In this paper, we propose a novel applying method of Mobile IPv6 service into the UMTS to solve the mapping problems in the GGSN TFT packet filter. The mobility management tables or the GGSN should be maintained as the same as the MN and the CN. Our proposed scheme copes with the problem when the RO procedure is not normally performed by using Mobile IPv6 signaling packets in the GGSN and adding a function block in the UMTS. To show the performance of our proposed algorithm, we accomplish the simulations of measuring the delay time in the cases of success and failure of the RO procedure. Also, the amount of transmission is observed when the packet transmission is assured in the case of the successful RO procedure.

The future mobile networks consist of hyper-dense heterogeneous and small cell networks of same or different radio access technologies (RAT). Integrating mobile networks of different RATs to provide seamless and smooth mobility service will be the target of future mobile converged network. Generally, handover from high-speed networks to low-speed networks faces many challenges from application perspective, such as abrupt bandwidth variation, packet loss, round trip time variation, connection disruption, and transmission blackout. Existing inter-RAT handover solutions cannot solve all the problems at the same time. Based on the high-layer convergence sublayer design, a new receiver-aided soft inter-RAT handover is proposed. This soft handover scheme takes advantage of multihoming ability of multi-mode mobile station (MS) to smooth handover procedure. In addition, handover procedure is seamless and applicable to frequent handover scenarios. The simulation results conducted in UMTS-WiMAX converged network scenario show that: in case of TCP traffics for handover from WiMAX to UMTS, not only handover latency and packet loss are eliminated completely, but also abrupt bandwidth/wireless RTT variation is smoothed. These delightful features make this soft handover scheme be a reasonable candidate of mobility management for future mobile converged networks.

We propose an advanced transaction scheduling protocol to improve the concurrency and to guarantee the mobility for the mobile database management systems. Mobility, portability, and wireless link In mobile computing environment can cause certain drawbacks, and thus it is more difficult to solve the concurrency control problems. However, a locking scheme should be used to guarantee the data consistency and to prevent the data conflicts. It is well known that data consistency is guaranteed by standard transaction scheduling schemes like two-phase locking (2PL). It has two of operation, lock and unlock. But 2PL does not give solution for mobile system. Altruistic Locking (AL) and classifying transactions, we adapt, can give solution for the previous problems. AL, as an advanced protocol, has attempted to reduce delay effects associated with lock release moment by the use of donation. In this paper, we extend those approaches and classify the transactions to reduce delay effects of short-lived transaction caused by long-lived transaction. In addition, we show efficient solution for the case of disconnection occurrence. Our protocol, namely, Mobile Altruistic Locking (MAL) is shown to be efficiently used in order to reduce delay effects and to guarantee database consistency in a state of the slippery connection in mobile database systems.

The development of wireless network technology and the increasing use of wireless networks to mobile users with a variety of wireless network systems has arisen. Wireless sensor networks, they can be nested together, and the need to switch between the network, depending on your needs. Next Generation Wireless Networks(NGWN) gives the mobile user a wide coverage and optimized service etc. Previous hand off management protocol is not enough to secure support of the NGWN application program. Cross-layer Handoff(CLH) protocol technique has been developed to support between and inside networks of handoff management of NGWN. CLH supports mobility management in a wireless network environment and also utilizes mobility speed and handoff signaling delay information to improve the handoff performance ability. For the analysis of handoff performance ability, we analyzed sensitivity of link layer and network layer, therefore, CLH technique is suggested based on this analysis.

Recently, Proxy Mobile IPv6(PMIPv6) networks have been studied as the mobility management protocol to effectively use limited wireless resources. And the multicasting, which is core technology of the Internet broadcast system such as mobile IPTV, has been discussed mainly based on PMIPv6 network. However, multicasting based on PMIPv6 network causes disconnection of services because it does not solve problems of packet loss during binding and group joining procedure. Hence, we propose a seamless multicast scheme which prevents packet loss in PMIPv6 networks. The proposed scheme achieves lower latency than the existing scheme because it combines binding and group joining procedure, a1so it does not cause about packet losses due to performing buffering. We proved the performance using the simulations.

Development of high-speed Internet services and the increased supply of mobile devices have become the key factor for the acceleration of ubiquitous technology. WiBro system, formed with lP backbone network, is a MBWA technology which provides high-speed multimedia service in a possibly broader coverage than Wireless LAN can offer. Wireless telecommunication environment needs not only mobility support in Layer 2 but also mobility management protocol in Layer 3 and has to minimize handover latency to provide seamless mobile services. In this paper, we propose a fast cross-layer handover scheme based on signal strength prediction in WiBro environment. The signal strength is measured at regular intervals and future value of the strength is predicted by Exponential Smoothing Method. With the help of the prediction, layer-3 handover activities are able to occur prior to layer-2 handover, and therefore, total handover latency is reduced. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme predicts that future signal level accurately and reduces the total handover latency.

The ability to seamlessly switch between the macro networks and femtocell networks is a key driver for femtocell network deployment. The handover procedures for the integrated femtocell/macrocell networks differ from the existing handovers. Some modifications of existing network and protocol architecture for the integration of femtocell networks with the existing macrocell networks are also essential. These modifications change the signal flow for handover procedures due to different 2-tier cell (macrocell and femtocell) environment. The handover between two networks should be performed with minimum signaling. A frequent and unnecessary handover is another problem for hierarchical femtocell/macrocell network environment that must be minimized. This work studies the details mobility management schemes for small and medium scale femtocell network deployment. To do that, firstly we present two different network architectures for small scale and medium scale WCDMA femtocell deployment. The details handover call flow for these two network architectures and CAC scheme to minimize the unnecessary handovers are proposed for the integrated femtocell/macrocell networks. The numerical analysis for the proposed M/M/N/N queuing scheme and the simulation results of the proposed CAC scheme demonstrate the handover call control performances for femtocell environment.

Next-generation wireless/mobile networks are envisioned to have an IP-based infrastructure. One of the research challenges for next-generation all IP-based networks is the design of intelligent mobility management technologies that have a seamless mobility and minimal signaling overhead. Recently, HMIPv6 was proposed by the IETF for efficient mobility management. HMIPv6 reduces the amount of signaling and improves the performance of MIPv6 in terms of handover latency. However the MAP can be a single point of performance bottleneck when there are a lot of local movements. HMIPv6 can cause signaling overhead due to the unnecessary location update of idle mobile nodes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the dynamic paging Mobile IPv6 that reduces the signaling cost of the unnecessary location updates using IP paging and organizes dynamically optimal MAP area according to user's mobility and traffic. We show performance results that are obtained from the average total location update cost and packet delivery cost.
An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. In this study, we consider movement-based registration(MBR) and distance-based registration(DBR). Analytical models based on 2-dimensional random walk in hexagonal cell configuration are considered to analyze the performance of MBR and DBR. Especially, we focus on the derivation of the registration cost of DBR scheme by using two analytical methods and then show that DBR always outperforms MBR. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate optimal condition under various circumstances.
