  • Sliding mode design and analysis for nonlinear system was carried out. A designer will determine the parameters to know about the performance and robustness of the system dynamics. To investigate the characteristics of sliding mode control, an inverted pendulum model is applied by the sliding mode control and the state concerned is output. Comparison is made by evaluating different initial conditions, sliding numerical components for sliding surface, and input gain, the dynamic of output will be investigated to conclude the generality. Control approaches have their limitations and sliding mode control is no exception. The chattering problem is its main negative effect to overcome. This effect is displayed and in this project chattering problem is suppressed by a modified discontinuous controller.

  • The pesticide and carcinogen ethylene dibromide(EDB) is metabolized both by cytosolic GSH S-transferase and by microsomal mixed function oxygenase. Cytochrome P-450 IIE1 appears to be major enzyme to metabolize EDB.EDB is activated to a mutagen by enzymatic conjugation with glutathione (GSH). Such activation is an exception to the general mode of detoxification via GSH S-transferase action. The primary DNA adduct (>95) is S-[2-(N7-guanyl)ethyl] GSH and a minor adduct is S-[2-(N7-guanyl)ethyl]cysteine, which is excreted in the urine and may serve as a biomarker of damage.

  • A dual capillary column system is described for the simultaneous analysis of a given sample and measurement of retention index (RI) and area ratio (AR) values of each peak on two capillary columns of different polarity, DB-5 & DB-1701 from a single injection. Both capillary columns were connected to either a splitless injector or an on-column injector via a deactivated fused-silica capillary tubing of 1 m length and a 'Y' splitter. Both injection modes allowed to measure RI and AR values with high reproducibility (<0.01% RSD) and high accuracy (<10% RE), respectively with the exception that the trace and high boiling solutes required the on-column mode for the accurate quantification and AR comparison. When the dual capillary column system in on-column injection mode was applied to the blind samples containing organic acids, each acid was positively indentified by the combined computer RI library search-AR comparison.

  • Concerns remain regarding the biocompatibility and adverse effects of dental casting alloys. The aim of this study was to understand the cytopathogenic effect of metal ions, which might be released from dental alloys, on oral squamous carcinoma(OSC) cells. The cellular morphology, viability, the type of cell death and molecular change in response to metal ion salt solutions including aluminum(Al), cobalt(Co), copper(Cu) and nickel(Ni) were examined. The $TC_{50}$ values for the metal ions with the exception of AI were estimated to be between 400 and $600{\mu}M$. The cells treated with the metal ions showed apoptotic change with the exception of Al ions. Metal ion-induced apoptosis was further confirmed using flow cytometric analysis. This study showed that the cytotoxicity and the mode of cell death by metal ions clearly depend on the cell type, the type of metal ion and the duration of exposure. The protein level of Rb, a tumor suppressor that affects apoptosis para-doxically, was higher in the cells treated with Co, Cu and Ni. It is believed that apoptosis and cell damage in the OSC cells treated with Co, Cu or Ni can be evoked by the regulation of Rb.

  • In this paper, we have analysed the channel loss characteristics of optical fiber due to the changing of radius of curvatures and the number of cable banding, and due to the connection between different modes of fiber to derive revisions of technical regulation for FTTH. The results of test show that all conditions are satisfied the criteria(allowable radius of curvatures, 30mm) with the exception of conditions of 10mm radius in single mode case and show that source of light in multi mode fiber can't be delivered to single mode fiber. henceforth, we should study more intensively on the standards of connection between cables in the different modes.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of mortar-filled sleeve bar splice using estimation method of failure mode in the sleeve reinforcement splice. To attain this goal, we analyzed the test results of 261 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve splice specimens. The study results showed that the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve bar splice made an effective estimate of the stiffness in this bar splice with the exception of specimens with SD500 bars and smooth pipe sleeve. Especially, of the specimens with cast sleeve or uneven pipe sleeve in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, specimens over 98% with SD400 bars and all specimens with SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in monotonic loading. In addition, of the specimens in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, all specimens with SD400 bars and SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in cyclic loading.

  • In this study, three isolated interior flat slab-column connections that include three types of shear reinforcement details; stirrup, shear stud and shear band were tested under reversed cyclic lateral loading to observe the capacity of slab-column connections. These reinforced joints are 2/3 scale miniatures designed to have identical punching capacities. These experiments showed that the flexural failure mode appears in most specimens while the maximum unbalanced moment and energy absorbing capacity increases effectively, with the exception of an unreinforced standard specimen. Finally, the results of the experiments, as wel l as those of experiments previously carried out by researchers, are applied to the eccentricity shear stress model presented in ACI 318-08. The failure mode is therefore defined in this study by considering the upper limits for punching shear and unbalanced moment. In addition, an intensity factor is proposed for effective widths of slabs that carry an unbalanced moment delivered by bending.

  • Based on the reliability theory, the risk assessment of steel beams is performed by the determination of failure probability. In the calculation, bending, shearing and combined (bending + shearing) modes are examined. The resistance and the loads on the beam are assumed to be normal distribution. To investigate the failure probability changes, total load applied at the mid span of beam is divided into 1 to 1 and 1 to 2 ratio and then these divided loads are placed on the trisected points on beam. The change of boundary conditions at beam ends are also included in the investigation. It shows that failure is governed by the combined mode for the present beams and the second order bound analysis of failure probability is not crucial. On the whole failure probability decreases with increasing end restraints at the beam ends with some exception.

  • We investigated how the polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) tolerance was degraded by semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)-induced chirp for the 10 Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ), duobinary NRZ, return-to-zero (RZ), and carrier-suppressed RZ (CS-RZ) modulation formats. The power penalty was calculated as a measure of the system performance due to PMD for a given SOA-induced chirp. Considering only first-order PMD, all modulation formats have a similar PMD tolerance regardless of SOA-induced chirp. On the other hand, when both first- and second-order PMD are considered, the PMD tolerance of all modulation formats with the exception of the CS-RZ modulation format are degraded by SOA-induced chirp. Among all modulation formats considered here, the NRZ modulation format has the PMD tolerance with the highest sensitivity to SOA-induced chirp. When the peak-to-peak chirp induced by SOAs is $0.28{\AA}$, its PMD tolerance is degraded up to 4 dB for a differential group delay (DGD) of 50 ps. However, the PMD tolerance of the CS-RZ modulation format is largely unaffected by SOA-induced chirp.

  • According to a quantum leap of the performances of automobile, environmental factors are important as functional factors, especially noise. BLDC motor, one of the part of automobile, is also no exception. In this paper, investigation of the sound sources of outer rotor type BLDC motor is performed. In order to reduce noise, it must be necessary knowing sound source. To this end, this paper is analyzed two viewpoints, structural and electromagnetic causes. For structural analysis, modal experiment and 3D mode analysis are performed. On behalf of electromagnetic analysis, 2D finite element method is carried out. Finally, coupling analysis is performed in order to know about influence between two factors.
