survey was conducted against potential consumers who have the intent to purchase electric communication media products that provides a variety of functions and service, such as a smart TV, a tablet PC and a smart watch. All items were adapted from previous literature and revised as appropriate the purpose of this study and measured on a 7-point Likert scale with answer choices ranging from "strongly disagree" (1) to (7) "strongly agree." Totally, 300 respondents participated in the survey. Out of the 276 respondents, incomplete or invalid 24 were discarded. With them, SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 20.0 for structural equation modeling were used for the analysis. Findings Main findings are as followed;- First, it is found that 'interrelationship of technology' and 'functional diversification' of convergence products has positive effects on relative level of attraction. Second, perceived behavior control has significant effects on the intent to adoption convergence products. Third, communication through mass media has positive effects on making potential consumers feel attraction about products while there is no relationship with the intent to a. On the other hands, it is demonstrated that there is no relationship influential relationship between communication through interpersonal channels and relative level of attraction while communication through interpersonal channels has significant effects on the intent to adoption.

  • Background: Cigarette per day (CPD) use is a key smoking behaviour indicator. It reflects smoking intensity which is directly proportional to the occurrence of tobacco induced cancers. Self reported CPD assessment in surveys may suffer from digit bias and under reporting. Estimates from such surveys could influence the policy decision for tobacco control efforts. In this context, this study aimed at identifying underlying factors of digit bias and its implications for Global Adult Tobacco Surveillance. Materials or Methods: Daily manufactured cigarette users CPD frequencies from Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) - India data were analyzed. Adapted Whipple Index was estimated to assess digit bias and data quality of reported CPD frequency. Digit bias was quantified by considering reporting of '0' or '5' as the terminal digits in the CPD frequency. The factors influencing it were identified by bivariate and logistic regression analysis. Results: The mean and mode of CPD frequency was 6.7 and 10 respectively. Around 14.5%, 15.1% and 15.2% of daily smokers had reported their CPD frequency as 2, 5 and 10 respectively. Modified Whipple index was estimated to be 226.3 indicating poor data quality. Digit bias was observed in 38% of the daily smokers. Heavy smoking, urban residence, North, South, North- East region of India, less than primary, secondary or higher educated and fourth asset index quintile group were significantly associated with digit bias. Discussion: The present study highlighted poor quality of CPD frequency data in the GATS-India survey and need for its improvement. Modeling of digit preference and smoothing of the CPD frequency data is required to improve quality of data. Marketing of 10 cigarette sticks per pack may influence CPD frequency reporting, but this needs further examination. Exploring alternative methods to reduce digit bias in cross sectional surveys should be given priority.

  • This study examines the potential restoration of abandoned channels of the Mangyeong River in South Korea. To analyze the morphological changes and equilibrium conditions, a flow duration analysis was performed to obtain the discharge of 255 m3/s with a recurrence interval of 1.5 year. It is a gravel-bed stream with a median bed diameter of 36 mm. The reach-averaged results using HEC-RAS showed that the top width is 244 m, the mean flow depth is 1.11 m, the width/depth ratio is very high at 277, the channel velocity is 1.18 m/s, and the Froude number is also high at 0.42. The hydraulic parameters vary in the vicinity of the three sills which control the bed elevation. The total sediment load is 6,500 tons per day and the equivalent sediment concentration is 240 mg/l. The Engelund-Hansen method was closer to the field measurements than any other method. The bed material coarser than 33 mm will not move. The methods of Julien-Wargadalam and Lacey gave an equilibrium channel width of 83 m and 77 m respectively, which demonstrates that the Mangyeong River is currently very wide and shallow. The planform geometry for the Mangyeong River is definitely straight with a sinuosity as low as 1.03. The thalweg and mean bed elevation profiles were analyzed using field measurements in 1976, 1993 and 2009. The measured profiles indicated that the channel has degraded about 2 m since 1976. The coarse gravel material and large width-depth ratio increase the stability of the bed material in this reach.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify $PM_{2.5}$ sources and to estimate their contributions to the border of Yongin-Suwon area, based on the analysis of the $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration and the associated inorganic elements, ions and carbon components. The contribution of $PM_{2.5}$ sources were estimated by using a positive matrix factorization (PMF) model to identify air emission sources. For this study, $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected from May, 2007 to April, 2008. The inorganic elements were analyzed by an ICP-AES. The ionic components in $PM_{2.5}$ were analyzed by an Ie. The carbon components were also analyzed by DRI/OGC analyzer. After performing PMF modeling, a total of 12 sources were identified and their contributions were quantitatively estimated. The contributions from each emission source were as follows: 11.3% from oil combustion source, 3.4% from bus/highway source, 5.8% from diesel vehicle source, 4.7% from gasoline vehicle source, 8.8% from biomass burning source, 15.1 % from secondary sulfate, 5.2% from secondary nitrate source, 13.4% from industrial related source, 4.1% from Cl-rich source, 19.6% from soil related source, 1.0% from aged sea salt, and 7.4% from coal combustion source, respectively. This study provides basic information on the major sources affecting air quality, and then it will help to effectively control $PM_{2.5}$ in this study area.

  • This paper presents a stiffness analysis method for a low-DOF parallel manipulator, which takes into account of elastic deformations of joints and links. A low-DOF parallel manipulator is defined as a spatial parallel manipulator which has less than six degrees of freedom. Differently from the case of a 6-DOF parallel manipulator, the serial chains in a low-DOF parallel manipulator are subject to constraint forces as well as actuation forces. The reaction forces due to actuations and constraints in each limb can be determined by making use of the theory of reciprocal screws. It is shown that the stiffness model of an F-DOF parallel manipulator consists of F springs related to the reciprocal screws of actuations and 6-F springs related to the reciprocal screws of constraints, which connect the moving platform to the fixed base in parallel. The $6{times}6$ stiffness matrix is derived, which is the sum of the stiffness matrices of actuations and constraints. The six spring constants can be precisely determined by modeling the compliance of joints and links in a serial chain as follows; the link can be considered as an Euler beam and the stiffness matrix of rotational or prismatic joint can be modeled as a $6{times}6$ diagonal matrix, where one diagonal element about the rotation axis or along the sliding direction is zero. By summing the elastic deformations in joints and links, the compliance matrix of a serial chain is obtained. Finally, applying the reciprocal screws to the compliance matrix of a serial chain, the compliance values of springs can be determined. As an example of explaining the procedure, the stiffness of the Tricept parallel manipulator has been analyzed.

  • This work covers an important point of the benchmark released by the expert group on Uncertainty Analysis in Modeling of Light Water Reactors. This ambitious benchmark aims to determine the uncertainty in light water reactors systems and processes in all stages of calculation, with emphasis on multi-physics (coupled) and multi-scale simulations. The Gesellschaft für Anlagen und Reaktorsicherheit methodology is used to propagate the thermal-hydraulic uncertainty of macroscopic parameters through TRACE5.0p3/PARCSv3.0 coupled code. The main innovative points achieved in this work are i) a new thermal-hydraulic model is developed with a highly-accurate 3D core discretization plus an iterative process is presented to adjust the 3D bypass flow, ii) a control rod insertion occurrence -which data is obtained from a real PWR test- is used as a transient simulation, iii) two approaches are used for the propagation process: maximum response where the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis is performed for the maximum absolute response and index dependent where the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis is performed at each time step, and iv) RESTING MATLAB code is developed to automate the model generation process and, then, propagate the thermal-hydraulic uncertainty. The input uncertainty information is found in related literature or, if not found, defined based on expert judgment. This paper, first, presents the Gesellschaft für Anlagen und Reaktorsicherheit methodology to propagate the uncertainty in thermal-hydraulic macroscopic parameters and, then, shows the results when the methodology is applied to a PWR reactor.

  • Background: Colorectal cancer mortality has started to decrease in several developed countries in Asia. The current study aimed to present the long-term trends in colorectal cancer mortality in Korea using joinpoint analysis and age-period-cohort modeling. Materials and Methods: The number of colorectal cancer deaths and the population for each 5-year age group were obtained from Statistics Korea for the period 1984-2013 for adults 30 years and older. Joinpoint regression analysis was conducted to determine changes in trends in age-standardized mortality rates, and age-period-cohort analysis was performed to describe trends in colorectal cancer mortality using the intrinsic estimator method. Results: In men, the age-standardized mortality rate for colorectal cancer increased from 1984 to 2003, and the mortality rates stabilized thereafter, whereas the mortality rate of colorectal cancer in women has decreased since 2004. The age-specific mortality rate of colorectal cancer increased in both men and women over time, whereas decreases in the age-specific mortality rate in younger cohorts were observed. In the age-period-cohort analysis, old age and recent period were associated with higher mortality for both men and women. The birth cohort born after 1919 showed reduced colorectal cancer mortality in both men and women. Conclusions: Our study showed a recent decreasing trend in colorectal cancer mortality in women and a stable trend in men after 2003-2004. These changes in colorectal cancer mortality may be attributed to birth cohort effects.

  • In recently, using of steel reinforcements by reinforcing materials of the reinforced earth, micro-pile and root-pile etc,. is wide-spreading in the stabilizing control of cutting and embankment slopes, but the failure mechanism of reinforced earth as well as the effect of insert angles or types of reinforcement and others are not defined clearly. In this study, therefore heavy-duty direct shear tests were exercised on the reinforced soil and the non-reinforced soil, which was executed for research on the interaction of soil-reinforcement and theirs behavior. The hardness and softness and the standard sands were used for modeling of reinforced soil, the material constants for the computer simulation were estimated from the results of CD-Test. The effects of reinforcing and of friction increasing on the softness, area ratio of reinforcements is equal, were the better than them of the hardness, as well the reinforcing effects of shear strength without regard to the area ratio is much the same at $10^{\circ}$, insert angle of reinforced bar, differ from them of the existing study. Then, the results of numerical analysis showed that the behavior of reinforcements displayed bending resistance and shear resistance at $15^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the state of strain transfer was observed and the behavior of resistance mechanism on reinforcements presented almost the same them of landslides stabilizing pile.

  • Fine suspended solids (SS) induced into a reservoir after flood events play important ecological and water quality roles by presenting persistent turbidity and attenuating light. Thus the origin and physical features must be characterized to understand their transport processes and associated impacts, and for the establishment of watershed based prevention strategies. This study was aimed to characterize the physical properties of the SS sampled from Daecheong Reservoir and its upstream rivers during flood events. Extensive field and laboratory experiments were carried out to identify the turbidity-SS relationships, particle size distributions, settling velocity, and mineral compositions of the SS. Results showed that the turbidity-SS relationships are site-specific depending on the locations and flood events in the system. The turbidity measured within the reservoir was much greater than that measured in the upstream rivers for the same SS value. The effective diameters ($D_{50}$) in the rivers were in the range of $13.3{\sim}54.3{\mu}m$, while those in the reservoir were reduced to $2.5{\sim}14.0{\mu}m$ due to a fast settling of large particles in the rivers. The major minerals consisting of the SS were found to be Illite, Muscovite, Albite, and Quartz both in the rivers and reservoir. Their apparent settling velocities at various locations in the reservoir were in the range of 0.06~0.13 m/day. The research outcome provides a fundamental information for the fine suspended particles that cause persistent turbidity in the reservoir, and can be used as basic parameters for modeling study to search watershed based optimal control measures.

  • Glaucoma is an eye disease which is caused by abnormal high IOP (Intra Ocular Pressure). High IOP is caused by the aqueous humor which is produced consistently but not drained due to malfunction of the trabecular system which has a role of draining the aqueous humor into the venous system. Currently, there are three methods to treat glaucoma-using medicines, surgical operation, and using implant device. The first and second methods are not long acting, so the use of implants is increasing in these days in order to drain out the aqueous humor compulsory. However, though conventional implants have a capability of pressure regulation, they cannot maintain IOPs desired for different patients, and too much aqueous humor are usually drained, to cause hypotony. To solve these problems, it is needed to develop a new implant which is capable of controling the IOP actively and copes with personal difference of patients. An active glaucoma implant consists of the valve actuator, pressure sensor, controller, and power supply. In this paper, firstly, we make an analysis of the operation of a conventional implant using a bond graph and show defects and limitations of the conventional valve analytically. Secondly, we design and analyze a valve actuator considering actuation principles, resistance elements, control methods, and energy sources focused on power saving problem. Finally, using simulations the possibility of the proposed valve actuator is investigated.
