In this paper, a high precision track following control algorithm is proposed for micro electrostatic actuator considering of the application for hard disk drive. The micro electrostatic actuator proposed has nonlinear voltage-displacement characteristic in a working range of 0.8.mu.m and has uni-directional movement. Mid range reference and open-loop bias are proposed for the revision of negative position error, and inverse model for linearization.
First, in this paper we propose a new dead best control system design technique by which we can specify a transient response before the settling time. Though the resultant system has the same system configuration as Reference[1], that is realized by adapting the performance index which includes the term of the square of difference between specified and pracitical responses. Next, we state a technique which gives the dead beat control system robustness and construct a robust dead beat control system. Simulations of the proposed dead beat control and robust dead beat control systems show expected results.

In this paper, a generalized framework called as robust internal-loop compensator(RIC) is presented, and by using this, a structural design method of sliding of sliding mode controller is proposed. First, a general sliding mode controller is derived and a stabilizing control input is designed based on Lyapunov redesign for the system in the presence of uncertainty and disturbance. And adopting the internal model following control, RIC is proposed. Next, using the structural characteristics of the proposed RIC, disturbance attenuation characteristics are analyzed and the performance of the closed-loop system is predicted. Through this analysis, it is shown that if the control gain of RIC is increased by N times, the magnitude of error is reduced to its 1/N. the proposed method is verified through experiments using a high-precision positioning system and the performance is evaluated.

MANPro-based control is a novel control paradigm aimed at intelligent manufacturing systems on the basis of mobile agent-based negotiation process (MANPro). MANPro is a negotiation mechanism based on the agent-based control architecture and, especially, it adapts a mobile agent system called N-agent for the negotiation process. N-agent travels around the network of distributed manufacturing systems to acquire information, and it makes a decision for system control according to the obtained information. MANPro includes communication architecture and information architecture for intelligent shop floor control. MANPro also considers the following issues: (1) negotiation mechanism, (2) single-agent internal strategic policies, and (3) information model. Communication architecture concerns the first issue of the negotiation mechanism. It provides information exchanging mechanism with functional modules. In specific, N-agent is equipped with an intelligent reasoning engine with a built-in knowledge base. This reasoning engine is closely related to the single-agent internal strategic policies of the second issue. Finally, ontology-based information architecture addresses information models and provides a framework for information modeling on negotiation. In this paper, these three issues are addressed in detail and a framework of MANPro-based control is also proposed.

World practice is evidence of that computer systems of an intellectual support of medical activities bound up with examination of patients, their diagnosis, therapy and so on are the most effective means for attainment of a high level of physician\`s qualification. Such systems must contain large knowledge bases consistent with the modern level of science and practice. To from large knowledge bases for such systems it is necessary to have a medical ontology model reflecting contemporary notions of medicine. This paper presents a description of an observation ontology, knowledge base for the physician of general tipe, architecture, functions and implementation of problem independent shell of the system for intellectual supporting patient examination and mathematical model of the dialog. The system can be used by the following specialist: therapeutist, surgeon, gynecologist, urologist, otolaryngologist, ophthalmologist, endocrinologist, neuropathologist and immunologist. The system supports a high level of examination of patients, delivers doctors from routine work upon filling in case records and also automatically forms a computer archives of case records. The archives can be used for any statistical data processing, for producing accounts and also for debugging of knowledge bases of expert systems. Besides that, the system can be used for rise of medical education level of students, doctors in internship, staff physicians and postgraduate students.
The paper presented here covers the work associated with the flight control law design, ground based and in flight simulation and handling qualities assessment of the Fly-by-Wire type Aircraft (FBWA). The control law was designed for the most unstable aircraft configuration flight regime for the target aircraft (FBWA). The ground based simulation including math-model, real-time pilot-in-the-loop and iron bird simulation were used for validation of the control law before the experimental in-flight simulation on the IFS (In.Flight-Simulator) aircraft. The flight tests results showed that Level 1 handling qualities for the most unstable flight regime were achieved.

We discuss development of a simulator for automated manufacturing systems (AMSs) which have sophisticated automated material handling equipments and complicated work flows. The simulator is designed to satisfy the following requirements. A user should be able to easily configure or specify an AMS through a graphical user interface (GUI) and minimal data input. The user should be able to model diverse and complied control logic for automated material handling systems like automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, robot workcell systems and conveyor systems as well as complicated job flow program. Real time animation is desired. Finally, the simulator should be easily maintained and extended. To satisfy the requirements, we use an object-oriented paradigm for modeling, designing, and programming of the simulator. We use an object-oriented modeling framework to design the modeling elements library, and take the process interaction approach for scheduling processes and events. To model a user-defined diverse control logic, we also develop a script language and its interpreter. We explain design and implementation strategies. We implement the simulator using Visual C++ 4.2 and Open GL on Windows NT and the Windows95. Some modeling examples will be demonstrated.

A robust controller is proposed to design a flight autopilot for lateral motion control. The control system has two control loops in order to meet the performance and to maintain the stability-robustness for a nonsquare flight system with uncertain aerodynamic variations and disturbance. One is designed via linear quadratic Gaussian with loop transfer recovery(LQG/LTR) design methodology for the inner loop. The other is designed via proportional controller design method for the outer loop. To show the effectiveness of this control system, it is compared with the LQG/LTR control system for a square flight system and is analyzed for the performance/stability-robustness to model uncertainties and disturbance via wind gusts. It is found that the proposed control system has good heading command-following performance under allowable sideslip angle in spite of model uncertainties and disturbance.
As an adaptive control function generator, the CMAC (Cerebellar Model Arithmetic or Articulated Controller) based learning control has drawn a great attention to realize a rather robust real-time manipulator control under the various uncertainties. There remain, however, inherent problems to be solved in the CMAC application to robot motion control or perception of sensory information. To apply the CMAC to the various unmodeled or modeled systems more efficiently, It is necessary to analyze the effects of the CMAC control parameters an the trained net. Although the CMAC control parameters such as size of the quantizing block, learning gain, input offset, and ranges of input variables play a key role in the learning performance and system memory requirement, these have not been fully investigated yet. These parameters should be determined, of course, considering the shape of the desired function to be trained and learning algorithms applied. In this paper, the interrelation of these parameters with learning performance is investigated under the basic learning schemes presented by authors. Since an analytic approach only seems to be very difficult and even impossible for this purpose, various simulations have been performed with prespecified functions and their results were analyzed. A general step following design guide was set up according to the various simulation results.
Nowadays fuzzy logic in control applications is a well-recognized alternative, and this is thanks to its inherent advantages. Generalized type-2 fuzzy sets allow for a third dimension to capture higher order uncertainty and therefore offer a very powerful model for uncertainty handling in real world applications. With the recent advances that allowed the performance of general type-2 fuzzy logic controllers to increase, it is now expected to see the widespread of type-2 fuzzy logic controllers to many challenging applications in particular in problems of structural control, that is the case study in this paper. It should be highlighted that this is the first application of general type-2 fuzzy approach in civil structures. In the following, general type-2 fuzzy logic controller (GT2FLC) will be used for active control of a 9-story nonlinear benchmark building. The design of type-1 and interval type-2 fuzzy logic controllers is also considered for the purpose of comparison with the GT2FLC. The performance of the controller is validated through the computer simulation on MATLAB. It is demonstrated that extra design degrees of freedom achieved by GT2FLC, allow a greater potential to better model and handle the uncertainties involved in the nature of earthquakes and control systems. GT2FLC outperforms successfully a control system that uses T1 and IT2 FLCs.
