To assay for antioxidant capacity of natural products considered important in producing human health benefits, a practical and economical method using pellet techniques was developed. A standard visualizing reagent, 1,1diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), was mixed with a water-miscible polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), serving as a solid phase support for the DPPH reagent. A DPPH pellet was prepared by dropping a small volume of the DPPH solution onto PET film, and drying in an oven. The PVA-based DPPH pellet was dissolved into water, in which the water-miscible PVA plays as a non-ionic surfactant to help the DPPH reagent to be dissolved into the solvent. Using the DPPH assay, the antioxidant capacity of water-soluble extracts of black soybean, barley, green tea, and green gram was examined. Among the natural products tested, green tea showed the highest antioxidant capacity. This PVA-based DPPH antioxidant assay can be further applied in the natural food, raw plant material, and health product inspection field.

Several instances of synergistic interaction have been identified between alkyl amine oxide and long chain fatty acohol polyethoxylates in various surfactant formulation. The purpose of this study was examined whether these benefits could be observed within the framework of generic hand-surface cleaning formulations. Comparative evaluation were also carried out to determine the performance characteristics of low-and zero-phosphate systems in which amine oxide and alcohol ethoxylates are used. Best cleaning was observed with 1:1 mixtures of the subject surfactants, but substantial improvements over fatty alcohol ethoxylate alone also were noted with formulations that contained lower ratios of amine oxide.

In order to reduce a signal delay in ULSI, low resistive metal and intermetal dielectric material of low dielectric constant are required. Ordered mesoporous silica film is proper to intermetal dielectric due to its low dielectric constant and superior mechanical properties. In this study, ordered mesoporous silica films was synthesized using TEOS (tetraethoxysilane) / MTES (methyltriethoxysilane) mixed silica precursor and Brij-$76^{(R)}$ surfactant. These films had the porosity of 40% and dielectric constant of 2.5. To lower dielectric constant, the ordered mesoporous silica films were surface-modified by HMDS (hexamethyldisilazane) treatment. HMDS substituted -OH groups on the surface of silica wall for -Si$(CH_3)_3$ groups. After the HMDS treatment, ordered mesoporous silica films were calcined at various calcination temperatures. Through the investigation, it was concluded that the proper calcination temperature is necessary as aspects of structural, electrical, and mechanical properties.

District heating and cooling systems offer highly efficient energy utilization and maintenance by centralizing heat management. More pumping power, however, is required because the water has to travel long distance from heat source to the users. In the present study, a trace of drag reduction additives is added to the District Cooling system to achieve a significant drag reduction and save pumping power. Water-soluble polymers, surfactants, and environment-friendly degradable polymers are used as effective drag reducing additives. Time dependent percent drag reductions are compared for various additive solutions at 100 wppm concentration for different water velocity. Without as an anionic surfactant, copolymer was most effective in percent drag reduction. It is found that there exists an optimal condition when copolymer is mixed with SDS. An environment-friendly degradable polymer, xanthan gum, is found to be a significant drag reduction additive. Ice slurry systems, can give less pressure drops compared with chilled water system for certain condtions. Drag reduction additives were also effective for the ice slurry system.
ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by laser ablation of the ZnO powder dispersed in deionized water and surfactant solutions, and characterized using UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer and Transmission electron microscopy(TEM). ZnO nanoparticles produced show the pure ZnO crystal state without mixed state with Zn(OH)2 or Zn, and have the band gap energy of 3.35 eV, which is comparable to that of bulk ZnO. While ZnO nanoparticles prepared in SDS solution have the average diameter of 28nm with near spherical shape, those prepared in CTAB solution have the average size of 40 nm with mainly rod-like shape. ZnO colloidal solution of CTAB is more stable than that of SDS. These difference according to surfactants can be explained by difference of electrostatic interaction between surface charge of ZnO and surfactant molecules and by solvation effect in solution.

The interaction and detergency between oily soil and surfactant solution were studied Samples used were tristearin, tripalmitin and their mixture as a triglyceride, myristic acid as a fatty acid and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactant. The results were as follows: 1. The mixtures of model oily soils were formed of eutectic point and their melting point were lower than them of individual oily soils. 2. The formation of liquid crystalline (LC) phase was recognized in the triangle phase diagram for SDS~ water~model oily soil system. The areas of LC phase region were in the order of SHS~ water~myristir acid> SDS~ water~mixture of tristearin, tripalmitin and myristic acid (TS/TP/M)>SDS~water~mixture of tristearin and tripalmitin (TS/TP) 3. The LC phase region expanded to wide concentration range of SDS solution and high concentration range of model oily soil with increasing temperature. Particularity, the LC phase region expanded highly at $30~40^{\circ}C$ but when the temperature was elevated above $40^{\circ}C$, expanding tendency decreased. 4. In the system of myristic acid and TS/TP/M contacted with SDS solution, the LC phase was already formed at $28^{\circ}C$ and the region of the LC phase were expanded with increasing temperature. But in the system of TS/TP contacted with SDS solution, the LC phase was not formed in whole experiment temperature. 5. The detergency of myristic acid was very high ann it was recognized that the formation of the LC phase played an important role in the detergency. The detergency of TS/TP was very for low, but when TS/TF was mixed with myristic acid, the detergency of TS/TP increased. It is supposed that the LC phase was formed butween SDS solution and myristic acid promoted to penetration of SDS solution into the inner parts of TS/TP.
Magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized by adding an ammonium hydroxide to a mixed solution of iron (II) and (III) chlorides. A silicon surfactant of ${\alpha},{\omega}$-(3-aminopropyl)polydimethylsiloxane was adsorbed on the particles as dispersant and a polydimethylsiloxane polymer was used to prepare ferrofluids of silicone oil base. Fluorinated surfactants of anionic ammoniated perfluoroalkyl sulfonamide and nonionic fluoroaliphatic polymeric esters were applied to the particles and a perfluoropolyether was used to prepare ferrofluids of fluorine oil base. The experimental conditions were used for preparing the ferrofluids with concentrations of 200, 300 and 400 mg/mL, and density, magnetization and viscosity of the products were characterized. The density values increased in proportion to the concentration, indicating 1.11-1.27 g/mL for silicone-oil-based fluids and 1.95-2.10 g/mL for fluorine-oil-based fluids in the range of 200-400 mg/mL. The saturation magnetization of the silicone-oil-based and fluorine-oil-based fluids indicated 14.7, 24.4, and 30.7 mT and 15.8, 23.3, and 33.7 mT for 200, 300, and 400 mg/mL, respectively, depending on the content of magnetic particles in the fluid. The viscosity of the silicone-oil-based ferrofluids was highly stable compared to that of the fluorine-oil-based with increasing temperatures. The ferrofluids are usually applied to seals and speakers with the silicone base and to seals with the fluorine base.
Modified poly(4-vinylpyridine) was obtained by partial quarternization of nitrogen atoms in pyridine rings of poly(4-vinylpyridine) with methyl group. By means of laser light scattering and fluorescence, it was found that this modified polymer chains were aggregated in the aqueous solution and its structure was core-shell type. The hydrophobic parts of the chains were densely condensed in core part and the hydrophilic part of quarternized amino with positive charge formed the shell part. In the mixed system of modified poly(4-vinylpyridine) and anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate, it was observed that a critical aggregation concentration existed and that this critical concentration was suddenly decreased above 0.1 M NaCl. The size change of aggregates was also investigated by dynamic light scattering while sodium dodecyl sulfate was added into polymer solution upto the critical aggregation concentration.
5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is an antimetabolic of the pyrimidine derivatives that is used in chemotherapy for the treatment of several types of cancer. 5-FU have poor oral absorption and short biological half-time and strong side effects. Microneedle introduced to find a solution of problems. Microneedle device with roll was manufactured for transdermal delivery of various drugs. 5-FU was mixed in non-ionic surfactant such as tween 20 and tween 80. Camscope was used to analysis the permeation magnitude of treated skin by microneedle and trypan blue staining. The 5-FU solution with surfactant measured by ZETA-potential analysis system for stability of solution. The skin permeation rate of 5-FU determined by HPLC. We confirmed that cross treated skin was dyed more deeply than parallel treated skin through trypan blue staining. The results indicate that skin permeation rate of 5-FU was increased with the treatment types and treatment times.

A non-ionic surfactant, Tween 80 has been known to exert a number of positive effects on degradative enzymes in in vitro aerobic and anaerobic microbial cultures. An experiment was conducted to examine effects of supplementation of Tween 80 on ruminal fermentation and nutrient digestibility of Hanwoo steers. The experiment was designed as a $3{\times}3$ Latin square with duplication and six Hanwoo steers with rumen cannulae, average weight 497 (SE 61.1) kg. For the experiment the animals were given a basal diet consisting of rice straw and compound feed mixed at 4:6 ratio. The three experimental treatments were (1) the basal diet, supplemented with (2) 5 g/d Tween 80 and (3) 10 g/d Tween 80. Ruminal pH was significantly (p<0.05) affected by Tween 80 supplementation at 6 h after feeding. Increasing supplementation levels of Tween 80 linearly increased the total VFA concentration. CMCase activity by the 10g/d supplementation of Tween 80 were significantly increased (p<0.05) by 24.4% compared with that of control. Digestibility of crude fiber was significantly increased (p<0.05) in Hanwoo steers fed the diet supplemented with 10 g/d Tween 80 compared with those of control, whilst digestibility of ether extract (EE) was linearly increased by increasing Tween 80 supplementation level (p<0.05). In other nutrient components, their digestibilities of Hanwoo fed diets supplemented with Tween 80 tended to increase. It is concluded that Tween 80 has a potential for industrial application as a feed additive to improve ruminant production.
