In recent years, the use of high-strength concrete has increased with increasing height and enlarging scale of the buildings However, it has been pointed out that the use of high-strength concrete is the most serious problem compared to ordinary concrete in terms of the spalling of concrete cross sections caused by fires. For this reason, fiber cocktail methods, which are made of polypropylene fibers, nylon fibers, etc., are mainly used to improve the fire resistance performance. However, the majority of research on high-strength concrete to which the fiber cocktail method was applied is mainly focused on the effect of reducing spalling, and few studies have investigated and analyzed the effect of micropores produced by melting PP fibers on the long-term durability of high-strength concrete after a fire. Therefore, in this study, the effect of micropores on the depth of carbonation was examined through carbonation tests and microstructure analysis, assuming high-strength concrete to which fiber-mixed construction method was applied, which caused fire damage.
Layered double hydroxides ($Mg-Al-CO_3$ systems, LDH), which are hydrotalcite-like anionic clay minerals, having different $Mg^{2+}\;to\;Al^{3+}$ ratio were synthesized by coprecipitation method. The subsequent products were characterized by the following methods; elemental analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis (DSC and TGA), FT-IR and $^{27}$Al-MAS NMR. X-ray powder patterns showed that the products formed were layered structure materials. Two heat absorption peaks were observed around 20 ∼280$^{\circ}C$ (surface water and interlayer water) and 280∼500$^{\circ}C$ (water from lattice hydroxide and carbon dioxide from interlayer carbonate) in DSC diagrams, and they were quantitatively analyzed by TGA diagrams (in case LDH4 16.2% and 28.6% respectively). FT-IR spectra indicate that the interlayer carbonate ions occupied symmetrical sites between two adjacent layers in a parallel direction. $^{27}$Al-MAS NMR spectra show only single resonance (8.6 ppm) of the octahedrally coordinated aluminum similar magnesium. When LDH4 was calcined at 560$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours in air, its layered structure was destroyed giving a mixed metal oxide. However it readily became rehydrated in aqueous chromate solution to its original structure.
Traffic data by vehicle classification is difficult for mutual exchange of data due to the different vehicle classification from each other by the data sources; as a result, application of the data is very limited. In Particular. in case of TCS vehicle classification in national highways, passenger car, van and truck are mixed in one category and the practical usage is very low. The research standardize the vehicle classification to convert other data and develop the model which can estimate national highway traffic data by the standardized vehicle classification from the raw traffic data obtained at the highway tollgates. The tollgates are categorized into several groups by their features and the model estimates traffic data by the standardized vehicle classification by using the point estimation and bootstrap algorithm. The result indicates that both of the two methods above have the significant level. When considering the bias of the extreme value by the sample size, the bootstrap algorithm is more sophisticated. Using result of this study, we is expect the usage improvement of TCS data and more specific comparison between the freeway traffic investigation and link volume on freeway using the TCS data.
Monitoring of Listeria monocytogenes, the causative agent of listeriosis, in food is inportant for public health. The Korean Food Standards Codex has adopted a 'zero-tolerance' policy for L. monocytogenes. The standard detection method of L. monocytogenes is based on enrichment. Thus, proper enrichment methods need to be instituted to ensure quality control of the detection procedures. In this study, the growth of L. monocytogenes and Listeria innocua as a mixed culture in Listeria enrichment broth (LEB) was monitored during artificial contamination of enrichment culture. We confirmed competitive growth or interspecies inhibitory activity of L. monocytogenes and L. innocua. Interspecies growth differences and the inhibitory activity of different inoculation and mixtures L. innocua against L. monocytogenes were examined. The concentration of L. monocytogenes must be 2.0 log CFU/mL or more than L. innocua to grow better than L. innocua. It is known that Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes show growth difference during LEB, resulting in the risk of false-negative results. The inhibition of L. monocytogenes by L. innocua was always observed when present at lower concentrations. However, it was confirmed that L. innocua suppressed when L. monocytogenes was present at a higher concentration. Therefore if a mixture of Listeria spp. is present, detecting L. monocytogenes is difficult. Thus, a new enrichment broth to improve the detection rate of L. monocytogenes is needed.

Purpose : This study was conducted to evaluate epidemiological data of the viral pathogens obtained from stool exams and provide information on the regional prevalence of infectious diarrheal disease west in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Methods : We enrolled a cohort of children <10 years of age admitted for treatment of acute diarrhea at Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea. In total, 310 fecal specimens, documented to be free of common bacterial pathogens, were collected from pediatric patients during a 12-month period from January to December 2009 and were tested for the presence of rotavirus, parechovirus, adenovirus, astrovirus, enterovirus, and norovirus using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay. Results : The most common virus was parechovirus (16%), followed by adenovirus (15%), astrovirus (14%), rotavirus (13%), and enterovirus (5%). Interestingly, only one of the specimens was positive for norovirus. Single infection cases were detected in 173 (55.8%) of the 310 children, whereas mixed viral infections were detected in 10 (3.2%) of the same children. Viral gastroenteritis generally showed a double peak of incidence. Parechovirus, rotavirus, and adenovirus shared a similar pattern of peak incidence with overall viruses; however, astrovirus infections occurred more frequently in the spring. Eighty-five percent of the confirmed viral gastroenteritis cases developed in under 24 months. Conclusion : The results support the importance of parechovirus, adenovirus, astrovirus, and enterovirus as causative agents of diarrhea in children, which may be underestimated by current routine diagnostic testing.

This study is aimed to prepare the effective detail survey methods(Phase II) of abandoned metal mines through the contamination assessment for mine types and facilities in the abandoned metal mine areas. The study sites of 12 abandoned mines are located in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do and those were chosen among 310 sites that the Phase II survey was conducted from 2007 to 2009 after considering the results of Phase I for abandoned mines scattered all over the country. 12 study sites were classified into four types; Type I sites only have pit mouth. Type II sites have pit mouth and mine-waste field. Type III sites have pit mouth and tailing sorting field. Type IV sites have pit mouth, tailing sorting field and concentrator(s). In forest land, paddy soil and farm land of Type I, As and Cd were showed average concentration, and Cu and Pb were high on the pit mouth area in one mines where the pit mouth was developed within 500 m. In the mines of Type II, Cu and Pb were showed average concentration too, but As and Cd were slightly high in pit mouth and mine-waste field. The mines of Type III which had grinding particle process through physical separation milling or hitting showed similar tendency with Type II. However, mines of Type IV pit mouth, mine-waste field and showed various results depending on defining the contamination sources. For example, if contamination source was pit mouth, the mixed results of Type I, II, II were showed. In tailing sorting field which was regarded as the most important source and having high mobility, however, if there were no facilities or it was difficult to access directly, field sampling was missed occasionally during phase I and phase II survey. For that reason, the assessment for tailing sorting field is missed and it leads to completely different results. In the areas of Type I mines, the concentration of heavy metals exceeded precautionary standards of soil contamination or not within 1,000 meters of pit mouth. Nickel(Ni) was the largest factor of the heavy metal contamination in this type. The heavy metals except Arsenic(As) were shown high levels of concentration in Type II areas, where pit mouth and mine-waste field were operated for making powder in upriver region; therefore, to the areas in the vicinity of midstream and downstream, the high content of heavy metals were shown. The tendency of high level of heavy metals and toxic materials contained in flotation agent used during sorting process were found in soil around sorting and tailing field. In the abandoned-pit-mouth area, drygrinding area and tailing sorting field area, the content of Cupper(Cu) and Zinc(Zn) were higher than other areas. Also, the contaminated area were larger than mine reclamation area(2,000 m) and the location of tailing sorting field was one of the important factors to estimate contaminated area.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how induced microcurrent shoes influenced changes of the blood circulation in patients with Plantar Fasciitis. Methods: Initially, the subjects were comprised of 5 males and 5 females, who agreed with this research and are more than fifty years old, but 4 of those were dropped during the experiment. They all have plantar fasciitis and pain on their feet. Subjects wore the induced microcurrent shoes for more than 4 hours everyday during 4 weeks. When they wore those shoes, they also wore the specially produced shocks made of silver-mixed thread and they were asked to avoid intense exercise. Assessments were carried out before and after walking on a treadmill and we measured changes between the test before and after 4 weeks. In the examination of the before test, general shoes were used, and in the examination of the after test, induced microcurrent shoes were used. Temperature difference was measured by thermograpy DOREX spectrum 9000MB(USA). Subjects walked total 20 minutes and during gait, the walking rate on a treadmill was increased from 2Km/h to 3Km/h after 10 minutes. We measured plantar temperature by thermograpy especially both heel, 1st, and 5th metatarsal areas. Results: Firstly, in comparison of the blood circulation on the left and right foot at 0 week and 4 weeks, it tended toward increasing blood circulation but there was. no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Secondly, in comparison of the blood circulation before and after treadmill with the induced microcurrent shoes, the blood circulation of the heel and the 5th area on the right foot was increased to all subjects(p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that subjects showed tendency to increase blood circulation in both right and left feet after wearing microcurrent shoes and specially after walking treadmill at 4 weeks. Therefore induced microcurrent shoes are useful to improve blood circulation for patients with plantar fasciitis.
Along with the worldwide rapid increase of the cultivation area and commercial production of genetically modified (GM) crops, the amount of GM grains imported to Korea has also been increasing. Roundup-Ready soybean (RRS) was introduced with 5-enolpyruvyl shikimate-3-photphate synthase (EPSPS) gene derived from Agrobacterium CP4 to confer the resistance to herbicide, glyphosate. In this study, we tried to develop PCR-based analytical method to detection the presence of RRS among non-GM soybeans. In order to detect RRS specifically, oligonucleotide primers were specifically designed based on the nucleotide sequence of EPSPS transgene. Qualitative PCR method was established and its specificity and accuracy were confirmed by analysing the nucleotide sequence of PCR DNA fragments. Bioassay was also conducted by spraying glyphosate at seedling stage. Survived individuals showed obvious resistance to Roundup Ready, however all of non-GM seedlings died in two weeks after spray. Conclusively, the highly selective detection systems for RRS were successfully established by both PCR using specific primers to EPSPS transgene and bioassay using the herbicide resistance of RRS. In addition to, the imported soybean showed to be mixed to several varieties regarding to 100-seed weight and hilum color.
In order to improve T-N and T-P removal in HF (horizontal flow)-HF hybrid constructed wetlands by natural purification method for treating the hydroponic wastewater in greenhouses, the efficiency of water treatment as affected by the injection method of hydroponic wastewater, the addition of special filter media, the particle size of filter media, and the injection ratio of hydroponic wastewater in $1^{st}$ HF and $2^{nd}$ HF beds were investigated in small-scale HF-HF hydroponic wastewater treatment apparatus. Removal rate of T-P in the water in HF-HF hydroponic wastewater treatment apparatus with calcite as affected by addition method of special filter media was higher than that in HF-HF hydroponic wastewater treatment apparatus with other filter media. Removal rate of BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P in the water in mixed filter media with calcite were 86, 84, 87, 50 and 97%, respectively. Removals of pollutants except for T-P in the water were slightly different. Therefore, it should be considered that the removal rate of T-P was good for calcite in HF-HF hydroponic wastewater treatment apparatus. To improve T-N and T-P removal, the optimum particle size of filter media was 1.2 mm, and the optimum injection ratio ($1^{st}$ HF bed : $2^{nd}$ HF bed) of hydroponic wastewater was 60:40.
