  • An adaptive predictive control method for SISO and MIMO plants is proposed. In this method, future predictions of process output based on a bilinear CARIMA model are used to calculate the control input. Also, a classical recursive adaptation algorithm, equation error method, is used to decrease the uncertainty of the process model. As a result of the application on distillation process, the ability of the set-point tracking and the disturbance rejection is acceptable to apply to the industrial distillation processes.

  • This paper deals with the control problem under nonlinear boiler systems with noise, and input constraints. MCMBPC(Multivariable Constrained Model-Based Predictive Controller) proposed by Wilkinson et al.[10,11] is used and nominal model is modified in this paper in order to applied to nonlinear boiler systems with feed-forward terms. The solution of the cost function optimization constrained on input and/or output variables is achieved using quadratic programming, via singular value decomposition(SVD). The controller designed is shown to satisfy the constraints and to have excellent tracking performance via simulation applied to nonlinear dynamic drum boiler turbine model for 16OMW unit.

  • In this paper, we propose cascade-form velocity controller for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The proposed controller consists of a sliding-mode controller (SMC) for the inner current control loop and a model-predictive controller (MPC) for the outer velocity control loop. With SMC, we can ensure that the current tracking error always converges to zero in finite time. The SMC is designed to track the desired currents. Additionally, with MPC, we can obtain the optimal velocity control input which minimizes the cost function. Constraint conditions for input and input variation are included in the MPC design. The simulation results are included to validate the performance of the proposed controller.

  • In this paper, we propose a sampled-data model predictive tracking control deign for leader-following control of multi-mobile robot system. The error dynamics of leader-following robots is modeled as a Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) model. Also, the Lyapunov function is presented to guarantee stability of the networked control system. Based on the stabilization condition using a quadratic Lyapunov function approach, model predictive sampled-data controller is designed. Finally, the leader-following control of multi mobile robots is simulated to show effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper deals with the problem of steering a group of mobile robots along a reference path while maintaining a desired geometric formation. To solve this problem, the overall formation is decomposed into numerous geometric patterns composed of pairs of robots, and the state of the geometric patterns is defined. A control algorithm for the problem is proposed based on the Nash equilibrium strategies incorporating receding horizon control (RHC), also known as model predictive control (MPC). Each robot calculates a control input over a finite prediction horizon and transmits this control input to its neighbor. Considering the motion of the other robots in the prediction horizon, each robot calculates the optimal control strategy to achieve its goals: tracking a reference path and maintaining a desired formation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is validated using numerical simulations.

  • The MPC (Model Predictive Control) is one of the techniques that can be used to control an unmanned vehicle. It predicts the future vehicle trajectory using the dynamic characteristic of the vehicle and generate the control value to track the reference path. If some obstacles are detected on the reference paths, the MPC can generate control value to avoid the obstacles imposing the inequality constraints on the MPC cost function. In this paper, we propose an obstacle modeling algorithm for MPC with inequality constraints for obstacle avoidance and a method to set selective constraint on the MPC for stable obstacle avoidance. Simulations with the field test data show successful obstacle avoidance and way point tracking performance.

  • LonWorks over IP (LonWorks/IP) virtual device network (VDN) is an integrated form of LonWorks device network and IP data network. LonWorks/IP VDN can offer ubiquitous access to the information on the factory floor and make it possible for the predictive and preventive maintenance on the factory floor. Timely response is inevitable for predictive and preventive maintenance on the factory floor under the real-time distributed control. The network induced uncertain time delay deteriorates the performance and stability of the real-time distributed control system on LonWorks/IP virtual device network. Therefore, in order to guarantee the stability and to improve the performance of the networked distributed control system the time-varying uncertain time delay needs to be compensated for. In this paper, under the real-time distributed control on LonWorks/IP VDN with uncertain time delay, a control scheme based on disturbance observer and ZPETC(Zero Phase Error Tracking Controller) phase lag compensator is proposed and tested through computer simulation. The result of the proposed control is compared with that of internal model controller (IMC) based on Smith predictor and disturbance observer. It is shown that the proposed control scheme is disturbance and noise tolerant and can significantly improve the stability and the tracking performance of the periodic reference. Therefore, the proposed control scheme is well suited for the distributed servo control for predictive maintenance on LonWorks/IP-based virtual device network with time-varying delay.

  • In this paper, we propose a new discrete-time predictive current controller for a PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The main objectives of the current controllers are to ensure that the measured stator currents tract the command values accurately and to shorten the transient interval as much as possible, in order to obtain high-performance of ac drive system. The conventional predictive current controller is hard to implement in full digital current controller since a finite calculation time causes a delay between the current sensing time and the time that it takes to apply the voltage to motor. A new control strategy in this paper is seen the scheme that gets the fast adaptation of transient current change, the fast transient response tracking and is proposed simplified calculation. Moreover, the validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulations and the simulation results will be verified the improvements of predictive controller and accuracy of the current controller.

  • This paper deals with predictive control methods of mobile robots for reference trajectory tracking control. Predictive control methods using predictive model are known as effective schemes that minimize the future errors between the reference trajectories and system states; however, the amount of real-time computation for the predictive control are huge so that their applications were limited to slow dynamic systems such as chemical processing plants. Lately with high computing power due to advanced computer technologies, the predictive control methods have been applied to fast systems such as mobile robots. These predictive controllers have some control parameters related to control performance. But these parameters have not been optimized. In this paper we employed the genetic algorithm to optimize the control parameters of the predictive controller for mobile robots. The improved performances of the proposed control method are demonstrated by the computer simulation studies.

  • Recent research suggests the various applications of Model Predictive Control on vehicle systems. In numerous cases, nonlinear tire models such as the Magic Formula, which are highly complex and are more detailed than necessary, are used. This paper presents a nonlinear tire model that excludes the region of negative slope but expresses the nonlinear properties of tire well enough for tracking the lane of a racing course. The proposed inverse tire model can also be used to calculate the slip angle from the tire force. Thus, the model can be utilized to design the Model Predictive Controller.
