Effects of a Muscle Strengthening Exercise Program after Total Knee Arthroplasty (슬관절 전치환술 후 하지 근육강화 운동 프로그램 효과)

  • Purpose: This research was conducted to compare the effects of a muscle strengthening exercise program on pain, straight leg raising ability, passive range of motion, independent walking time and satisfaction with total knee arthroplasty(TKA). Method: A nonequivalent control group posttest only design was used for this study. A total of 62 patients were randomly divided into the experimental group(31) and the control group (31). The experimental group received a 1-hour exercise intervention, while the control group received the usual care. Data was analyzed by t-test using the SPSS/WIN 11.0. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in pain score, straight leg raising ability, passive range of motion of knee joint, independent walking time, and the patient's satisfaction. Conclusion: The muscle strengthening exercise program was effective on decreasing pain and increasing mobility and satisfaction in patients with TKA.

  • The role of suspension system in tracked vehicles cannot be overestimated because the driving and running conditions of such vehicles are very severe. It reduces the vibration and shock which are generated by road profile in running condition. As the tracked vehicle's running speed increases, more undesired vibrations can be generated by road profile particularly in the situation of field running. Because, the excessive vibration can harm the operation ability of crewmen and stability of complex equipments, the maximum running speed is limited.   • A swarm-bot docking with two independent robots aiming at overcoming obstacles or climbing up/down stairs is introduced how it can be manufactured and controlled. Utilizing the fast mobility of the vehicle robot and cooperating between robots expands the applications of the robot. An algorithm for identifying the partner robot and its generic mechanism enabling the docking of two robots are addressed. The designed swarm-bot has advantages in terms of overcoming obstacle or stair climbing which is not easily implemented by a single robot, increasing the adaptability to the environment.

  • Organic semiconductors based on fused-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon have great potential to be utilized as an active layer for electronic and optoelectronic devices. In this study, pentacene thin films and electrode materials were deposited by Organic Molecular Beam Deposition(OMBD) and vacuum evaporation respectively. For the gate dielectric, polyamic acid was spin-coated and cured into polyimide at 350$^{\circ}C$. Electrical characteristics of the devices were investigated, where the channel length and width was 50${\mu}m$ and 5mm. It was found that field effect mobility was 0.012$cm^{2}/Vs$, and on/off current ratio was $10^5$.

  • Two stroke low speed diesel engines are used as a power supplier not only for marine vessel but also diesel power plant with a benefit of its higher mobility and durability than the other thermal engines. However, there are some disadvantages such as the bigger vibrating excitation forces generated by high combustion pressure in cylinders which various kinds of vibrations are caused. In this paper, it is theoretically studied to control engine body vibration using dynamic vibration absorber.   • Multicast data communication is an efficient communication scheme, especially inmulti-hop ad hoc networks where the media access control (MAC) layer is based on one-hop broadcast from one source to multiple receivers. Compared to unicast, multicast over a wireless channel should be able to deal with varying channel conditions of multiple users and user mobility to provide good quality to all users. IEEE 802.11 does not support reliable multicast owing to its inability to exchange request-to-send/clear-to-send and acknowledgement packets with multiple recipients. Thus, several MAC layer protocols have been proposed to provide reliable multicast. However, additional overhead is introduced, as a result, which degrades the system performance. In this paper, we propose an efficient wireless multicast MAC protocol with small control overhead required for reliable multicast in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks. We present analytical formulations of the system throughput and delay associated with the overhead.

Contactless Power Charger for Light Electric Vehicles Featuring Active Load Matching

  • Contactless power transfer technology is gaining increasing attention in city transportation applications because of its high mobility and flexibility in charging and its commensurate power level with conductive power transfer method. In this study, an inductively coupled contactless charging system for a 48 V light electric vehicle is proposed. Although this study does not focus on system efficiency, the generic problems in an inductively coupled contactless power transfer system without ferromagnetic structure are discussed. An active load matching method is also proposed to control the power transfer on the receiving side through a load matching converter. Small signal modeling and linear control technology are applied to the load matching converter for port voltage regulation, which effectively controls the power flow into the load. A prototype is built, and experiments are conducted to reveal the intrinsic characteristics of a series-series resonant inductive power charger in terms of frequency, air gap length, power flow control, coil misalignment, and efficiency issues.

  • This article describes an interference reduction scheme for Mobile WiMAX in an indoor environment. The feasibility of user deployed femtocells in the same frequency channel as an existing macro cell network is investigated. One of the important requirements for co-channel operation of femtocells such as auto-configuration and self optimization are discussed. In femtocell deployments, leakage of the pilot signal to the outside of a house can result of the higher number of mobility events caused by passing user of macrocell. This interference effect can be minimized by reducing the pilot power using proper scheme. This paper introduces existing auto-configuration method of power control and proposed interference reduction scheme using power control for Mobile WiMAX in an indoor environment.

  • Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), is one of well-designed routing protocols in mobile ad hoc networks. It supports the functionality of node mobility modules through multiple control messages to create and maintain paths for data transfer. Even though a number of studies have been conducted to achieve rapid discovery of paths across the network, but few have focused on impact of control messages. This paper proposes a method to adjust the transmission time of messages used in path recovery according to their individual characteristics. Simulation results show the improved performance of the proposed algorithm rather than traditional AODV routing protocol.
