This paper discusses details of modeling and robust control of an AMB (active magnetic bearing) spindle, and part I presents a modeling and validation process of the AMB spindle. There are many components in AMB spindle : electromagnetic actuator, sensor, rotor, power amplifier and digital controller. If each component is carefully modeled and evaluated, the components have tight structured uncertainty bounds and achievable performance of the system increases. However, since some unknown dynamics may exist and the augmented plant could show some discrepancy with the real plant, the validation of the augmented plant is needed through measuring overall frequency responses of the actual plant. In addition, it is necessary to combine several components and identify them with a reduced order model. First, all components of the AMB spindle are carefully modeled and identified based on experimental data, which also render valuable information in quantifying structured uncertainties. Since sensors, power amplifiers and discretization dynamics can be considered as time delay components, such dynamics are combined and identified with a reduced order. Then, frequency responses of the open-loop plant are measured through closed-loop experiments to validate the augmented plant. The whole modeling process gives an accurate nominal model of a low order for the robust control design.

This paper proposes the modeling scheme of the Miniature Universal Testing Machine (MUTM) composed of 36 thin-beam-type bimorph PZTs and the control algorithm to minimize the residual vibration of the MUTM in the dynamic testing of specimens. In the operation of the MUTM, hysteresis, residual displacement and vibration of it are major issues. From the analysis of the MUTM behaviors, the hysteresis is described by the curving fitting scheme with the function of an input voltage. The dynamic characteristics of the MUTM are identified by the frequency domain modeling technique based on the experimental data. The interested bandwidth is focused on 125-315HZ for effective modeling and control. For the robust vibration control of the MUTM, the sliding mode control and the Kalman filter as observer are proposed. The paper also proposes the best input signal type to operate the MUTM effectively. The feasibility of the proposed modeling scheme and control algorithm are tested and verified experimentally.

A piezoelectric actuator yields hysteresis effect due to its composed ferroelectric. Hysteresis nonlinearty is neglected when a piezoelectric actuator moves with short stroke. However when it moves with long stroke and high frequency, the hysteresis nonlinearty can not be neglected. The hysteresis nonlinearty of piezoelectric actuator degrades the control performance in precision position control. In this paper, in order to improve the control performance of piezoelectric actuator, an inverse modeling scheme is proposed to compensate the hysteresis nonlinearty problem. And feedforward - feedback controller is proposed to give a good tracking performance. The Feedforward controller is inverse hysteresis model, Nueral network and PID control is used as a feedback controller. To show the feasibility of the proposed controller and hysteresis modeling, some experiments have been carried out. It is concluded that the proposed control scheme gives good tracking performance

Due to the increasing complexity to handle conflicts and interruptions caused by resource failures and rush orders, shop control is obliged to redesign its organization according to the changing demands of the manufacturing control. These demands are leading to the development of decentralization and gradually to their permanent optimization. As a result, a powerful modeling method which can be adapted efficiently is required. The use of agent theory enables specific modeling of the relevant shop planning activities. The planning activities are modeled in a so-called activity modeling through the definition of three classes of agents; Plan Agent, Manufacturing System Agent and Control Agent as well as the description of the cooperative relationship among these agents. On the basis of the activity model the agent-based shop control method is developed which emphasizes the distributed problem-solving and the cooperation with relevant agents.
Currently, a number of control points are required in order to achieve accurate geolocation of satellite images. Control points can be generated from existing maps or surveying, or, preferably, from GPS measurements. The requirement of control points increase the cost of satellite mapping, let alone it makes the mapping over inaccessible areas troublesome. This paper investigates the possibilities of modeling an entire imaging strip with control points obtained from a small portion of the strip. We tested physical sensor models that were based on satellite orbit and attitude angles. It was anticipated that orbit modeling needed a sensor model with good accuracy of exterior orientation estimation, rather then the accuracy of bundle adjustment. We implemented sensor models with various parameter sets and checked their accuracy when applied to the scenes on the same orbital strip together with the bundle adjustment accuracy and the accuracy of estimated exterior orientation parameters. Results showed that although the models with good bundle adjustments accuracy did not always good orbit modeling and that the models with simple unknowns could be used for orbit modeling.
The paper made a description of the method for numerical analysis and modeling of a proportional pressure control valve by bondgraph. The valve is a three port pressure regulator valve, consists of two subsystems; a proportional solenoid and a spool assembly. A purpose of this study is to analysis the dynamic characteristics of the valve using bondgraph method and to verified results that each of parameters has an effect on modeling. It considered the effect which the presence of solenoid, flow coefficient and non-linearity of resistance causes in the valve modeling. In particular, it is analyzed the effect that the solenoid interacted with modeling results and characteristics of the nonlinear resistance through orifice on the supply and discharge side of valve. Thus this paper described method to present nonlinear characteristics by bondgraph modeling method, so that we could know easily result that each parameters has an effect on the modeling.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an effective simulation modeling formalism for autonomous control systems, such as unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vehicles. The proposed simulation modeling formalism can be used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of autonomous control systems. Methods: The proposed simulation modeling formalism is developed by extending the classic DEVS (Discrete Event Systems Specifications) formalism. The main advantages of the classic DEVS formalism includes its rigorous formal definition as well as its support for the specification of discrete event models in a hierarchical and modular manner. Results: Although the classic DEVS formalism has been a popular modeling tool, it has limitations in describing an autonomous control system which needs to make decisions by its own. As a result, we proposed an extended DEVS formalism which enables the effective description of internal decisions according to its conditional variables. Conclusion: The extended DEVS formalism overcomes the limitations of the classic DEVS formalism, and it can be used for the effectiveness simulation of autonomous weapon systems.
Various solid particle materials are treated in the industrial processes including fixed-beds or moving grate beds, and modeling approaches have been widely applied to the processes to predict and evaluate their performance. For this study, the modeling approach was applied to iron ore sintering process with various improvement measures. Based on the previous modeling approach, the changes and effects of the improvement measures were discussed at the point of controlling the combustion environment in the bed.

Presented in the paper is a structured approach to modeling automated manufacturing system (AMS) in the form of an event graph. The proposed two-phase procedure for formal modeling is 1) reference modeling by schematic supervisory control modeling and 2) event graph transformation from supervisory control model. Also described is a formal model for a small-sized FMS in the form of an event graph.
