Willingness to Pay for Residential Water on Drought Conditions (가뭄시 가정용수에 대한 소비자 지불의사)

  • This Research analyzes the consumers' willingness to pay(WTP) for residential water on severe drought condition. The 7 large cities and 32 chronicle drought regions have been selected for this research survey. Results show that the consumers of large cities, which are relatively rich, think water quality is more important than quantity, but the consumers of 32 chronicle drought regions expressed just opposite. Dichotomous choice and open-ended questionnaire are mixed for the survey and Tobit model is applied in the analysis. As we expected, the higher the education level, the number of household member, and the income, the higher the WTP. When there is 25% reduction of supply, the WTP is about $2 per month. Contrary to the expectation, WTP is just slightly increased for 50% of water supply reduction. This is because of the resistance of tax as well as the limited actual experiences of water shortage so, they underestimated it. In any cases, actual WTP for actual water shortage is much higher than this result. More effective water supply and distribution schedule must be ready as a national and local level to prepare severe drought in the near future. Consumers are willing to pay higher price than the current level for water security. Water distributional system should be reconsidered and alternative source of water also be prepared.

Mineralogical and Geochemical Properties of Clay-silt sediments Exposed in Jangdongri, Naju, Korea (전남 나주시 장동리 지역에 노출된 적갈색 점토-실트 퇴적물의 광물 및 지화학적 특성)

  • Reddish brown clay-silt sediments covered granitoid weathering crust in the Jangdongri area, Naju, Korea. Mineralogical and geochemical properties of the ~2 m sediment section were investigated. The sediments were composed mainly of quartz (50%) and clay minerals (45%) with minor contents of K-feldspar, goethite, hematite, and gibbsite. The clay minerals were illite, illite-smectite mixed-layers, vermiculite, hydroxy-Al vermiculite, kaolinite, and halloysite. Mineral composition varied little through the section with the minor upward enrichment of plagioclase and chlorite. Abundant illitic clay minerals indicated the remote source of the sediments because clays derived by granite weathering in Korea were dominated by kaolin minerals. A comparison with the mineral composition of Asian dust (Hwangsa) suggested that plagioclase and K-feldspar disappeared by chemical weathering after deposition, resulting in the quartz and clay-rich sediments. Plagioclase and chlorite altered to kaolin and vermiculite, respectively. Goethite and hematite derived by the weathering of iron-bearing minerals stained the sediment to reddish brown color. The mineralogical and geochemical properties of the reddish brown clay-silt sediments were consistent with those of eolian deposits identified in Korea, supporting eolian origin of the Jangdongri sediments, requiring future confirmation including age dating and isotopic analysis.

A study on the denitrification and microbial community characteristics by the change of C/N ratio of molasses and nitrate nitrogen (당밀과 질산성 질소의 C/N ratio 변화에 따른 탈질 및 미생물 군집 특성에 관한 연구)

  • To compare the denitrification efficiency, this study used molasses and methanol were used as external carbon sources. Specific experimental conditions were classified according to C/N ratio conditions. The batch test showed that the denitrification efficiency increased as C/N ratios of molasses and methanol rose. The most suitable C/N ratio of molasses turned out 4:1 considering the concentration of the residue chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the denitrification efficiency, which was 91.4%. Specific denitrification rate (SDNR) drawn as a kinetic factor demonstrated that molasses and methanol showed similar SDNR values as C/N ratios of molasses and methanol increased. Under the condition of C/N ratio 4:1, 0.0292 g $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal/g mixed liquor volatile suspended solid (MLVSS)/day (molasses), 0.0299 g $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal/g MLVSS/day (methanol) were found. Sludge adapted to molasses showed that Bacterium Pseudomonas sp. and Bergeylla sp. dominated through an analysis of microbial community. In addition, some bacteria were high convergences than the variety of microbial community. Accordingly, it was assumed that molasses focus on growing microorganisms specialized in denitrification and applied as a replaceable external carbon source that can enhance denitrification performance.

Growth and Optical Conductivity Properties for BaAl2Se4 Single Crystal Thin Film by Hot Wall Epitaxy (Hot Wall Epitaxy(HWE)법에 의한 BaAl2Se4 단결정 박막 성장과 광전도 특성)

  • A stoichiometric mixture of evaporating materials for $BaAl_2Se_4$ single crystal thin films was prepared from horizontal electric furnace. To obtain the single crystal thin films, $BaAl_2Se_4$ mixed crystal was deposited on thoroughly etched semi-insulating GaAs(100) substrate by the Hot Wall Epitaxy (HWE) system. The source and substrate temperatures were $610^{\circ}C$ and $410^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of $BaAl_2Se_4$ single crystal thin films measured from Hall effect by van der Pauw method are $8.29{\times}10^{-16}cm^{-3}$ and $278cm^2/vs$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $BaAl_2Se_4$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)=3.4205eV-(4.3112{\times}10^{-4}eV/K)T^2/(T+232 K)$. The crystal field and the spin-orbit splitting energies for the valence band of the $BaAl_2Se_4$ have been estimated to be 249.4 meV and 263.4 meV, respectively, by means of the photocurrent spectra and the Hopfield quasicubic model. These results indicate that the splitting of the ${\Delta}so$ definitely exists in the ${\Gamma}_5$ states of the valence band of the $BaAl_2Se_4/GaAs$ epilayer. The three photocurrent peaks observed at 10 K are ascribed to the $A_1$-, $B_1$-exciton for n =1 and $C_{31}$-exciton peaks for n=31.

The Influence of Temperature and Water Stress on the Varietal Reactions of Rice to the Inoculum of the Blast Infected Leaves (BIL) (도열병 이병엽접종원에 대한 수도 품종의 반응에 미치는 온도 및 Water Stress의 영향)

  • Using the milled, blast infected leaves (BIL) as an inoculum source on the screening for the resistance to blast of rice plant was a simple and useful technique. The temperature with high (25^\circ C\sim 35^\circ C) and low (15^\circ C\sim 28^\circ C) and the water stressed or not, was conditioned of to the inoculation with the BIL to the test varieties in seedling stage. In low temperature, most of the varieties were more infected with blast, however the Indica-Japonica hybrids were more infected in high temperature conditions. The water stressed was more infected with blast than the not stressed. The interaction of variety with water stress was not so much as that of variety with temperature. Resistant reaction to blast (BIL) was not affected by the temperature and water stress, but the moderately resistant or susceptible one was much affected by them. Inoculum of BIL was virulent to the newly bred Indica-Japonica hybrid cultivars such as Tongil, Nopung, etc, but not virulent to the Japonica cultivars such as Nongbaek, Jinheung, etc. The discrete, mixed or variable lesions were observed mainly in the moderately resistant or susceptible cultivars such as Kanto 51, Yashiromochi, Ishikari-shiroke, etc.

Factors of Trichloroethylene Degradation by Methanotrophic Consortium Biofilm Reactor(MCBR) (혼합 메탄자화균 생물막 반응기에 의한 Trichloroethylene 분해의 영향 인자)

  • Methanotrophic consortium utilizing methane as the primary carbon source and secreting soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO) was immobilized on celite R-635 to continuously treat a wastewater containing trichloroethylene (TCE). With influent 2 ppm of TCE. 80.4 and 84.5% of TCE was degraded in 6 and 20 hour of hydraulic retention time (HRT). respectively. and the removal efficiency of TCE was increased with an increase in HRT in methanotrophic consortium biofilm reactor (MCBR). With influent 5 ppm of TCE and 10 hour of HRT. average efficiency of TCE removal was decreased in initial stage. but gradually increased to 81%. TCE was degraded to 88.5 and 96.5% with 10 and 15 hour of HRT. respectively. when methane was supplied alternately with continuous oxygen supply at influent 5 ppm of TCE. The efficiency of TCE degradation was decreased probably because oxidation reaction of methane was proceeded slowly on MMO. when high concentration of methane was supplied with depletion of oxygen. As results of the pilot-scale study. biodegradation of TCE by MCBR system might be feasible at full-scale operation.

Influence of Groundwater on the Hydrogeochemistry and the Origin of Oseepchun in Dogye Area, Korea (도계지역 오십천에서의 지하수 영향분석 - 수리지화학적 특성과 기원)

  • Water quality of Oseepchun, Dogye area, was investigated quantitatively for its origin and hydrogeochemistry in relation to the influence of groundwater. Groundwater appears to be the principal source of Oseepchun from the water-quality monitoring data including redox potentials, composition of dissolved ions and their correlations, hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopic ratios, and the distribution and occurrence of contaminants. Water-quality type of the surface water was grouped by the water-rock interactions as $Ca-HCO_3$ type originated from carbonated bed-rocks in the Joseon Supergroup, (Ca, Mg)-$SO_4$ type related with dissolution of surfide minerals in coal beds of Pyeongan Supergroup, and (Ca, Mg)-($HCO_3$, $SO_4$) type of the mixed one. Locally water pollution occurs by high $SO_4$ from mine drainage and $NO_3$ from waste-treatment facility. Intensive precipitation in summer has no effect on the water type of Oseepchun, but increases the inflow of nitrate and chloride originated from land surface. Results of this study direct that groundwater-surface water interaction is intimate, and thus surface-water resource management should begin with groundwater characterization.

Development of the Optimal Media for Mycelial Culture of Pleurotus eryngii using the Hot-water Extract of Raw Materials (천연배지 열수추출물을 이용한 큰느타리버섯 균사배양 적합 배지 개발)

  • Hot-water extracted natural media were made from raw materials for mycelial culture of Pleurotus eryngii. Poplar sawdust, wheat bran and rice bran were used as substrates for hot water extraction. The mixed substrates of poplar sawdust, wheat bran, and rice bran with 50 : 20 : 30 (v/v/v, PWR523) and 50 : 30 : 20 (v/v/v, PWR532) were optimal for mycelial growth of P. eryngii, respectively. The hot-water extracted natural media from PWR523 and PWR532 showed a rapid mycelial growth and spawn running compared to PDA. There was no significant difference in mushroom yield when the mycelium grown on the hot-water extracted natural media was used as the inoculum source for producing fruit body.

Entrepreneurs' Competencies and Business Performance: A Meta-Analysis (창업가의 역량이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical basis for future studies by systematically integrating existing empirical studies that examine the relationship between the entrepreneurs' competencies and business performance. As the results of empirical studies examining the relationship between the entrepreneurs' competencies and business performance are mixed, this study tries to derive different results from individual studies through meta-analysis into standardized statistics(effect sizes). To accomplish the purpose, this study developed hypotheses about the positive effects of the entrepreneurial competencies including opportunity recognition competency, managerial competency, technical-functional competency, strategic competency, and relationship competencies on the business performance through theoretical reviews of the literature. Also, this study conducted meta-analysis with 15 sample data using open source based statistical program 'R'. The results of this study are as follows. The opportunity recognition competency, managerial competency, technical-functional competency, strategic competency, and relationship competency were found to significantly affect financial business performance. Also, each of the factors had a moderate effect size on the performance. Among these competencies, the most effective factor was the strategic competency, followed by the opportunity recognition competency, technical-functional competency, and relationship competency. There is still no study using meta-analysis on the relationship between the entrepreneurs' competencies and business performance in South Korea. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to provide implications for developing the theoretical basis of future studies.

Study on the Lowering of NaCl Content by Co-composting Food Wastes (저농도 식염을 함유하는 음식물쓰레기 퇴비제조)

  • High salt content in food waste limit use as the potential source of compost. Since sodium chloride content should be lower than one percent to meet requirement for agricultural use of compost, we attempted use of three kinds of co-composting material for food wastes compost, which were fermented, dried, and fresh types of amendments which included pig manure, sawdust and puffed rice hull. Food wastes were composted well and stabilized after around the 40th days of composting. Little difference were found between composts amended sawdust and puffed rice hull. The result indicated that puffed rice hull could be used as a good alternative of sawdust. Because sawdust or puffed rice hull were mixed as amendments to control water contents and to dilute high NaCl content of compost material, the C/N ratios of the final products were significantly high over 40. However, NaCl contents of final products were dropped to less than percent on the fresh weight basis by mixing food wastes and the above amendments with the optimum rates.
