  • High rise hotels are densely populated and have complex ignition sources. Once a fire occurs, it can cause serious casualties and property damage. The impact of a fire is greater on special groups such as the elderly and children who move slowly. At present, research mainly focuses on the impact of high-rise building structures on evacuation consequences, but there is little research on the safety evacuation consequences of elderly and children in high-rise hotels, as well as the behavior of people in groups during the safety evacuation process. Therefore, we propose to use Pathfinder software to simulate three scenarios for the elderly and children in high-rise hotels. Scenario 1 involves arranging the elderly and children on higher floors, Scenario 2 involves arranging them on middle floors, and Scenario 2 involves arranging them on lower floors. We further provide three types of personnel pairing schemes for each scenario, namely: no one pairing, two people pairing, and three people pairing. Through simulation analysis, we found that placing elderly and children with lower mobility on lower floors resulted in the shortest safe evacuation time; The evacuation time for solo actions without companionship is the shortest, followed by two people in groups, and the safety evacuation time for three people in groups is the longest. Our research findings have significant implications for improving the evacuation efficiency of personnel in fire scenarios.

  • Urban road maintenance creates potential risks for both road users and workers in addition to traffic congestion and delays. The adverse effects of maintenance work could be minimized through mitigation measures of work zone layout and construction arrangement, such as reducing the dimension of work zone segments and scheduling construction during low-traffic periods. However, these measures inevitably escalate construction costs. Consequently, decision-making in urban road maintenance necessitates a balance among multiple strategic objectives to facilitate optimal development via a comprehensive road maintenance management system. This study aims to propose an integrated framework to accomplish the multiple and conflicting objectives for maximizing safety and mobility while minimizing construction costs by optimizing the work zone layout and construction sequence dynamically. The framework enables the seamless information exchange among building information modeling (BIM), geographic information system (GIS), and domain-specific computational engines (DCE), which perform interdisciplinary assessments and visualization. Subsequently, a genetic algorithm is employed to determine the optimal plan considering multiple objectives due to its versatility in resolving highly complex conflict problems.

  • This paper presents a solution to the frequency coexistence problem between low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks and other services by utilizing genetic algorithms. Non-terrestrial network (NTN) utilizing LEO satellites have mobility and need to address interference issues that may occur when sharing frequencies with terrestrial services according to propagation rules. In this study, we model the interference scenario based on the NTN operation scenario proposed by 3GPP, and derive the optimal channel allocation scheme for NTNs to protect terrestrial services while satisfying the minimum quality of service (QoS) through genetic algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing fixed assignment method and graph coloring method, and enables efficient frequency sharing.

  • Many simulators have been developed and are being used for the complex and various mobile communication service environments. Each of these simulators has its own teletraffic model that consists of traffic source model and network traffic model. In this paper, network traffic model and traffic source model, which are based on the data gathered in real environment, are defined in order to get more accurate simulation results in the mobile communication simulation for the urban region. The network traffic model suggested in this paper reflects the hourly call generation rate and call duration time by analyzing the data collected from actually installed base station by the time and place, and the traffic source model includes the delivery share ratio and average speed information in the region where the base station is installed. This paper defined and designed Mobile Host object that reflects the suggested traffic source model, and Call Generator object that reflects the network traffic model, and other objects support both objects. Using the teletraffic model suggested in the paper, user mobility similar to real service environment and traffic characteristics can be reflected on the simulation, and also more accurate simulation results can be got through that. In addition, by using object-oriented techniques, new service feature or environment can be easily added or changed so that the developed mobile communication simulator can reflect the real service environment all the time.

  • Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a material with a wide bandgap (3.26eV), a high critical electric field (~2.3MV/cm), a and a high bulk electron mobility (${\sim}900cm^2/Vs$). These electronic properties allow high breakdown voltage, high frequency, and high temperature operation compared to Silicon devices. Although various SiC DMOSFET structures have been reported so far for optimizing performances. the effect of channel dimension on the switching performance of SiC DMOSFETs has not been extensively examined. In this paper, we report the effect of the interface states ($Q_s$) on the transient characteristics of SiC DMOSFETs. The key design parameters for SiC DMOSFETs have been optimized and a physics-based two-dimensional (2-D) mixed device and circuit simulator by Silvaco Inc. has been used to understand the relationship with the switching characteristics. To investigate transient characteristic of the device, mixed-mode simulation has been performed, where the solution of the basic transport equations for the 2-D device structures is directly embedded into the solution procedure for the circuit equations. The result is a low-loss transient characteristic at low $Q_s$. Based on the simulation results, the DMOSFETs exhibit the turn-on time of 10ns at short channel and 9ns at without the interface charges. By reducing $SiO_2/SiC$ interface charge, power losses and switching time also decreases, primarily due to the lowered channel mobilities. As high density interface states can result in increased carrier trapping, or recombination centers or scattering sites. Therefore, the quality of $SiO_2/SiC$ interfaces is important for both static and transient properties of SiC MOSFET devices.

  • Two different experiments, adsorption/desorption and runoff by rainfall simulation of four pesticides, such as alachlor, ethalfluralin, ethoprophos and pendimethalin were undertaken their runoff and erosion losses from sloped land and to assess the influence of their properties and environmental factors on them. The mobility of four pesticides and which phase they were transported by were examined in adsorption study, and the influence of rainfall pattern and sloping degree on the pesticide losses were evaluated in simulated rainfall study. Freundlich adsorption parameters (K) by the adsorption and desorption methods were 1.2 and 2.2 for ethoprophos, 1.5 and 2.6 for alachlor, respectively. And adsorption distribution coefficients (Kd) by the adsorption and desorption methods were 56 and 94 for ethalfluralin, and 104 and 189 for pendimethalin, respectively. K or Kd values of pesticides by the desorption method which were desorbed from the soil after thoroughly mixing, were higher than these ones by the adsorption method which pesticides dissolved in water were adsorbed to the soil. Another parameter (1/n), representing the linearity of adsorption, in Freundlich equation for the pesticides tested ranged from 0.96 to 1.02 by the desorption method and from 0.87 to 1.02 by the adsorption method. Therefore, the desorption method was more independent from pesticide concentration in soil solution than the adsorption method. By Soil Survey and Land Research Center (SSLRC)'s classification for pesticide mobility, alachlor and ethoprophos were classified into moderately mobile $(75{\leq}Koc<500)$, and ethalfluralin and pendimethalin were included to non-mobile class (Koc > 4000). Runoff and erosion loss of pesticides by three rainfall scenarios were from 1.0 to 6.4% and from 0.3 to 1.2% for alachlor, from 1.0 to 2.5% and from 1.7 to 10.1% for ethalfluralin, from 1.3 to 2.9% and from 3.9 to 10.8% for pendimethalin, and from 0.6 to 2.7% and from 0.1 % 0.3% for ethoprophos, respectively. Distribution of pesticides in soil profile were investigated after the simulated rainfall study. Alachlor and ethoprophos were leached to from 10 to 15 cm of soil layer, but ethalfluralin and pendimethalin were mostly remained at the top 5 cm of soil profile. The losses of the pesticides at 30% of sloping degree were from 0.2 to 1.9 times higher than those at 10%. The difference of their runoff loss was related with their concentration in runoff water while the difference of their erosion loss must be closely related with the quantity of soil eroded.

  • IEEE 802.16j MR networks introduce RSs (Relay Stations) within the IEEE 802.16 system in order to enhance the data throughput and extend the coverage. However, the current standardization defines that the BS (Base Station) controls MS's (Mobile Station's) handover, not only it induces the large signaling overhead but also handover latency could increase. In this paper, we propose a handover protocol in the MR networks where the high capability RSs that can process the MS's control functions are deployed. First, we classify the handover scenarios for the MR networks with the high capability RSs. Then, we define the MAC handover procedure, corresponding MAC management messages and the transmission routes for the proposed messages so that an 802.16e MS can perform seamless handover without noticing it is attached to an MR network. The simulation results show that the proposed handover protocol not only reduces the MAC management message overhead transferred through the wireless links compared to IEEE 802.16j/D1, which is the current standard for MR networks, but also performs the rapider and more secure MS handover than IEEE 802.16e and IEEE 802.16j/D1.

  • Mobile Sensor Network(MSN) is actively studied due to the advent of mobile sensors such as Robomote and Robotic Sensor Agents(RSAs), However, existing studies on MSN have mainly focused on coverage hole problem which occurs in Stationary Sensor Network(SSN). To address coverage hole problem, these studies make mobile sensors move temporarily so that they do not make the best use of the mobility of mobile sensors, Thus, a mechanism utilizing the continuous movement of mobile sensors is proposed to improve the network coverage performance. However, this mechanism is presently immature and does not explain how to make routing path and send data from mobile sensors to a sink node, Therefore, to efficiently make routing path and send data from mobile sensors to a sink node, we propose a communication protocol for mobile sensor network where mobile sensors continuously move. The proposed protocol deploys not only mobile sensors but also stationary sensors which send sensing data to a sink node instead of mobile sensors. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol improves the performance in terms of network coverage and traffic overhead, compared to conventional SSN protocols.

  • Mobile Virtual Private Network (MVPN) provides VPN services without geographical restriction to mobile workers using mobile devices. Coexistence of Mobile IP (MIP) protocol for mobility and IPsec-based VPN technology are necessary in order to provide continuous VPN service to mobile users. However, Problems like registration failure or frequent IPsec tunnel re-negotiation occur when IPsec-based VPN Gateway (GW) and MIP are used together. In order to solve these problems, IETF proposes a mechanism which uses external home agent (x-HA) located external to the corporate VPN GW. In addition, based on the IETF proposal, a mechanism that assigns x-HA dynamically in the networks where MN is currently located was also proposed with the purpose to reduce handover latency as well as end-to-end delay. However, this mechanism has problems such as exposure of a session key for dynamic Mobility Security Association (MSA) or a long latency in case of the handover between different networks. In this paper, we propose a new MVPN protocol in order to minimize handover latency, enhance the security in key exchange, and to reduce data losses cause by handover. Through a course of simulation, the performance of proposed protocol is compared with the existing mechanism.

  • Increase in the wireless mobile network users brings the issue of mobility management into the Virtual Private Network (VPN) services. We propose a provider edge (PE)-based provider provisioned mobile VPN mechanism, which enables efficient communication between a mobile VPN user and one or more correspondents located in different VPN sites. The proposed mechanism not only reduces the IPSec tunnel overhead at the mobile user node to the minimum, but also enables the traffic to be delivered through optimized paths among the (mobile) VPN users without incurring significant extra IPSec tunnel overhead regardless of the user's locations. The proposed architecture and protocols are based on the BGP/MPLS VPN technology that is defined in RFC24547. A service provider platform entity named PPVPN Network Server (PNS) is defined in order to extend the BGP/MPLS VPN service to the mobile users. Compared to the user- and CE-based mobile VPN mechanisms, the proposed mechanism requires less overhead with respect to the IPSec tunnel management. The simulation results also show that it outperforms the existing mobile VPN mechanisms with respect to the handoff latency and/or the end-to-end packet delay.
