Nonlinear partial differential equations are more suitable to model many physical phenomena in science and engineering. In this paper, we consider three nonlinear partial differential equations such as Novikov equation, an equation for surface water waves and the Geng-Xue coupled equation which serves as a model for the unidirectional propagation of the shallow water waves over a at bottom. The main objective in this paper is to apply the generalized Riccati equation mapping method for obtaining more exact traveling wave solutions of Novikov equation, an equation for surface water waves and the Geng-Xue coupled equation. More precisely, the obtained solutions are expressed in terms of the hyperbolic, the trigonometric and the rational functional form. Solutions obtained are potentially significant for the explanation of better insight of physical aspects of the considered nonlinear physical models.
This study was performed to find out drying characteristics and develop drying model for the design of an efficient dryer or drying system of garlic. The basic model which describes drying phenomenon of garlic was first established. A series of drying test were conducted with two varieties of garlic(Uiseong, Namdo) at 9-different drying conditions (drying temperatures ; $40^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, relative humidities ; 20%, 35%, 50%) and statistical analysis was made to fit the data with exponential equation, approximated diffusion equation, page equation, thompson equation and wang equation, respectively. In this test, the effects of drying air temperature and relative humidity on the drying rate were undertaken. Finally, new drying model based on these experimental results was developed to describe the drying characteristics of garlic. Also, the volatile components of garlic extracts were investigated. For experiment both Uisoeng and Namdo garlic were dried by heated-air-drying, followed by ether extraction. The extracts were analysed by Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometer.
The concentration of cohesive suspended sediment is determined by the circulation of water and the material dispersion. The equations of the two-dimensional, depth-integrated dispersive transport are the Reynolds equation, continuity equation, and advection-dispersion equation based on the Fick's law. A finite difference method has been applied to two models of circulation and dispersion transport. The circulation model is solved by the explicit scheme and the dispersion transport model is solved by multi-operational scheme. It is investigated wheter advective terms are included when the equation of circulation is applied to the model. For advection-dispersion equation, it was also investigated about variations of suspended sediment concentration with respect to the critical shear stresses.

A tensor invariant model equation for the turbulent energy dissipation rate is proposed in the present study, which is able to simulate secondary straining effects such as curvature effects without the introduction of additional empirical input. The source term in this model has a combined form of the generation term due to the mean vorticity with the conventional one due to the mean strain rate. An extended low-Reynolds-number $k-\epsilon$ turbulence model involving this new model equation is tested for a turbulent Coutte flow between coaxial cylinders with inner cylinder rotated, which is a well defined example of curved flows. The predicted results indicate that the present model works much better for this flow, compared with previous models.

A simulation model for reservoir sizing was developed to be applied in a region with insufficient hydrological data. Reservoir storage balance equation was formulated on a monthly basis. Gajiyama equation was generalized to estimate monthly reservoir inflow more accurately. Monthly evaporation equation on a reservoir water surface was introduced , which was functioned with monthly mean temperature. Generalized Gajiyama equation was applied to estmate reservoir inflow of the Sayeon dam. Nash-Sutcliffe's model efficiency was 0.793. Using developed model for reservoir sizing, water supply capacity was analyzed with 118.000㎥/day on the Sayeon dam. This showed a reasonable result as compared with 110000㎥/day in other technical report. For general application of developed model, a virtual reservoir was considered and its dta of surface area and volume by elevation was prepared using DEM. Using the model, size of reservoir was determined and water supply capacity was anlayzed on a virtual reservoir.

Chaotic dynamics is an active research area in fields such as biology, physics, sociology, psychology, physiology, and engineering. Interest in chaos is also expanding to the social sciences, such as politics, economics, and societal events prediction. Most people pursue happiness, both spiritual and physical in many cases. However, happiness is not easy to define, because people differ in how they perceive it. Happiness can exist in mind and body. Therefore, we need to be happy in both simultaneously to achieve optimal happiness. To do this, we need to synchronize mind and body. In this paper, we propose a chaotic synchronization method in a mathematical model of happiness organized by a second-order ordinary differential equation with external force. This proposed mathematical happiness equation is similar to Duffing's equation, because it is derived from that equation. We introduce synchronization method from our mathematical happiness model by using the derived Duffing equation. To achieve chaotic synchronization between the human mind and body, we apply an idea of mind/body unity originating in Oriental philosophy. Of many chaotic synchronization methods, we use only coupled synchronization, because this method is closest to representing mind/body unity. Typically, coupled synchronization can be applied only to non-autonomous systems, such as a modified Duffing system. We represent the result of synchronization using a differential time series mind/body model.

The mechanical properties of the most widely used cryogenic materials, i.e. austenitic stainless steel (ASS), aluminum alloy and invar steel, strongly depend on temperatures and strain rates. These phenomena show very complicated non-linear behaviors and cannot be expressed by general constitutive equation. In this study, an unified constitutive equation was proposed to represent the effect of temperature and strain rate on the materials. The proposed constitutive equation has been based on Tomita/Iwamoto and Bodner/Partom model for the expression of 2nd hardening due to martensite phase transformation of ASS. To simulate ductile fracture, modified Bodner/Chan damage model was additionally applied to the model and the model validity was verified by comparison of experimental and simulation results.
In this paper, the shock waves in compressible solids and liquids are simulated using a six-equation diffuse interface multiphase flow model that is extended to the Cochran and Chan equation of state. A pressure relaxation method based on a volume fraction function and a pressure-correction equation are newly implemented to the six-equation model. The developed code has been validated by a shock tube problem with liquid nitromethane and an impact problem of a copper plate on a solid explosive. In addition, a new problem, an impact of a copper plate on liquid nitromethane, has been solved. The present code well shows the wave structures in compressible solids and liquids without any numerical oscillations and overshoots. After the impact of a solid copper plate on liquid, two shock waves (one propagates into liquid and the other into solid) are generated and a material interface moves to the impacting direction. The computational results show that the shock velocity inside the liquid linearly increases with the impact velocity.

A weakly nonlinear mild-slope equation has been derived directly from the continuity equation with the aid of the Galerkin's method. The equation is combined with the momentum equations defined at the mean water level. A single component model has also been obtained in terms of the surface displacement. The linearized form is completely identical with the time-dependent mild-slope equation proposed by Smith and Sprinks(1975). For the verification purposes of the present nonlinear model, the degenerate forms were compared with Airy(1845)'s non-dispersive nonlinear wave equation, classical Boussinesq equation, andsecond¬order permanent Stokes waves. In this study, the present nonlinear wave equations are discretized by the approximate factorization techniques so that a tridiagonal matrix solver is used for each direction. Through the comparison with physical experiments, nonlinear wave model capacity was examined and the overall agreement was obtained.

In this study, it was proposed that an equation for predicting consolidation settlement on soft clay ground, which separate total settlement into primary and secondary consolidation settlement equation. The consolidation settlements by the proposed equation and by the measured settlements from laboratory model test were compared and verified for its application. It was appeared that the proposed equation from the laboratory model test approach to be more realistic comparing to !the result of Terzaghi's equation. From the above application, it was concluded that the final settlement prediction by. the Hyperbolic, Asaoka methods is needed to the initial settlement but the proposed equation could be much applicable in the lacking condition of measured data of the initial period.
