Structured modeling provides a formal mathematical framework, language, and computer-based environment for conceiving, representing, and manipulating a wide variety of models. It provides a natural framework for integrated modeling owing to its explicit representation power for computational dependencies among submodels. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to offer a systematic way of composing a structured model from submodels. In order to develop a systematic way, this paper discusses three key issues; (1) Genus structure of validated submodel, (2) Storing method of genus structure, and (3) Integration of genus structures to generate a new genus structure. To visualize the approach, a programming module is developed to implement the step-by-step integration.
Flow rate measurement uncertainties of the ultrasonic flow meter are generally influenced by many different factors, such as Reynolds number, flow distortion, turbulence intensity, wall surface roughness, velocity integration method along the acoustic paths, and transducer installation method, etc. Of these influencing factors, one of the most important uncertainties comes from the velocity integration method. In the present study, a optimization weighting factor method for 5-chord, which is given by a function of the chord locations of acoustic paths, is employed to obtain the mean velocity in the flow through a pipe. The power law profile is assumed to model the axi-symmetric pipe flow and its results are compared with the present weighting factor concept. For an asymmetric pipe flow, the Salami flow model is applied to obtain the velocity profiles. These theoretical methods are also compared with the previous Gaussian, Chebyshev, and Tailor methods. The results obtained show that for the fully developed turbulent pipe flows with surface roughness effects, the present weighting factor method is much less sensitive than Chebyshev and Tailor methods, leading to a better reliability in flow rate measurement using the ultrasonic flow meters.
Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to analyze the dynamic factors of the daily FX implied volatility based on the fractional integration methods focusing on long memory feature and structural changes. Design/methodology/approach - This paper uses the daily FX implied volatility data of the EUR-USD and the JPY-USD exchange rates. For the fractional integration analysis, this paper first applies the basic ARFIMA-FIGARCH model and the Local Whittle method to explore the long memory feature in the implied volatility series. Then, this paper employs the Adaptive-ARFIMA-Adaptive-FIGARCH model with a flexible Fourier form to allow for the structural changes with the long memory feature in the implied volatility series. Findings - This paper finds statistical evidence of the long memory feature in the first two moments of the implied volatility series. And, this paper shows that the structural changes appear to be an important factor and that neglecting the structural changes may lead to an upward bias in the long memory feature of the implied volatility series. Research implications or Originality - The implied volatility has widely been believed to be the market's best forecast regarding the future volatility in FX markets, and modeling the evolution of the implied volatility is quite important as it has clear implications for the behavior of the exchange rates in FX markets. The Adaptive-ARFIMA-Adaptive-FIGARCH model could be an excellent description for the FX implied volatility series
This study investigates how affects elicited by visual images in print ads are integrated to form a liking for the ads. Assuming a sequential rather than simultaneous processing of still-cut images, we adopt the 'think-aloud' method to capture consumers' spontaneous responses to visual images. We hypothesize that not only would consumers show mixed affects toward a still-cut visual image but that they would also integrate their serial affects heuristically rather than simply averaging the affects as suggested by the compensatory hypothesis. By comparing the effects of two contradictory affect integration hypotheses (i.e., peak-affect and mood-maintenance) with compensatory integration, using a single regression model, we found that peak-negative along with mood maintenance integration of serial affects for a print ad works best in the formation of ad liking. The results also support our initial premise that people can have mixed valence even toward a still-cut ad.

This paper is concerned with modified integration algorithm on the strain-space for rate and temperature dependent elasto-plastic constitutive relations in order to obtain more accurate results in numerical implementation. The proposed algorithm is integrated analytically using integration by part and chain rule and then is applied to the 2-stage Lobatto IIIA with second-order accuracy. It has advantage that is able to consider the convective stress rates on the yield surface of the strain-space. Also this paper is carried out the iteration procedure using the Newton-Raphson method to enforce consistency at the end of the step. And the performance of the proposed algorithm for rate and temperature dependent constitutive relation is illustrated by means of analysis of adiabatic shear bands.
In developing the avionics system, a system integration laboratory (SIL) is established to verify the function and interworking of individual components. In case of individual verification of SIL's components and system integration, a SIL model that simulates the function and interworking of each equipment is developed and used. A SIL model shall be pre-verified against all data defined in the interface control document (ICD) before interworking with the actual equipment and reverified even when the ICD changes or functions change. However, if the verification of the SIL model is performed manually, the verification of the individual SIL model takes considerable time. For this reason, selective regression tests are often performed to determine a impact of SIL models on ICD changes and some functional changes. In this paper, we designed SIL model verification automation method to perform regession test by reducing verification time of SIL model and verify the usefulness of verification automation design by developing SIL model verification automation tool.
The successful performance of any numerical geotechnical simulation depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical implementation of constitutive model used to simulate the stress-strain (constitutive) response of the soil. The corner stone of the numerical implementation of constitutive models is the numerical integration of the incremental form of soil-plasticity constitutive equations over a discrete sequence of time steps. In this paper a well known two-surface soil plasticity model is implemented using a generalized implicit return mapping algorithm to arbitrary convex yield surfaces referred to as the Closest-Point-Projection method (CPPM). The two-surface model describes the nonlinear behavior of coarse-grained materials by incorporating a bounding surface concept together with isotropic and kinematic hardening as well as fabric formulation to account for the effect of fabric formation on the unloading response. In the course of investigating the performance of the CPPM integration method, it is proven that the algorithm is an accurate, robust, and efficient integration technique useful in finite element contexts. It is also shown that the algorithm produces a consistent tangent operator $\frac{d\sigma}{d\varepsilon}$ during the iterative process with quadratic convergence rate of the global iteration process.
In this paper, a new identification method of the cascade control system is proposed which can overcome the weak points of Krishnaswamy and Rangaiah(1987)'s method. This new method consists of two steps. One is on-line process identification using the numerical integration to approximate the two process dynamics with a high order linear transfer function. The other is a model reduction technique to derive out low order transfer function(FOPTD or SOPTD) from the obtained high order linear transfer function to tune the controller using usual tuning rules. While the proposed method preserves the advantages of the Krishnaswamy and Rangaiah(1987)'s method, it has such a simplicity that it requires only measured input and output data and simple least-squares technique. Simulation results show that the proposed method can be a promising alternative in the identification of cascade control systems.
Finite element simulations of solid mechanics problems often involve the use of Non-Confirming Meshes (NCM) to increase accuracy in capturing nonlinear behavior, including damage and plasticity, in part of a solid domain without an undue increase in computational costs. In the presence of material nonlinearity and plasticity, higher-order variables are often needed to capture nonlinear behavior and material history on non-conforming interfaces. The most popular formulations for coupling non-conforming meshes are dual methods that involve the interpolation of a traction field on the interface. These methods are subject to the Ladyzhenskaya-Babuska-Brezzi (LBB) stability condition, and are therefore limited in their implementation with the higher-order elements needed to capture nonlinear material behavior. Alternatively, the enriched discontinuous Galerkin approach (EDGA) (Haikal and Hjelmstad 2010) is a primal method that provides higher order kinematic fields on the interface, and in which interface tractions are computed from local finite element estimates, therefore facilitating its implementation with nonlinear material models. The inclusion of higher-order interface variables, however, presents the issue of preserving material history at integration points when a increase in integration order is needed. In this study, the enriched discontinuous Galerkin approach (EDGA) is extended to the case of small-deformation plasticity. An interface-driven Gauss-Kronrod integration rule is proposed to enable adaptive enrichment on the interface while preserving history-dependent material data at existing integration points. The method is implemented using classical J2 plasticity theory as well as the pressure-dependent Drucker-Prager material model. We show that an efficient treatment of interface variables can improve algorithmic performance and provide a consistent approach for coupling non-conforming meshes in inelasticity.
This study describes process and method to establish concurrent and/or sequential schedule planning for the system design process of the EIA632 standard. For this purpose, the study suggest Process and method that are context analysis of standard process, interface definition from activity decomposition, integration of related activities, and definition of concurrent and/or sequential work flow. The proposed process and method will contribute to minimize time loss that is emerged from activities iteration.
