  • This paper describes a reliability/durability test of the remanufactured steering gear units. There used to be government restrictions to remanufacture certain types of automotive components regarding safety of passengers. Nevertheless, scientific approach to sustainability and remanufacturing process provided solid evidence of highly beneficial sides of reusing the products. Failure mode analysis of the steering gear unit is performed and main failure is found out. The unit is remanufactured by fixing the failure and its quality is assessed through designing a new sequence of loading events. Oil leakage is witnessed as a possible failure and its volume is measured. Conclusions based on laboratory condition durability test are given at the end.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of the specimen geometries on the pin bearing strength of the angle ply carbon fiber reinforced composites. The effect of the edge distance and the specimen width on the pin bearing strength of angle ply CFRP composites are experimentally investigated in this paper. As results, the failure mode and pin bearing strength of mechanical joints turned out to depends on the stacking sequence and specimen geometries such as the edge distance and the specimen width. The higher pin bearing strength obtained for the angle ply CFRP composites is attributed to a combination of debonding, pull out, buckling and breakage of fiber and also the matrix cracking.

Reduced-State MLSD Based on Volterra Kernels for Square-Law Detected Multipath Channels

  • We propose a novel reduced-state maximum-likelihood sequence detection (MLSD) structure using the Viterbi algorithm based on the second-order Volterra kernel modeling nonlinear distortion due to square law detection of multipath channels commonly occurring in chromatic dispersion (CD) or polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical communication systems. While all existing MLSD methods for square-law detection receivers are based on direct computation of branch metrics, the proposed algorithm provides an efficient and structured way to implement reduced-state MLSD with almost the same complexity of a MLSD for linear channels. As a result, the proposed algorithm reduces the number of parameters to be estimated and the complexity of computation.

  • When the length of sampling data sequence is too large, the method of gesture recognition based on traditional Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) algorithm will lead to too long calculation time, and the accuracy of recognition result is not high.Support vector machine (SVM) has some shortcomings in precision, Edit Distance on Real Sequences(EDR) algorithm does not guarantee that noise suppression will not suppress effective data.A new method based on Improved Interpolation Dynamic Time Warping (IIDTW)algorithm is proposed to improve the efficiency of gesture recognition and the accuracy of gesture recognition. The results show that the computational efficiency of IIDTW algorithm is more than twice that of SVM-DTW algorithm, the error acceptance rate is FAR reduced by 0.01%, and the error rejection rate FRR is reduced by 0.5%.Gesture recognition based on IIDTW algorithm can achieve better recognition status. If it is applied to unlock mobile phone, it is expected to become a new generation of unlock mode.

  • The Monte-Carlo simulation was used to define the physical mechanisms of the initiation phase of pseudo-spark discharge. The pseudo-spark discharge employing the hollow cathode geometry is accompanied by very fast current rising and intense charged particle beams. In this model, time-dependent continuity equation for the electrons and ions were solved consistently with Poisson's equation for the electric field in a two-dimensional, sysmmetrically cylinderical geometry. From the simulation, a sequence of physical mechanisms that cause the rapid current rise associated with the onset of pseudo-spark discharge mode were identified.

  • A Lineal Stepping Motor (LSM) can operate in an open loop control mode similarly to a rotary stepping motor. However, the LSM has a large transient vibration, and it sometimes causes the miss-step. In this paper, a new vibration suppression method using an energy stored in winding inductance and induced voltage of the LPM is proposed.

  • Wind tunnel tests and analyses of the response of the concrete pylon for the Seo Han Grand Bridge were conducted using aeroelastic model technique. A 1/250 scale aeroelastic model was used to measure the responses of the pylon at the several critical locations and to find any possible vibrational behavior. In order to confirm the model design and fabrication, natural frequencies and mode shapes measured from the model were compared with those from the calculation. Tests were conducted under the various angles ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$ to find the critical angle of the wind. In order to evaluate the sensitivity of the response to changes in structural damping, a series of tests were conducted with two different values of structural damping such as 0.2% and 1.0% of critical. Additional tests were also conducted considering construction sequence.

A study on process of drafting bodice sloper by CAD system (CAD 시스템을 이용한 원형설계과정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to utilize of the CAD system in pattern making process for women's bodice sloper, especially in education of the drafting. Accumark 540 System was used for this study. The drafting program was developed by the use of macro program in CAD system. The results from this study : 1. The Lim Won Ja's system of bodice sloper was selected in this study. The hand drafting of the system was arranged developing the macro program of bodice sloper. 2. The program consists of eight subprograms I sequence of the drafting order. In running this developed program, proper figure is drafted by inputing data. And the drafting process is automatically presented in interactive mode. 3. It has been developed to input the function of French Curve Ruler to increase the effectiveness of curved line treatment. The program can also be used in the curve part to present the manualy sensible function. 4. In case of education of drafting bodice sloper, the program provides the high accuracy, efficiency and a strong interest nterest in pattern making process by utilizing CAD system.

DEPENDENCE OF THE SENSITIVITY TO PLANETS ON THE PROPERTIES OF HIGH-MAGNIFICATION GRAVITATIONAL MICROLENSING EVENTS

  • In current microlensing planet searches that are being carried out in a survey/follow-up mode, the most important targets for follow-up observations are lensing events with high magnifications resulting from the very close approach of background source stars to the lens. In this paper, we investigate the dependence of the sensitivity to planets on detailed properties of high-magnification events. From this, it is found that the sensitivity does not monotonically increase as the impact parameter between the lens and the source trajectory decreases. Instead, it is roughly the same for events with impact parameters less than a certain threshold value. It is also found that events involving main-sequence source stars are sensitive to planets in a much wider range of separation and mass ratio, than those events involved with giant source stars. Based on these results, we propose observational strategies for maximal planet detections considering the types of telescopes available for follow-up observations.

  • We propose a robust equalization algorithm to improve the performance of airplane flutter casuing dynamic ghosts. The algorithm is an augumentation of the DFE with training sequence(DFE-TS) with the Modified Stop-and-Go Algorithm(MSGA) based on DFE structure, which is called a DFE-TS/MSGA. This will allow the equalizer to switch itself back to blind mode almost instantaneously when drastic and sudden changes in the channel occur. Test results based on the 8-VSB HDTV receiver show that the proposed algorithm is robust against dynamic ghosts and outperforms the conventional DFE-TS in reducing the intersymbol interference.
