Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are largely synthesized on Fe catalysts by catalytic chemical vapor deposition. The various shapes and compositions of these nanostructure CNTs were obtained by controlled parameters such as the reaction temperature, gas-mixing ratio. The influence of these parameters is investigated, together with observations of the produced materials after the purification processes. A diameter of CNTs, range from 2 to 10 nm, closely correlated with the size of the catalyst particle found attached to the tube end. The yield of CNTs was estimated to be 88.5 % and the purities of CNTs thus obtained were more than 80 %. The experimental results were documented with field emission scanning electron microscopy and raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy, both before and after the purification.
It is a essential to minimize production of by-products for economically effective petrochemical process. In order to find key factor to achieve the effective process, 2-dimensional computational fluid dynamics considering a variety of physics such as convective and radiative heat transfer and thermal cracking of ethane are carried out. The reactor is modeled as an isothermal tube, whose length is 1.2 m and radius is 0.01 m, respectively. At first, the axial distribution of representative by-products in ethane thermal cracking are investigated in each inner wall temperature conditions. Then the comparison between concentration of propene($C_3H_6$) and ethane conversion is discussed with respect to inner wall temperature conditions too. Finally, both reaction rate and turbulent kinetic energy are used to identify the production mechanism of $C_3H_6$ under the intersection point in the plot for $C_3H_6$ molar concentration and ethane conversion.

An apparatus for generating flames and more particularly the microwave plasma burner for generating high-temperature large-volume plasma flame was presented. The plasma burner was composed of micvrowave transmission lines, a field applicator, discharge tube, coal and gas supply systems, and a reactor. The plasma burner is operated by injecting coal powders into a 2.45 GHz microwave plasma torch and by mixing the resultant gaseous hydrogen and carbon compounds with plasma-forming gas. We in this work used air, oxygen, steam, and their mixtures as a discharge gas or oxidant gas. The microwave plasma torch can instantaneously vaporize and decompose the hydrogen and carbon containing fuels. It was observed that the flame volume of the burner was more than 50 times that of the torch plasma. The preliminary experiments were carried out by measuring the temperature profiles of flames along the radial and axial directions. We also investigated the characteristics for coal combustion and gasification by analyzing the byproducts from the exit of reactor. As expected, various byproducts such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, etc. were detected. It is expected that such burner cab be applied to coal gasification, hydrocarbon reforming, industrial boiler of power plants, etc.
Transgenic Nicotiana tabacum cells were cultivated for the production of murine granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (mGM-CSF) in both a stirred tank bioreactor and an airlift bioreactor with draft tube. Cell growth and mGM-CSF production in the airlift bioreactor were found to be better than those achieved in the stirred tank bioreactor. In the airlift bioreactor, 9.0g/L of cells and 2.2ng/mL of mGM-CSF were obtained (11.0g/L and 2.4ng/mL, respectively in shake flasks). Although the lag period was prolonged and mGM-CSF production was lowered by 33% in the stirred thank bioreactor as compared to the control culture, the maximum cell density was increased up to 12.0g/L due to better mixing by agitation at the higher cell density.

In this paper, we measured 3-dimensional temporal behavior of the light emitted from discharge cell of plasma display panel(PDP) as a function of the pressure using the scanned point detecting system. The detected light signal through the PM tube is sent on the oscilloscope and oscilloscope which is connected to PC with GPIB. The whole system is controlled by a PC. From the temporal behavior results, we could analyze the discharge behavior of panel with Ne-Xe(4%) mixing gas and 300torr, 400torr, 500torr pressure. The top view of panel shows that the discharge moves from inner edge of cathode electrode to outer cathode electrode forming arc type. At the 300torr, initial emission time is very fast. The side view of panel shows that the light is detected up to $150{\mu}m$ height of barrier rib. In the panel of 300torr, emission distribution is wider than the others.
Due to environmental concerns $CO_2$ has been reintroduced as a potential candidate to replace HFCs in refrigeration systems since 1990s. In a refrigeration cycle, oil is utilized in lubricating a compressor. However, although oil separators are installed after a compressor oil is prone to leak to the whole system. The mixing of $CO_2$ and oil, even a small amount of oil, the heat transfer performance in heat exchanger deteriorated and the pressure drop inside tube increases. Therefore, it is needed to precisely estimate the mixture thermodynamic properties of $CO_2$-lubricant oil to correctly design a $CO_2$ refrigeration system. The commonly used method in estimating the mixture properties is the mole based weighting model. However, the accuracy of the method can not be assured. In the present study, $CO_2$-lubricant oil mixture properties including viscosity and density were estimated by using the mixture models, based on the equation of state (EOS).

The Resonance Control Cooling System (RCCS) prototype installed in KAERI site has been designed to control the resonant frequency of the normal conducting drift tube linac (DTL) for the Proton Engineering Frontier Project (PEFP). The RCCS water pumping skid is composed of two channels as a by-passing the cooling water and a plate heat exchanger. The required temperature can be achieved by mixing both channels in order to control its the resonant frequency at 350 MHz. The temperature controlled water pumping skid operates in combination with the Low Level Radio Frequency (LLRF) system. We have discussed the design, modeling with each components, control scheme, fabrication and test results of the water pumping skid for resonant frequency control of the DTL cavity. In conclusion, the fabricated RCCS prototype through the optimization of modeling has corresponded with the design requirement and concept.

To improve the mixing and atomizing performance at the center region of the conventional coaxial shear injector spray, the concept of a coaxial porous injector was invented. This novel injection concept for liquid rocket engines utilizes the Taylor-Culick flow in the cylindrical porous tube. The 2-dimensional injector, which can be converted in three injection configurations, was fabricated, and several cold flow tests using water-air simulant propellant was performed. The hydraulic characteristics and the effects of a gas flow condition on the spray pattern and the Sauter mean diameter (SMD) was analyzed for each configuration. The atomizing mechanism of coaxial porous injector was different with the coaxial shear injector, and it was explained by the momentum of the gas jet, which is injected normally against the center liquid column, and by the secondary disintegration at the wavy interface of liquid jet, which was generated at the recessed region. The SMD of 2D coaxial porous injector, which has higher gas momentum, was measured and it shows better atomizing performance at the center and outer side of spray than the 2D coaxial shear injector.
The comparison of the flow characteristics between circular and swirl jets which were controlled by the spinner attachment inside the airtube were conducted in this study. Swirl jet means a flow in whirls by mixing the flow of axial and tangential direction. Swirl flow has been used for the improvement of the combustion efficiency in the combustor. This flow is controlled by the spinner which has several vanes inclined by certain angles to the axial direction. In this study, angle of vane $30^{\circ}$ and diameter ratio of outlet to inlet of the airtube 0.73 were made. These spec. should find on the general gun type burner built in the domestic small size boiler. As the flow characteristics, axial and tangential velocities were measured by using the 2-D hot-wire velocimeter system and analyzed statistically. And also this research conducted a practical experiment considering to the attached belongings likes as ignitor, nozzle etc. on the airtube of the gun type burner. As a result, swirl occurred at the occasion of beingness and flow region extended considerably toward the radial direction. But effect of swirl did not transmit to the downstream. And the complicated flow was appeared regardless of the existence of spinner because of the effect of belongings.
Microbubble technology has been widely applied in various industrial fields. Recently, research on many types of microbubble application technology has been conducted experimentally, but there is a limit in deriving the optimal design and operating conditions. Therefore, if the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of multiphase flow is used to supplement these experimental studies, it is expected that the time and cost required for prototype production and evaluation tests will be minimized and optimal results will be derived. However, few studies have been conducted on multiphase flow CFD analysis to interpret fluid flow in microbubble generators using swirl flow. In this study, CFD simulation of multiphase flow was performed to analyze the air-water mixing process and fluid flow characteristics in a microbubble generator with a dual-chamber structure. Based on the simulation results, it was confirmed that a negative pressure was formed on the central axis of rotation due to the strong swirling flow. And it could be seen that the air inside the suction tube was introduced into the inner chamber of the microbubble generator. In addition, as the high-speed mixed fluid collided with external water sucked by the negative pressure near the outlet, a large amount of microbubbles was ejected due to the shear force between the two flows flowing in opposite directions.
