  • In this paper, we propose a Cooperative Routing using ARQ-based Transmission (CRARQ) in Mobile Ad-hoc Wireless Sensor Networks (MAWSN). The goals of the CRARQ are to improve both the efficiency of transmission and the reliability of transmission together. The main features and contributions of the proposed CRARQ for supporting these goals are as follows. First, CRARQ uses a reactive concept to construct a route from a source to a destination. Second, CRARQ chooses the most stable relay at each hop along the route by mobility-based strategy. Third, cooperative transmission using the ARQ technique which can improve reliability is used at each hop to send data packets from source to destination. Finally, we present a theoretical analysis model for the proposed CRARQ. The performance evaluation of our protocol is implemented via simulation using Optimized Network Engineering Tool (OPNET) and analysis. The results of both simulation and analysis show that CRARQ achieves the improved packet delivery ratio (PDR) and outage probability.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-state based hybrid location update scheme, which integrates the time-based and the movement-based methods. In the proposed scheme, a mobile terminal updates its location after n cell boundary crossing and a time interval of T[sec]. We derive an analytical solution for the performance of the hybrid scheme with exponential cell resident time and evaluate it numerically with time-varying random walk mobility model, which we model as multi-states Markov chain. Furthermore, we also evaluate the scheme for arbitrary cell resident times by simulation. From the numerical analysis and the simulation results, we prove that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the time-based and the movement-based methods, when implemented alone, more accurately adapting to the time-varying user mobility.

  • TDMA MAC protocol in MANET requires precise network synchronization between nodes though network topology changes continuously due to node mobility and the effect of propagation environment. In this paper we propose in-band cross-layer network synchronization architecture for TDMA-based MANETs. In the proposed architecture TDMA MAC protocol and proactive routing protocol cooperate closely to rapidly detect network partition and merge caused by node mobility and to precisely maintain network synchronization. We also implement the proposed synchronization architecture in OPNET simulator and evaluate the performance of it in various simulation scenarios. Simulation results show that our architecture stably maintains network time synchronization in both network partition and merge situations.

  • This paper presents the PCB heat dissipation characteristics of high density DC-DC converter for electric vehicles. This paper also analyzes the heat dissipation structure of the high density DC-DC converter and optimizes the PCB heat dissipation design of the high density power system through thermal analysis simulation. Based on heat transfer theory, the thermal path of general electronic devices is analyzed and the thermal resistance equivalent circuit is modeled in this paper. Additionally, the thermal resistance equivalent circuit of the 500W synchronous buck converter, which is addressed in this paper, is modeled to present a structural heat dissipation path for better thermal performance. The validity of the proposed scheme is verified through the thermal analysis simulation results and experiments applying multi-surface heat dissipation structure to a 500[W](12[V], 41.67[A]) synchronous buck converter prototype with an input voltage 72[V].

  • The manual direction-finding method detects a target that emits radio waves using a base station or vehicle, utilizing various techniques. However, base stations and vehicles have many limitations in mobility and are heavily affected by environmental factors, and the techniques traditionally used could only detect the target's location in two dimensions. Therefore, this study presents a technique for detecting the target's location in three dimensions using an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV), which is widely used for civilian and commercial purposes and combines mobility with a higher vantage point. We propose the method that estimates the target's location by generating a virtual 3D sphere using only the received power, and we conducted a simulation to analyze the results. The simulation was compared and analyzed with ground vehicle measurement data to evaluate the performance of 3D direction-finding when positioning the UAV at the same location.

  • In this paper, we propose a new location service and location-based routing for data dissemination from a source to a mobile group sink in less energy consumption of the sensor node. Unlike the existing protocols, the proposed protocol uses a leader sink instead of a group area as the location information to represent a mobile sink group. The proposed protocol also uses grid leaders on virtual grid structure to support sink mobility in location service. By using a leader sink as a representative and grid leaders for mobility supporting, the proposed protocol can exploit an efficient hierarchical location service and data dissemination method without using flooding. Accordingly, the proposed protocol carries out upper layer location services and data dissemination between a leader sink and a source and lower layer location services and data dissemination between the leader sink and member sinks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol achieves energy-efficiency.

  • This paper proposes a method taking advantage of Fog computing and SDN in the connected vehicle environment which is having an unstable communication channel and a dynamic topology. For this purpose, the controller should understand the current state of the overall network by maintaining recent network topology, especially, the mobility information of mobile nodes. These are managed by the controller, and are important in unstable conditions in the mobile environment. The mobility levels are divided into 3 categories. We can efficiently exploit that information. By utilizing network state information, we suggest two outcomes. First, we reduce the control message overhead by adjusting the period of beacon messages. Second, we propose a recovery process to prepare the communication failure. We can efficiently recover connection failure through mobility information. Furthermore, we suggest a path recovery by decoupling the cloud level and the fog level in accordance with application data types. The simulation results show that the control message overhead and the connection failure time are decreased by approximately 55% and 5%, respectively in comparison to the existing method.

  • As quick and secure mobility service is becoming a critical issue in the ubiquitous environment. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has done a lot of meaningful work in order to cope with the critical issues, which is a key technology of guaranteeing the legally and safely using of network resources, they has proposed Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) to complement for such problems as handover latency and signaling overhead in existing MIPv6. Most of the current research about HMIPv6 focuses on how to optimize the interactive processes between the HMIPv6 and AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) protocol. This paper describes a cost-effective hierarchical authentication scheme, which makes its focus on minimizing the authentication latency in AAA processing. In this scheme, a hierarchical AAA architecture is proposed, in which the AAA servers are deployed on the Mobility Anchor Point (MAP), the Root AAA server manages several Leaf AAA servers and the Brokers on behalf of the AAA server in home domain. The simulation results shows that the proposed scheme reduces the handoff and authentication latency evidently compared to the previous traditional authentication combination modeling.

  • In order to support mobility for sink groups, it is important to get the current location of a mobile sink group and then to offer the location to a source. Typically, previous works calculate a region including all member sinks by flooding; then, it notifies this region information to a source. However, flooding and location updates are periodically performed regardless of the group movement so that it causes considerable control overhead. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient scheme supporting mobile sink groups. The proposed scheme obtains a location of a group without flooding. It exploits the inherent property of mobile sink groups which could approximate entire group movement by only partial member sinks movement. Also, the scheme learns group location by back-propagation learning method through exploiting overhearing feature in wireless communication environment. Our simulation studies show that the proposed scheme significantly improves in terms of energy consumption compared to the previous work.

  • In mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET), the network topology and neighboring nodes change frequently, since MANET is composed of nodes that have mobility without a fixed network infrastructure. The AODV routing protocol is advantageous for MANET, but AODV has a delay in the transmission of data packets because AODV can not transmit data during route recovery. This paper proposes solving the above problem of AODV by using a bypass generation mechanism for data transmission during route recovery. For further improvement, additional mechanisms that coordinate the reception threshold of a hello packet are proposed in order to improve the accuracy of the information obtained from the neighboring nodes when the bypass is generated due to a link failure and the immediacy of the route recovery. Simulation results show that the proposed technique improves the performance in terms of the delay in transmission compared to traditional AODV.
