Robots will be able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively in near future. One of the most important aspects in the development of human-friendly robots is to cooperation between humans and robots. In this paper, we proposed a method for multi-object identification in order to achieve such human-centered system and robot localization in intelligent space. The intelligent space is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. The Intelligent Space achieves the human centered services by accelerating the physical and psychological interaction between humans and intelligent devices. As an intelligent device of the Intelligent Space, a color CCD camera module, which includes processing and networking part, has been chosen. The Intelligent Space requires functions of identifying and tracking the multiple objects to realize appropriate services to users under the multi-camera environments. In order to achieve seamless tracking and location estimation many camera modules are distributed. They causes some errors about object identification among different camera modules. This paper describes appearance based object representation for the distributed vision system in Intelligent Space to achieve consistent labeling of all objects. Then, we discuss how to learn the object color appearance model and how to achieve the multi-object tracking under occlusions.
Proportionately with a rapid development of mobile instrument technology, the number of mobile contents utilizing computing environment's graphic technology or image processing is increasing. In this paper, I designed a middleware which supports facial detection and recognition system based WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability), the Korean standard mobile platform. The facial recognition middleware introduced the object oriented concepts, to apply to recognition security and other contents by using mobile camera. This can reduce the development time and cost by dividing process while developing software. Therefore, it would be applied to content security or technology transfer with other company. Facial recognition middleware system is composed of face detection module and face recognition module, and proposes the application contents design method based on WIPI platform.

TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) module is representative commercial product of FPD(Flat Panel Display). Thickness of TFT-LCD module is very thin. It is adopted for major display unit for IT devices such as Cellular Phone, Camcorder, Digital camera and etc. Due to the harsh user environment of mobile IT devices, it requires complicated structure and tight assembly. And user requirements for the mechanical functionalities of TFT-LCD module become more strict. However, TFT-LCD module is normally weak to high level transient mechanical shock. Since it uses thin crystallized panel. Therefore, anti-shock performance is classified as one of the most important design specifications. Traditionally, the product reliability against mechanical shock is confirmed by empirical method in the design-prototype-drop/impact testredesign paradigm. The method is time-consuming and expensive process. It lacks scientific insight and quantitative evaluation. In this article, a systematic design evaluation of TFT-LCD module for mobile IT devices is presented with combinations of FEA and testing to support the optimal shock proof display design procedure.
There come various types of robot with researches for mobile robot. This paper introduces the multi-joint snake robot having 16 degree of freedom and composing of eight-axis. The biological snake robot uses the forward movement friction and the proposed artificial snake robot uses the un-powered wheel instead of the body of snake. To determine the enable joint angle of each joint, the controller inputs are considered such as color and distance using PC Camera and ultra-sonic sensor module, respectively. The movement method of snake robot is sequential moving from head to tail through body. The target for movement direction is decided by a certain article be displayed in the PC Camera. In moving toward that target, if there is any obstacle then the snake robot can avoid by itself. In this paper, we show the method of snake robot for tracing the target with experiment.
A lens system of a camera module for mobile phones is comprised of the composition and design of various shapes of lens. To improve responses such as the modular transfer function (MTF), a lens system should always be constructed by considering uncertainty that can be caused by manufacturing and assembly error. In this study, tolerance optimization using the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) technique is performed. In order to reduce the computational burden of the tolerance optimization process and decrease the influence from numerical noise effectively, we use the Progressive Quadratic Response Surface Modeling (PQRSM), which is one of Sequential Approximate Optimization (SAO) techniques. Using this method, we achieved optimal tolerance for each lens and obtained reliability for satisfying user‘s requirements. In addition, through the design process the manufacturing and assembly cost of a lens system was reduced.

The necessity of intelligent surveillance system is gradually considered seriously from the space where the security is important. In this paper, we embodied unmanned intelligent system by developing embedded mobile robot based on images and sounds tracking. For objects tracking, we used block-matching algorithm and for sound source tracking, we calculated time differences and magnitude dissimilarities of sound. And we demonstrated the superiority of intruder tracking algorithm through the embodiment of Pan-Tilt camera and sound source tracking module using system, Network camera and mobile robot using system and mobile robot using system. By linking security system, the suggested system can provide some interfacing functions for the security service of the public facilities as well as that of home.
Recently, the character recognization technique is strongly needed to enable the mobile communication devices with cameras to gather input information from the users. In general, it is not easy to reuse a CBOCR(Camera Based Optical Character Recognizer) module because of its dependency on a specific platform. In this paper, we propose a software architecture for CBOCR module providing the easy adaptability to various mobile communication platforms. The proposed architecture is composed of the platform dependency support layer, the interface layer, the engine support layer, and the engine layer. The engine layer adopts a plug-in data structure to support various hardware endian policies. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying the architecture to a practical product.
This study presents a new design method for a zoom lens, in which real lens groups are designed successively to combine to form a lens modules zoom system. The lens modules and aberrations are applied to the initial design for a four-group inner-focus zoom system. An initial design with a focal length range of 4.2 to 39.9 mm is derived by assigning the first-order quantities and third-order aberrations to each module along with the constraints required for optimum solutions. After obtaining the lens module zoom system, the real lens groups are successively, not separately, designed to get a zoom lens system. Compared to the separately designed real lens groups, this approach can give a better starting zoom lens and save time. The successively designed groups result in a zoom system that satisfies the basic properties of the zoom system consisting of the original lens modules. In order to have a slim system, we directly inserted the right-angle prism in front of the first group. This configuration resulted in a compact zoom system with a depth of 12 mm. The finally designed zoom lens has an f-number of 3.5 to 4.5 and is expected to fulfill the requirements for a mobile zoom camera having high zoom ratio of 10x.

The demand of a camera-lens-module which is installed in mobile phone has been increased explosively as the increase of mobile phone market. Recently, two missions are given to the parts manufacturer of lens module, and they are how to keep the quality of injection moulding process as the increase of resolution, and how to decrease manufacturing cost. In this paper, a simulation study is introduced which is used for developing barrel and shield considering the double-cassette type of mould. At first, the simulation for injection process using Mold Flow$^{TM}$ is applied in the phase of mould design, and mechanical simulation using DPM Assembly$^{TM}$ is applied for collision detection between picking robot and mould. As a result, the productivity increased more than 300%.
In order to produce high-quality optical components, aspheric lenses have been widely applied in recent years. An aspheric lens consists of aspheric surfaces instead of spherical ones, which causes difficulty in the design process as well as the manufacturing procedure. Although injection molding is widely used to fabricate optical lenses owing to its high productivity, there remains lots of difficulty to determine appropriate mold design factors and injection molding parameters. In the injection molding fields, computer simulation has been effectively applied to analyze processes based on the shell analysis so far. Considering the geometry of optical lenses, a full-3d simulation based on solid elements has been reported as a reliable approach. The present work covers three-dimensional injection molding simulation and relevant deformation analysis of an injection molded plastic lens based on 3d solid elements. Numerical analyses have been applied to the injection molding processes of three aspheric lenses for an image sensing module of a mobile phone. The reliability of the proposed approach has been verified in comparison with the experimental results.
