Copper/Nickel/Manganese Doped Cerium Oxides Based Catalysts for Hydrogenation of CO2

  • The recycling technology by the catalytic conversion is one of the most promising techniques for the $CO_2$ treatment of coal burning power plant flue gases. The conversion of $CO_2$ to valuable product of $CH_4$ can be used as a fuel to run the turbine for electricity generation. Through this technique, the amount of coal needed for the combustion in a gas turbine can be reduced as well as $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore, a series of catalysts based on cerium oxide doped with copper, nickel and manganese were prepared by impregnation method. From the characterization analysis, it showed that the prepared catalysts calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ were amorphous in structure with small particle size in the range below 100 nm. Meanwhile, the catalyst particles were aggregated and agglomerated with higher surface area of $286.70m^2g^{-1}$. By increasing the calcination temperature of catalysts to $1000^{\circ}C$, the particle sizes were getting bigger (> 100 nm) and having moderate crystallinity with lower surface area ($67.90m^2g^{-1}$). From the catalytic testing among all the prepared catalysts, Mn/Ce-75/$Al_2O_3$ calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ was assigned as the most potential catalyst which gave 49.05% and 56.79% $CO_2$ conversion at reaction temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Serratia liquefaciens AL-11이 생산하는 Alkaline Lipase의 특성 및 작용양상 (Characteristics and Action Pattern of Alikaline Lipase from Serratia liquefaciens AL-11)

  • The optimum temperature and pH for the enzyme activity were 45$^{\circ}C$ and 10.0, respectively. The enzyme was stable in a pH range of 5 to 10, and 62% of its activity was lost on heat treatment of 60$^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. The activity of the purified enzyme was inhibited by $Fe^{2+},\;Zn^{2+}\;and\;Pb^{2+}$, and slightly activated by $Mn^{2+}\;and\;Ca^{2+}$. ${\gamma}$-Chloromercuribenzoic acid, 2,4-dinitrophenol and $H_{2}O_{2}$ did not show inhibitroy effect on the lipolytic activity of the alkaline lipase but ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid inhibited the enzyem activity. This suggested that the enzyme have metal group in its active site. Sodium salts of bile acids stimulated the enzyme activity. Analysis of hydrolyzates of olive oil after the reaction revealed that Serratia liquefaciens AL-11 produced non-specific lipolytic enzyme.

Zn3(PO4)2 Protective Layer on Zn Anode for Improved Electro-chemical Properties in Aqueous Zn-ion Batteries

  • Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are considered as promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries for energy storage owing to their safety and cost efficiency. However, their lifespan is limited by the irreversibility of Zn anodes because of Zn dendrite growth and side reactions such as the hydrogen evolution reaction and corrosion during cycling. Herein, we present a strategy to restrict direct contact between the Zn anode and aqueous electrolyte by fabricating a protective layer on the surface of Zn foil via phosphidation method. The Zn3(PO4)2 protective layer effectively suppresses Zn dendrite growth and side reactions in aqueous electrolytes. The electrochemical properties of the Zn3(PO4)2@Zn anode, such as the overpotential, linear polarization resistance, and hydrogen generation reaction, indicate that the protective layer can suppress interfacial corrosion and improve the electrochemical stability compared to that of bare Zn by preventing direct contact between the electrolyte and the active sites of Zn. Remarkably, MnO2 Zn3(PO4)2@Zn exhibited enhanced reversibility owing to the formation a stable porous layer, which effectively inhibited vertical dendrite growth by inducing the uniform plating of Zn2+ ions underneath the formed layer.

재조합균주 E. coli CNU312가 생산하는 Catechol 2,3-Dioxygenase의 정제 및 특성 (Purification and Characterization of Catechol 2,3-Dioxygenase from Recombinant Strain E. coli CNU312.)

  • Toluene, phenyl 등의 분해균주인 Burkholderia cepacia G4로부터 tomB 유전자를 클로닝하여 얻은 재조합 균주 E. coli CNU312로부터 catechol 2,3-dioxygenase를 정제하여 효소학적 특성을 조사하였다. Catechol 2,3-dioxygenase는 native 분자량이 약 140.4 kDa이었으며 4개의 동일한 35 kDa subunit로 구성된 homotetramer로 생각된다. Catechol의 $K_(m)$값과 $V_(max)$값은 372.6 $\mu$M과 39.27 U/mg이었으며, 1.56 mM 이상의 기질 농도에서는 활성이 감소되었다. 효소 활성의 최적 pH는 8.0이었으며, pH 7.0-8.0 범위에서 안정하였다. 최적 활성온도는 $40^{\circ}C$였으며, $60^{\circ}C$이상에서 완전히 활성을 상실하였다. 또한 $Fe^(2+)$, $Fe^(3+)$ 를 비롯한 대부분의 금속 이온에 의해 활성이 감소되었으며, $Mg^(2+)$, $K^(+)$에는 영향을 받지 않았다. 효소 활성부위를 알아보기 위해 화학변형제를 처리한 결과, tryptophan과 histidine이 효소 활성부위에 존재하는 것으로 추정된다. 그리고 10%의 유기용매에 안정성을 보이지 않았으며, $H_(2)$$O_(2)$, EDTA, ο-phenanthroline에도 활성이 감소되었다. 또한 2-mercaptoethanol, dithiothreitol, 그리고 ascorbic acid와 같은 환원제에 대해서도 안정성을 보이지 않았다. 이 효소는 catechol에 대해 높은 기질 특이성을 보였으며, 3-methylcatechol, 4-methylcatechol, 그리고 4-chlorocatechol에 대해 약간의 활성을 보였다. 그러나 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl에 대해서는 거의 활성을 보이지 않았다.

부산 해운대지역 지하수와 지열수의 수리화학적 특성 (Hydrochemical characteristics of ground and geothermal waters in the Haeundae hot-spring area, Pusan, Korea)

  • Twenty-two water samples(fifteen groundwater and seven geothermal water samples) were collected to elucidate chemical characteristics of the ground and geothermal waters in the Haeundae hot spring area and its vicinity. Major and honor elements were analyzed for ground and geothermal water samples. The concentrations of $K^+$, Na+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $SO_4^{2-}$, $Cl^-$, ^F^-$ and $SiO_2$ were higher in the geothermal water samples than the groundwater samples except $HCO_3^- and Mg^{2+}$ ions. Based on the contents of Fe, Zn, Cu, Al, Mn and Pb, some of the ground and geothermal water samples are contaminated by anthropogenic sources. The ground waters shown on the Piper diagram belong to $Ca-HCO_3$ type, while the geothermal waters Na-Cl type. The graphs of $Cl^-$ versus $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, K^+, SO_4^{2-} and HCO_3^-$ indicate that the groundwater is related partly with mineral-water reaction and partly with anthropogenic contamination, while the geothermal water is related with saline water. On the phase stability diagram, groundwater and thermal water mostly fall in the field of stability of kaolinite. This indicates that the ground and geothermal waters proceed with forming kaolinite. Factor and correlation analyses were carried out to simplify the physicochemical data into grouping some factors and to find interaction between them. Based on the Na-K, Na-K-Ca and Na-K-Ca-Mg geothermometers and silica geothermometers, the geothermal reservoir is estimated to have equilibrium temperature between 125${$\mid$circ}C$ and 160${$\mid$circ}C$.

굴껍질분(紛)의 화학성(化學性) 및 작물(作物)에 대한 시용효과(施用效果) (Composition of Crushed Oyster Shell and its Application Effect on Vegetables)

  • 환경오염(環境汚染)을 유발(誘發)하는 굴패각(貝殼)을 농업적(農業的) 토양개량자재(土壤改良資材)로 재활용(再活用) 하고자 이를 비료공정규격(肥料工程規格)에 맞게 가공(加工)한 패각석회(貝殼石灰)에 대하여 주요성분(主要成分) 분석(分析)과 중화량(中和量)을 측정(測定)하고, 미사질양토(微砂質壤土)에 중화량(中和量)을 처리(處理)하여 상추, 양배추, 시금치, 양파, 고추, 콩을 재배(栽培)하여 작물생육(作物生育) 및 수양(收量)과 토양무기성분(土壤無機成分)의 변화(變化) 및 작물흡수(作物吸收) 등을 조사(調査)한 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1. 패각석회(貝殼石灰)는 pH(1 : 5)가 9.8로 CaO 함량은 55.5%였고, 유기물과 인산은 각각 1.3%, 0.29%였으며, Sol. Mn 47ppm, Sol. B 1.61ppm, Av. $SO_4$ 32ppm, EC 18.0ds/m이고, 입도분포는 1~60mesh가 73.4%, 61mesh 이상이 26.6%를 차지하여 석회시용이 용이하였다. 2. 패각석회(貝殼石灰)의 중화량(中和量)은 초기(初期)에는 3.68ton/ha로 소석회(消石灰)보다 30~35%더 소요(所要) 되나 24개월(個月) 후(後)에는 동일(同一)하였으나. 작토(作土)의 중화점(中和點)에는 도달(到達)되지 않았다. 3. 패각석회시용(貝殼石灰施用)으로 토양의 pH, Av. $P_2O_5$, Av, $SiO_2$, Ex.-Ca 함량(含量) 등이 증가하였다. 4. 석회무시용(石灰無施用)의 대조구에 비해 구각석회시용(具殼石灰施用)으로 양파를 제외(除外)한 시험작물(試驗作物)의 식물체중(植物體中) T-N, 인산함량(燐酸含量)은 높은 경향(傾向)이였으며, 특히 시금치는 K와 인산의 흡수(吸收)가 조장(助長)되었다. 재배작물(栽培作物)의 Ca 흡수(吸收)는 뚜렷한 경향(傾向)이 없었다. 양배추에서는 패각석회 처리가 소석회처리보다 대부분 무기성분 흡수량이 증가하였다. 5. 패각석회처리(貝殼石灰處理)는 대조구에 비(比)해 초장(草長), 엽장(葉長) 및 엽수(葉數) 등이 증가 상추 120%, 양배추 6%, 양파 154%, 고추 13%, 콩 8%가 각각(各各) 증수(增收)하였으며, 소석회처리(消石灰處理)와 비교하여 볼때 유의성(有意性)은 없었으나 모든 작물(作物)에서 증수(增收)하는 경향(傾向)이였다.

고성지역 유기농산물과 무농약농산물인증 논토양의 환경 조사 (An Investigation on the Environmental Factors of Certified Organic and Non-pesticide Paddy Soils Cultivating Rice at Goseong-Gun)

  • 유기농산물인증과 무농약농산물인증 지역의 논토양에 대한 연구를 위하여 고성지역 친환경작목반 중심으로 유기농산물 생산지역 266필지와 무농약 농산물 생산지역 545필지로 나누어 비교 조사하였다. 유기재배지 토양의 Cd, Cu, As, Hg, Pb, $Cr^{6+}$, Zn, Ni는 각각 0.05, 14.5, 1.08, 0.92, 10.7, 1.34, 35.9, 22.2 mg $kg^{-1}$인 반면에 무농약 재배지 토양은 각각 0.32, 13.6, 1.01, 0.03, 10.4, 0.91, 42.4, 22.5 mg $kg^{-1}$이었다. 토양의 화학성 중 pH, 유기물, 유효 $P_2O_5$, 유효 $SiO_2$의 평균값은 유기 재배지 토양에서 각각 5.9, 28.9 g $kg^{-1}$, 126.2 mg $kg^{-1}$, 150.8 mg $kg^{-1}$이었으며, 무농약 재배지 토양은 각각 5.92, 28.4 g $kg^{-1}$, 98.4 mg $kg^{-1}$, 230.1 mg $kg^{-1}$이었다. 치환성 양이온인 $K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, and $Mn^{2+}$의 평균값은 유기재배지 토양의 경우 각각 0.22, 4.83, 0.94 cmol + $kg^{-1}$이었고, 무농약 재배지 토양의 경우 각각 0.33, 5.25, 1.04 cmol+ $kg^{-1}$이었다. 유기 재배지 농업용수의 pH, DO, BOD, COD, SS는 각각 7.23, 8.40, 2.80, 1.86, 2.58 mg $l^{-1}$이었고, 무농약 재배지의 농업용수는 각각 7.65, 9.16, 2.25, 4.11, 4.00 mg $l^{-1}$이었다. 이와 결과를 기초로 하면, 유기농산물과 무농약농산물의 인증기준이 되는 토양과 농업용수의 차이가 없기 때문에 한국의 유기농산물과 무농약농산물로 나누어진 친환경농산물인증을 국제기준의 유기(식품)인증으로 일원화하여야 할 것으로 본다.

천년초선인장의 부위별 영양성분 분석과 정상 및 암세포에 미치는 효과 (Nutrients Contents in Different Parts of Pickly Pear(Opuntia humifusa) and Possible Anti-Breast Cancer Effect)

  • In order to examine the nutritional value of prickly pear(Opuntia humifusa), contents of ash, protein, fat, minerals and vitamins were determined on freeze-dried stem, fruit, seed and root from plants harvested in autumn. The average moisture contents for stem, fruit, seed and root were 67~87%. Crude ash content determined on dry weight basis was 2~3%. Crude protein existed mostly in seed(2.95%) and root(2.37%). Crude fat was detected mainly in seed(4.49%). Contents of major minerals(mg/100 mg dry weight) was generally higher in stem. Ca in stem(4,142.30) and fruit(2,790.86) were much higher than in seed(43.37). P in stem, seed and fruit were 448.19, 263.20 and 161.59, respectively. Stem also displayed more abundant Mg(1,110.86), Zn(35.62) and Mn(37.07). However, fruit contained higher amounts of Fe(13.38) and Se(0.15). Vitamin A was negligible in all plant parts. Vitamin E contents in fruit and stem were 1.78 mg and 1.22 mg/mg dry weight, respectively. Vitamin C was detected mostly in fruit(445.40) and stem(260.94). Use of a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide-based microtiter assay of cell viability demonstrated an anti-proliferative effect of O. humifusa extract on the MCF-7 estrogen-dependent human breast cancer cell line.

고정층 반응기에서 망간광석(NMD)을 이용한 저농도 일산화탄소 산화특성 (Oxidation Characteristics of Low Concentration CO Gas by the Natural Manganese Dioxide(NMD) in a Fixed Bed)

  • 고정층 반응기에서 망간광석을 이용하여 저농도의 일산화탄소 산화제어반응에 대하여 고찰하였다. 고려된 실험변수는 일산화탄소 농도 (500ppm~10000ppm), 산소 농도(500ppm~99.8%)와 촉매의 온도($50{\sim}750^{\circ}C$)이다. 또한 망간광석의 특성은 Thermogravimetric Analysis(TGA), 일산화탄소에 의한 환원, Temperature Programmed Reduction(TPR)실험을 이용하여 규명하였다. 망간광석의 일산화탄소 산화력은 순수이산화망간에 비해서 단위 면적당 높은 산화력과 $750^{\circ}C$까지 가열된 후에도 산화력이 유지될 수 있는 안정된 촉매작용을 보였다. Temperature Programmed Desorption(TPD), TPR 실험과 TG 등의 분석결과 산소의 농도가 낮거나 무산소하에서 망간광석의 격자내 산소가 쉽게 제공될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 일산화탄소의 농도가 500~3500ppm일 때 일산화탄소의 반응차수는 0.701이며 3500~10000ppm구간에서 일산화탄소의 농도에 무관한 0차 반응이었다.

Depth Profiles of Heavy Metals in the Surface Sediments of $H^{o}edong$ Reservoir

  • We investigated the depth profiles of heavy metals in the surface sediments at Heedong reservoir in Pusan. Sampling was done at the intervals of 50 m of drift along the water channel into the reservoir. All samples were analyzed with an ICP-AES. We determined the content of Zn, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu, Cr, and Fe. The overall mean content of these heavy metals were observed to $(2.9\pm1.2){\times}10^{-3},\;(1.3\pm0.7){\times}10^{-3},$ $(1.9\pm2.1){\times}10^{-4},$ $(2.3\pm1.1){\times}10^{-2},\;(1.6\pm1.0){\times}10^{-3},\;and\;(4.5\pm2.6){\times}10^{-4}$ ppm/ppmFe, respectively excluding iron data. Mean contents of Cu show an increasing trend toward the surface of sediments, while those of Cd show a decreasing trend, and those of Pb and Cr are relatively stable. Comparing with the contents of heavy metals in soils at two sites of Kumjeong mountain, enrichment factors of heavy metals in the surface sediments were determined. Among heavy metals we investigated, copper showed the largest value of enrichment factor. Considering the maximum content of heavy metals in the surface sediment, the values of enrichment factors of Cu, Cd and Cr were significant, which were 22, 8.1 and 4.0, respectively. In leaching experiment, it appeared that Pb, Cd, Cr, and Fe in sediments were hardly leached out into water, We also examined the effect of pH on the content of heavy metals.
