Non oxide ceramics such as nitrides of transition metals have shown significant potential for future economic impact, in diverse applications in ceramic, aerospace and electronic industries, as refractory products, abrasives and cutting tools, aircraft components, and semi-conductor substrates amid others. Combustion synthesis has become an attractive alternative to the conventional furnace technology to produce these materials cheaply, faster and at a higher level of purity. However he process os highly exothermic and manifests complex dynamics due to its strongly non-linear nature. In order to develop an understanding of this process and to study the effect of operational parameters on the final outcome, numerical modeling is necessary, which would generated essential knowledge to help scale-up the process. the model is based on a system of parabolic-hyperbolic partial differential equations representing the heat, mass and momentum conservation relations. The model also takes into account structural change due to sintering and volumetric expansion, and their effect on the transport properties of the system. The solutions of these equations exhibit steep moving spatial gradients in the form of reaction fronts, propagating in space with variable velocity, which gives rise to varying time scales. To cope with the possibility of extremely abrupt changes in the values of the solution over very short distances, adaptive mesh techniques can be applied to resolve the high activity regions by ordering grid points in appropriate places. To avoid a control volume formulation of the solution of partial differential equations, a simple orthogonal, adaptive-mesh technique is employed. This involves separate adaptation in the x and y directions. Through simple analysis and numerical examples, the adaptive mesh is shown to give significant increase in accuracy in the computations.

The autogenous shrinkage of high-performance concrete is important in that it can lead the early cracks in concrete structures. The purpose of the present study is to explore the autogenous shrinkage of high-performance concrete with admixture and to derive a realistic equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage model of that. For this purpose, comprehensive experimental program has been set up to observe the autogenous shrinkage for various test series. Major test variables were the type and contents of admixture and water-cement ratio is fixed with 30%. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC with fly ash slightly decreased than that of OPC concrete, but the use of blast furnace slag increased the autogenous shrinkage. Also, the autogenous shrinkage of HPC is found to decrease with increasing shrinkage reduction agent and expansive additive. A prediction equation to estimate the autogenous shrinkage of HPC with admixture was derived and proposed in this study. The proposed equation show reasonably good correlation with test data on autogenous shrinkage of HPC with mineral and chemical admixture.
Prediction and control of nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission is of great interest in industry due to stricter environmental regulations. Herein, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for prediction of NOx emission. The framework includes pre-processing of data for training of neural networks and evaluation of the AI-based models. In this work, Long-Short-Term Memory (LSTM), one of the recurrent neural networks, was adopted to reflect the time series characteristics of NOx emissions. A decision tree was used to determine a time window of LSTM prior to training of the network. The neural network was trained with operational data from a heating furnace. The optimal model was obtained by optimizing hyper-parameters. The LSTM model provided a reliable prediction of NOx emission for both training and test data, showing an accuracy of 93% or more. The application of the proposed AI-based framework will provide new opportunities for predicting the emission of various air pollutants with time series characteristics.

In this study, multi-component blended concrete mix with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag according to 3 level of type of warter reduction agent (type of 0%, 8% and 16%) and 3 level of water-binder ratio (40%, 45% and 50%) was prepared for evaluation of effect of physical characteristics of concrete using multi-component blended binder according to warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent. In addition, concrete mix was carried out repetition test of three times in order to secure the reliability. As a result, compressive strength according to type of warter reduction agent was found that difference of strength was about 20% occurred, warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent was showed that a great influence on qualities of concrete. Therefore, reflected the effect of warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent, prediction model equations of compressive strength for multi-component blended concrete was proposed, it was found that more than 90% of the high correlation.
In this rarer, we introduce a new Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNNs)-like structure whose neuron is based on the Fuzzy Set-based Fuzzy Inference System (FS-FIS) and is different from that of FPNNs based on the Fuzzy relation-based Fuzzy Inference System (FR-FIS) and discuss the ability of the new FPNNs-like structurenamed Fuzzy Set-based Polynomial Neural Networks (FSPNN). The premise parts of their fuzzy rules are not identical, while the consequent parts of the both Networks (such as FPNN and FSPNN) are identical. This difference results from the angle of a viewpoint of partition of input space of system. In other word, from a point of view of FS-FIS, the input variables are mutually independent under input space of system, while from a viewpoint of FR-FIS they are related each other. In considering the structures of FPNN-like networks such as FPNN and FSPNN, they are almost similar. Therefore they have the same shortcomings as well as the same virtues on structural side. The proposed design procedure for networks' architecture involves the selection of appropriate nodes with specific local characteristics such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial that is constant, linear, quadratic, or modified quadratic functions being viewed as the consequent part of fuzzy rules, and a collection of the specific subset of input variables. On the parameter optimization phase, we adopt Information Granulation (IG) based on HCM clustering algorithm and a standard least square method-based learning. Through the consecutive process of such structural and parametric optimization, an optimized and flexible fuzzy neural network is generated in a dynamic fashion. To evaluate the performance of the genetically optimized FSPNN (gFSPNN), the model is experimented with using gas furnace process dataset.
The objective of this study was to obtain a better understanding of the delayed hydride cracking (DHC) of Zr-2.5Nb alloy. The DHC model has some defects: first, it cannot explain why the DHC velocity (DHCV) becomes constant regardless of an applied stress intensity factor, even though the stress gradient is affected by the applied stress intensity factor at the notch tip. Second, it cannot explain why the DHCV has a strong dependence on the method of approaching the test temperature by a cool-down or a heating-up, even under the same stress gradient, and third, it cannot predict any hydride size effect on the DHC velocity. The DHC tests were conducted on Zr-2.5Nb compact tension specimens with the test temperatures reached by a heating-up method and a cool-down method. Crack velocities were measured in hydrided specimens, which were cooled from solution-treatment temperatures at different rates by being furnace-cooled, water-quenched, and liquid nitrogen-quenched. The resulting hydride size, morphology, and distributions were examined by optical metallography. It was found that fast cooling rates, which produce very finely dispersed hydrides, result in higher crack growth rates. This different DHC behavior of the Zr-2.5Nb tube with the cooling rate after a homogenization treatment is due to the precipitation of the $\gamma$-hydrides only in the water-quenched Zr-2.5Nb tube. This experiment will provide supporting evidence that the terminal solid solubility of a dissolution (TSSD) of $\gamma$-hydrides is higher than that of $\delta$-hydrides.
There is a little scientific documentation reporting the stress, distribution to the edentulous mandible by different concepts of occlusal scheme. So, this study was to investigate the hypothesis that the magnitude and distribution of the occlusal stresses, transmitted through a mandibular complete denture base to the edentulous mandible, would be influenced by the lingualized occlusion. This investigation was performed to analyze the stresses induced in a three-dimensional photoelastic edentulous mandible, when a load is applied to the denture arranged into lingualized occlusion in centric relation, lateral and protrusive functional position. The mounted denture on a Dentatus Type ARO articulator was loaded in a pure vertical direction with 15kgs on the center of articulator in each case and the stresses were frozen into epoxy edentulous model at $127^{\circ}C$ in the stress freezing furnace. The stress-frozen epoxy models were sliced with diamond disc saw into 4mm thick. The slices were examined with a circular polariscope. The results were as follows: 1. In centric relation, the stresses were low at anteriors, and gradually increase to the premolar, molar area and highest at the first molar and gradually decrease from the second molar and lowest at the retromolar pad region. The lingual side showed higher stresses than labiobuccal side. 2. In lateral functional position, the working side showed higher stresses than the balancing side. In working side, the lingual side showed higher stresses than the buccal side and in balancing side, the buccal side showed higher stresses than the lingual side. 3. In protrusive position, stress distribution was symmetrical on the posteriors and the stresses were concentrated at the labial side of the anteriors.

3-D CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) work were carried out to investigate the combustion characteristics in a boiler depending on the variations in air supply condition. For the gas temperature, $O_2$, NO, SOx at the outlet of economizer, the predicted values were been compared with the measured data. With the verified CFD model, the effects of air flow rates through SOFA(Separated Over Fire Air) and CCOFA(Closed Coupled Over Fire Air) on the combustion behavior in a boiler were simulated, and the distributions of NOx and gas temperature were mainly compared each other. The change in SOFA air flow rate gave the more sensitive effect on NOx than that in CCOFA. The distributions of gas temperature at convection path are differed with the changes in SOFA and CCOFA flow rate, so the combustion modification such as yaw anlge adjustment are required to get an enhanced gas temperature distribution.
The effect of Re addition and solidification rate on the directional solidification behavior of Ni-Al model alloy has been investigated. Directional solidification (DS) were carried out using the modified Bridgman furnace with various solidification rates. The solid/liquid interface during directional solidification was preserved by quenching the specimen after the desired volume fraction of original liquid was solidified. The equilibrium partition coefficients of Al and Re Were estimated by measuring the compositions at the quenched solid/liquid interface. Then, the effect of Re addition on the elemental segregation behavior was carefully analyzed. The differential scanning calorimetry results showed that the Re addition results in increased ${\gamma}'$ solvus and freezing range of the alloy. It was also shown that the primary dendrite arm spacing gradually decreases with increasing the Re content, while the secondary dendrite arm spacing appears to be independent on the Re content. The compositional analyses clearly revealed that the segregation of Al increased with increasing the Re content and solidification rate, while that of Re was found to be independent on the solidification rate in the range of $10{\sim}100{\mu}m/s$ due to its sluggish diffusion rate in the Ni solid solution.

A stoichiometric mixture of evaporating materials for $CdIn_2S_4$ single crystal thin films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $CdIn_2S_4$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-Insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the Hot Wall Epitaxy (HWE) system. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CdIn_2S_4$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation. $E_g(T)=2.7116 eV-(7.74{\times}10^{-4} eV)T^2/(T+434)$. The crystal field and the spin-orbit splitting energies for the valence band of the $CdIn_2S_4$ have been estimated to be 0.1291 eV and 0.0248 eV, respectively, by means of the photocurrent spectra and the Hopfield quasicubic model. These results indicate that the splitting of the ${\Delta}so$ definitely exists in the ${\Gamma}_5$ states of the valence band of the $AgInS_2$/GaAs epilayer. The three photocurrent peaks observed at 10K are ascribed to the $A_1-$, $B_1-$, and C1-exciton peaks for n = 1.
