Complete mixture preparation of reactants prior to catalytic reforming is an enormously important step for successful operation of a fuel reformer. Incomplete mixing between fuel and reforming agents such as air and steam can cause temperature overshoot and deposit formation which can lead the failure of operation. For that purpose it is required to apply computational models describing coupled kinetics and transport phenomena in the mixing region, which are computationally expensive. Therefore, it is advantageous to analyze the gas-phase reaction kinetics prior to application of the coupled model. This study suggests one of the important design constraints, the required residence time in the mixing chamber to avoid substantial gas-phase reactions which can lead serious deposit formation on the downstream catalyst. The reactivity of various gaseous and liquid fuels were compared, then liquid fuels are far more reactive than gaseous fuels. n-Octane was used as a surrogate among the various hydrocarbons, which is one of the traditional liquid fuel surrogates. The conversion was slighted effected by reactants composition described by O/C and S/C. Finally, threshold residence times in the mixing region of a hydrocarbon reformer were studied and the mixing chamber is required to be designed to make complete mixture of reactants by tens of milliseconds at the temperature lower than $400^{\circ}C$.

Underwater cavitation is one of the most important issues because it causes not only vibration and erosion of submerged bodies but also significant flow noise problems. In this paper, flow noise due to cavitation flows around the NACA66 MOD hydrofoil is numerically investigated. The cavitation flow simulation is conducted using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations based on finite difference methods. To capture the cavitation phenomena accurately and effectively, the homogeneous mixture model with the Merkle's cavitation model is applied. The predicted results are compared with available experimental data in terms of pressure coefficients and volume fraction, which confirms the validity of numerical results. Based on flow field analysis results, hydro-acoustic noise field due to the cavitation flow is predicted using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation derived from the Lighthill's acoustic analogy. The typical lift dipole propagation patterns are identified.

Ablation phenomena is very complicated because it includes momentum, energy and mass transfer, chemical reactions as well as phase change. In this paper, ablation at the rocket nozzle throat is modeled as unsteady one dimensional axi-symmetric with proper boundary conditions and field equation is solved numerically. Analytical results are compared with measured ablation data from firing experimental liquid rocket engine. Test variables are combustion pressure and mixture ratio. for low combustion pressure and low mixture ratio, the discrepancy between analysis and experiments are large but for the normal rocket operation range, two results show a simliar trend with maximum discrepancy of $100\%$.

HM10411 is a recombinant granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rG-CSF) that has been developing as a drug for neutropenia. In this study, antigenic potential of HM10411 was examined by active systemic anaphylaxis (ASA) in guinea pigs and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) in guinea pig-guinea pig system. HM10411 was subcutaneously administered at 0,5, and 50 mg/kg and also as a suspension with adjuvant (50 mg/kg+FCA). Ovalbumin (OVA) as a suspension with adjuvant was used to induce positive control responses. In the ASA test, no symptoms except urination and evacuation that were considered as physiological phenomena were observed at 0 and 5 mg/kg. Two of 5 animals at 50 mg/kg showed sneering, dyspnea, or cyanosis. All animals in the adjuvant mixture group showed severe symptoms of anaphylatic shock and 3 of them died. In the PCA test, no antibody against HM 10411 was detected in the sera from the animals sensitized with 0 or 5 mg/kg. Only 1 serum sample from the animals immunized with 50 mg/kg showed positive reaction against HM10411, while all 5 sera collected from the HM10411 and FCA mixture group contained the HM10411-specific antibodies. These results suggest HM10411 is considered to have antigenicity In guinea pig.
It has been known that, in enzymatic synthesis of cephalexin, the conversion yield was reduced by high loading of ampicillin acylase. In order to elucidate this phenomena, pH-controlled synthesis of cephalexin was examined using a purified Acetobacter turbidans acylase. When the pH of the reaction mixture was maintained at $6.20{\pm}0.04$, the reduction of the maximal conversion rate was not observed even with high enzyme loading. The kinetic parameters also suggest that pH drop during the enzymatic synthesis of cephalexin was mainly attributed to the rapid hydrolysis of D-${\alpha}$-phenylglycine methyl ester to D-${\alpha}$-phenylglycine, rather than the disappearance of 7-amino-3-deacetoxycephalosporanic acid for cephalexin synthesis. At higher molar ratio of two substrates, [D-${\alpha}$-phenylglycine methyl ester]/[7-amino-3-deacetoxycephalosporanic acid], the conversion rate was also elevated under pH-controlled enzymatic synthesis, which implies that the main reason for the pH drop is due to the production of D-${\alpha}$-phenylglycine methyl easter, the effect of a water-methanol cosolvent system on the ester, the effect of a water-methanol cosolvent system on the conversion profile was also examined. Even the though the conversion rate was increased in 10% methanol solution, a higher than 16% methanol in the reaction mixture caused an inactivation of enzyme.

In order to elucidate the turbulent burning velocity of the two-component fuel mixtures, the lean and rich two-component fuel mixtures, where methane, propane and hydrogen were used as fuels, were prepared keeping the laminar burning velocity nearly the same value. Clear difference in the measured turbulent burning velocity at the same turbulence intensity can be seen among the two-component fuel mixtures with different addition rate of fuel, even under nearly the same laminar burning velocity. The burning velocities of lean mixtures change almost monotonously as changing addition rate, those of rich mixtures, however, do not show such a monotony. These phenomena can be explained qualitatively from the local burning velocities, estimated by considering the preferential diffusion effect for each fuel component. In addition, a prediction expression of turbulent burning velocity proposed for the one-component fuel mixtures can be applied to the two-component fuel mixtures by using the estimated local burning velocity of each fuel mixture.

The turbulent flow resistance of water solution with polymer is reduced as compared with that of pure water. This effects is named th drag reduction and offers the significant reduction of the pumping power and the energy consumption. But the intense shear forces and the high temperature experienced by the polymer solution when passing through the pipes cause the degradation a loss of drag reduction effectiveness. Especially, the degradation behavior is found to be strongly dependent on temperature. This mechanical and thermal degradation can be avoided by adding materials such as surfactant to the polymer solution, which enhance the bonding force between molecules. In the present study, Copolymer and SDS were utilized and they were mixed in 10 different mixture ratios, while total concentration was fixed as 100wppm. Degradation of Copolymer-SDS mixture solutions was investigated experimentally in closed loop at the temperature of $10^{\circ}C\; and\; 80^{\circ}C$ with various flow average velocities of 1.5 m/sec, 3.0m/sec, and 4.5m/sec. Degradation characteristics of polymer solution without surfactant show a radical loss of drag reduction effectiveness at high temperature. Degradation alleviation ability of surfactant is especially effective at high temperature. Consequently, this results show that the addition of surfactant to the polymer solution can control unfavorable degradation phenomena for high temperature systems.

The characteristic of constant volume micro combustor was investigated experimentally. The shape of micro combustor was cylindrical and has row aspect ratio or has relatively large diameter compared with chamber height. Diameter and chamber height was varied to investigate the geometric effect of combustor on the flame propagation. Diameter of 15 mm and 7.5 mm was designed while chamber height was designed to be 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm. The effect of initial pressure was also investigated parametrically from 1bar to 3bar. The gas used in this study was stoichiometric mixture of methane and air. The maximum pressure achieved in down scaled combustors was lower than that of conventional combustor because heat loss to wall was dominant as expected. The maximum pressure responded favorably with the change of height of combustor and the initial pressure, the maximum pressure was also increased. The flame propagation was possible when the specific condition was satisfied. Although the quenching distance of stoichiometric mixture of CH4 and Air is 2.5 mm, the flame could propagate even under quenching distance as the initial pressure increased.

The nucleate boiling heat transfer experiments are performed using a ternary refrigerant R407C which is a candidate of alternatives of HCFC 22. The boiling phenomena for R-32, R-125, and R-134a which are the constituent refrigerants of R407C are also investigated to give the foundation of theoretical research for the mixture component boiling. The nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficients of R407C is less than those of HCFC 22 which has the similar physical and transport properties. Since the experimental results show the deterioration of boiling heat transfer coefficients of ternary mixture refrigerants R407C, the boiling heat transfer coefficients of R407C cannot be obtained by the linear combination of boiling heat transfer coefficients from its constituent components R-32, R125, and R134a.

Tribological properties of high temperature fade were investigated by changing relative amounts of ingredients in the brake friction material. Based on a simple experimental formulation containing 10 ingredients, friction materials were tested using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Twenty-five friction material specimens with different relative amounts of the ingredients were manufactured according to the constrained mixture design .The difference ($\Delta$${\mu}$=${\mu}$$\sub$max/. -${\mu}$$\sub$min/. ) of friction coefficients was measured to represent the high temperature fade. Results from elevated temperature tests showed that five ingredients including cashew, graphite, Sb$_2$S$_3$, ZrSiO$_4$, and Cu fibers played important roles on $\Delta$${\mu}$. In order to find relative importance on fade phenomena among these ingredients, ANOVA(analysis of variance) was performed in this investigation. Thirty-two friction material specimens by changing ${\pm}$50vol.% of these five ingredients were tested to examine the relative importance. Results showed that cashew, graphite '||'&'||' Sb$_2$S$_3$, and cashew '||'&'||' graphite aggravated the fade behavior and Cu fibers improved on fade resistance.
