Factors Influencing the Knowledge Adoption of Mobile Game Developers in Online Communities: Focusing on the HSM and Data Quality Framework

  • Recently, with the advance of the wireless Internet access via mobile devices, a myriad of game development companies have forayed into the mobile game market, leading to intense competition. To survive in this fierce competition, mobile game developers often try to get a grasp of the rapidly changing needs of their customers by operating their own official communities where game users freely leave their requests, suggestions, and ideas relevant to focal games. Based on the heuristic-systematic model (HSM) and the data quality (DQ) framework, this study derives key content, non-content, and hybrid cues that can be utilized when game developers accept suggested postings in these online communities. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis show that relevancy, timeliness, amount of writing, and the number of comments are positively associated with mobile game developers' knowledge adoption. In addition, title attractiveness mitigates the relationship between amount of writing/the number of comments and knowledge adoption.

A need-awaring multi-agent approach to nomadic community computing for ad hoc need identification and group formation

  • Recently, community computing has been proposed for group formation and group decision-making. However, legacy community computing systems do not support group need identification for ad hoc group formation, which would be one of key features of ubiquitous decision support systems and services. Hence, this paper aims to provide a multi-agent based methodology to enable nomadic community computing which supports ad hoc need identification and group formation. Focusing on supporting group decision-making of relatively small sized multiple individual in a community, the methodology copes with the following three characteristics: (1) ad hoc group formation, (2) context-aware group need identification, and (3) using mobile devices working in- and out-doors. NAMA-US, an RFID-based prototype system, has been developed to show the feasibility of the idea proposed in this paper.

식사사진을 이용한 24시간 식사 회상 모바일 폰 앱의 나트륨 섭취 추정 타당성 연구 (Validity of Estimating Sodium Intake using a Mobile Phone Application of 24-hour Dietary Recall with Meal Photos)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to verify the validity of a mobile phone application (app) that applies a 24-hour dietary recall with meal photos, as a means of being a more accurate method of estimating dietary sodium intake. Methods: Of the 203 subjects enrolled, 172 subjects (84 males and 88 females) were selected for the final analysis, excluding those with an intake less than 500 kcal and urine output less than 500 ml. Dietary sodium assessment methods used for comparing with the 24-hour urinary sodium excretion are as follows: 1) face-to-face 24-hour dietary recall, 2) 24-hour dietary recall using the mobile app, 3) face-to-face 24-hour dietary recall considering liquid intakes from soup, stew, water kimchi and noodle, etc (liquid-based dishes), 4) 24-hour dietary recall using the mobile app considering liquid intakes from liquid-based dishes, and 5) food frequency questionnaire. Repeated ANOVA with Bonferroni method was used for comparing the average sodium intake, and Pearson's correlation was applied to correlate the methods used. Results: In women, no significant difference was observed in the average sodium intake between all methods. Moreover, analysis in men and total adults revealed no significant difference between the 24-hour urinary sodium secretion, and 24-hour dietary recall using the app and 24-hour dietary recall using the app considering liquid intakes. Sodium intake by food frequency questionnaire was significantly different when compared with the intake determined from 24-hour urinary sodium excretion. Sodium intake from all methods (except food frequency questionnaire) significantly correlated with values obtained from 24-hour urine sodium excretion. Conclusions: Results of this study validated a mobile phone app using a 24-hour dietary recall with meal photos to better estimate dietary sodium intakes. It is believed that further studies in the future will enable the application as a tool to more accurately determine sodium intake.

SNS 브랜드 성격이 모바일 네이티브 광고 태도에 미치는 영향 (How SNS Brand Personality Affect Mobile Native Ad Attitude)

  • 본 연구에서는 SNS 이용 소비자를 대상으로 SNS의 브랜드 성격 요인을 규명하고 이러한 SNS 브랜드 성격 요인이 SNS 내에서 접할 수 있는 모바일 네이티브 광고의 속성 인식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 SNS 브랜드 성격과 모바일 네이티브 광고의 속성으로 정보성, 신뢰성, 오락성, 방해성, 상호작용성을 연구변수로 도입하여 연구모형을 제시하고 SNS 이용자를 대상으로 하여 설문조사를 수행하였다. 온라인 설문조사를 통해 최종 341부를 분석에 사용하였으며, 수집된 데이터는 SPSS 22.0과 AMOS 18.0을 통해 분석하였다. 분석결과에 의하면 SNS 브랜드 성격 요인으로 '성실', '열정', '매력', '실용', '공동체'의 5가지 성격이 도출되었다. 이 가운데 '성실', '열정', '공동체' 브랜드 성격이 대부분의 모바일 네이티브 광고 속성에 대해 긍정적 영향을 주지만 '실용' 브랜드 성격은 부정적 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 매력 브랜드 성격은 모바일 네이티브 광고 속성과 상관이 없는 브랜드 성격으로 나타났다. 또한 모바일 네이티브 광고 속성 가운데 정보성과 신뢰성이 광고태도에 긍정적 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.

Design and Implementation of Community-based Hazard Mapping Support System Based on Mobile Cloud in Traditional Towns with Local Heritage

  • This paper describes the design and trial development of a system that supports continuous hazard mapping by local residents in their daily life. We performed an interview survey to design our system in a model traditional town in Saga Prefecture, Japan. The results show that despite continued efforts, many practical problems remain and residents feel unsafe. Considering these results, we designed and developed a unique information and communication technology-based support system that contributes to community-based disaster prevention and reduction. The continuous resident participation and posting design are the core concept for our community-based approach. Our system continues to support making a hazard map by integrating the community-based hazard information. Local residents register information (disaster types, risk level, photographs, comments, positional information) about locations that could be dangerous in a disaster. In addition, our system enables information sharing through a Web server. We expect that this information sharing will allow local hazard information for each district to be used.

Impact of Short Message Service (SMS) and Social Media on Sexual Intercourse of High School Students in Cambodia

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between short message service and social media use, and sexual intercourse of high school students in Cambodia. Methods: Four hundred and eighty-three high school students from three schools in rural provinces were interviewed with structured questionnaires. Results: Sexual intercourse was found significantly more frequent among male students than among female students (p=.001), among alcohol drinkers than among non-drinkers (p<.001), among those who were not taking pictures with mobile phones than among those who were (p=.045), and among those who were exchanging SMS between boyfriend and girlfriend than among those who were not (p=.006). The students who were sending SMS by mobile phones were 5.83 times as likely to have sexual intercourse as their counterparts (p=.020), who were taking pictures with mobile phone were 0.04 times as likely as those who were not (p=.045) and the odds ratio was 15.19 times as high in alcohol drinkers as in non-drinkers (p=.001). Conclusions: Efforts should be made to encourage positive and effective use of social media among adolescents to maintain their sexual health.

Cyclostorm : WAC 기반 모바일 앱의 자바스크립트 처리 효율 향상을 위한 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스 (Cyclostorm : The Cloud Computing Service for Uplifting Javascript Processing Efficiency of Mobile Applications based on WAC)

  • WAC (Wholesale Application Community) 기반 모바일 웹 애플리케이션의 보급이 널리 확산됨에 따라 자바스크립트와 HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)로 구현된 애플리케이션의 처리 성능이 점차 이슈화되고 있다. 단순한 처리 기능만을 갖는 구조라면 현재 통용되는 브라우저에서도 문제가 없지만 자바스크립트의 처리량이 점점 증가 할수록 브라우저의 처리 부담 또한 가중된다. 현재 상용화 되어 있는 모바일 브라우저에서는 자바스크립트의 처리에 시간 및 용량의 제한을 두고 있다. 이러한 문제점의 해결을 위한 대안으로서 HTML 5에서는 기존의 자바스크립트에서는 지원하지 않는 멀티 스레드 구현을 위한 Web Worker를 제공하고 있다. Web Worker는 싱글 스레드에서 처리하는 일정 부분을 별도의 스레드를 통해서 처리하는 메커니즘을 제공한다. 하지만 이는 모바일상의 Native 애플리케이션만큼의 처리 능력을 보장하는 것이 아니며 근본적인 처리 속도 개선 방법으로는 미흡하다. Cyclostorm은 이러한 모바일 상에서의 자바스크립트 처리를 클라우드 상의 컴퓨터 서버에 이전함으로써 모바일 클라이언트로서의 자원적 한계를 극복하고 고성능 처리 서비스를 제공하여 Native 애플리케이션 만큼의 성능을 보장한다. 성능 평가 실험에서 Cyclostorm은 기존의 모바일 브라우저에서의 자바스크립트 처리보다 최대 6배 빠른 처리 속도를 보이고 있고 HTML 5의 Web Worker보다는 3~6배정도의 빠른 성능을 보이고 있다. 또한 메모리 부분에서도 서버 측에 존재하는 메모리를 사용하기 때문에 전반적으로 기존의 방법보다는 낮은 사용량이 측정 되었다. 본 논문에서는 현재 모바일 산업에서 화두가 되고 있는 WAC 기반에서 모바일 브라우저가 갖고 있는 한계를 극복하고 기존 웹 애플리케이션의 성능을 획기적으로 개선할 수 있는 클라우드 컴퓨팅 서비스인 Cyclostorm을 소개한다.

Mobile Botnet Attacks - an Emerging Threat: Classification, Review and Open Issues

  • The rapid development of smartphone technologies have resulted in the evolution of mobile botnets. The implications of botnets have inspired attention from the academia and the industry alike, which includes vendors, investors, hackers, and researcher community. Above all, the capability of botnets is uncovered through a wide range of malicious activities, such as distributed denial of service (DDoS), theft of business information, remote access, online or click fraud, phishing, malware distribution, spam emails, and building mobile devices for the illegitimate exchange of information and materials. In this study, we investigate mobile botnet attacks by exploring attack vectors and subsequently present a well-defined thematic taxonomy. By identifying the significant parameters from the taxonomy, we compared the effects of existing mobile botnets on commercial platforms as well as open source mobile operating system platforms. The parameters for review include mobile botnet architecture, platform, target audience, vulnerabilities or loopholes, operational impact, and detection approaches. In relation to our findings, research challenges are then presented in this domain.

스마트 패러독스: 모바일 인스턴트 메신저의 영향에 관한 연구 (Smart Paradox: An Effect of Mobile Instant Messengers)

  • 모바일 인스턴트 메신저 50~60년대 TV나 20세기 초 전화만큼이나 우리의 삶을 변화시키고 있다. 따라서 많은 학자들은 모바일 인스턴트 메신저가 우리의 공동체 생활과 사회적 관계에서의 참여를 향상시키는지 아니면 해를 입히고 있는지에 대해 궁금증을 제시하고 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 2개 대학의 155명의 참여자를 대상으로 자신이 소유한 모바일 인스턴트 메신저가 외로움에 미치는 영향을 탐색해보고자 하였다. 연구결과, 높은 모바일 인스턴트 메신저 사용은 타인과의 의사소통을 감소시키고 결국 외로움을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다.

모바일폰의 초등학생 비만관리를 위한 활용 가능성에 대한 질적연구 : 학부모 측면 (A Qualitative Study on the Potential Utilization of a Mobile Phone for Obesity Management in Elementary-School Children : Parents' Perspective)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the current difficulties surrounding children's obesity management and evaluate the application of a mobile phone as a tool to overcome such difficulties of obesity management from the perspective of main caregivers of elementary school students. Methods: The qualitative data were collected through 3 focus group interviews including 6 full-time housewives, 7 mothers with overweight children, and 4 working mothers. Data were analyzed using a thematic approach. Results: The limitations of current children's obesity management included difficulty in diet management and exercise as well as challenges of setting goals and lack of support at the household and school levels. Mobile technology may be useful to overcome the current problems by providing real-time knowledge on diet management and physical activity, online compensation scheme according to goal setting, and interactive environmental supports at both household and school levels for promoting overall health. Conclusions: The mobile-based multiple support program may assist in overcoming the current limitations of child obesity management by providing tailored information and by creating a more supportive environment.
