Modified poly(4-vinylpyridine) was obtained by partial quarternization of nitrogen atoms in pyridine rings of poly(4-vinylpyridine) with methyl group. By means of laser light scattering and fluorescence, it was found that this modified polymer chains were aggregated in the aqueous solution and its structure was core-shell type. The hydrophobic parts of the chains were densely condensed in core part and the hydrophilic part of quarternized amino with positive charge formed the shell part. In the mixed system of modified poly(4-vinylpyridine) and anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate, it was observed that a critical aggregation concentration existed and that this critical concentration was suddenly decreased above 0.1 M NaCl. The size change of aggregates was also investigated by dynamic light scattering while sodium dodecyl sulfate was added into polymer solution upto the critical aggregation concentration.
5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is an antimetabolic of the pyrimidine derivatives that is used in chemotherapy for the treatment of several types of cancer. 5-FU have poor oral absorption and short biological half-time and strong side effects. Microneedle introduced to find a solution of problems. Microneedle device with roll was manufactured for transdermal delivery of various drugs. 5-FU was mixed in non-ionic surfactant such as tween 20 and tween 80. Camscope was used to analysis the permeation magnitude of treated skin by microneedle and trypan blue staining. The 5-FU solution with surfactant measured by ZETA-potential analysis system for stability of solution. The skin permeation rate of 5-FU determined by HPLC. We confirmed that cross treated skin was dyed more deeply than parallel treated skin through trypan blue staining. The results indicate that skin permeation rate of 5-FU was increased with the treatment types and treatment times.
The critical micelle concentration(CMC) and the counterion binding constant(B) for the mixed micel-lization of sodium n-octanoate(SOC) with n-octylammonium chloride(OAC) were determined as a function of the overall mole fraction of $SOC({\alpha}_1).$ Various thermodynamic parameters($x_i$, $Y_i$, $C_i$, $${\alpha}_i^M$$, and $\Delta$$H_{mix}$) for the mixed micellization of the SOC/OAC systems have been calculated and analyzed by means of the equations derived from the nonideal mixed micellar model. The results show that there are great deviations from the ideal behavior for the mixed micellization of these systems. And other thermodynamic parameters(${\Delta}$$G^0_m$, ${\Delta}$$H^0_m$, and ${\Delta}$$S^0_m$) associated with the micellization of SOC,OAC, and their $mixture({\alpha}_1=0.5)$ have been also estimated from the temperature dependence of CMC and B values, and the significance of these parameters and their relation to the theory of the micelle formation have been considered and analyzed by comparing each other.
Concentrated liquid detergents have 2~3 times higher surfactant contents [35~45% (w/w)] compared to those of normal type detergents. In general, a single surfactant forms a lyotropic liquid crystal (LC) phase when the concentration is in the region of 30~60% (w/w). Whereas the concentrated liquid detergent at about 40% (w/w) concentration in a mixed surfactant system shows an opaque appearance of gel or LC. In order to meet consumer needs and preference for product appearance, we applied hydrotropes and various surfactants systems in concentrated liquid detergents to obtain an opaque gel-phase and also a clear transparent phase at even below zero $^{\circ}C$ temperature. The more effective hydrotropes for making concentrated liquid detergents are 1,6-hexanediol, adipic acid and dipropylene glycol (DPG) which have two hydrophilic groups in both terminated positions. In order to prepare an excellent concentrated liquid detergent, good hydrotropes alongside secondary type surfactants like LAS and SAS were used. The formation of LC phase of concentrated liquid detergents at about 40% (w/w) concentration could be prevented by the use of both hydrotropes and secondary type surfactants. The result indicate that concentrated detergents having excellent low temperature stability and controlled viscosity can be prepared.

In order to investigate the effect of nonionic surfactants on the antimicrobial activity of preservatives in the presence and absence of p.0.E(20) Sorbitan fatty acid ester commonly used in cosmetics and pharmaceutical systems, these experiments were carried out by determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentration(MIC) values and MIC values of adaptation against test organisms. And also the inactivation of the preservative against each microorganism in formula added with various concentrations of P.0.E(20) Sorbitan monostearate were measured by use of a preservative death time curve The results obtained were as fort low : 1) Nonionic surfactant inactivated Methylparaben to varying extents, but not Imidazolidinyl urea. 2) A combined preservative system was inactivated to a little extent (range of 0.16-0.20% Conc.), no adaptation was observed for the 5. aureus ATCC 6538. Imidazolidinyl urea complex combined with Methylparaben had a broad antibacterial spectrum against the Gram(.) and the Gram(-) bacteria It was found that preservatives had a synergistic effect by use of mixed form of preservatives, 3) In formula preserved with 0.2% Methylparaben containing 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% P.0.E(20) Sorbitan monostearate, E. coli ATCC 10s36 and P. aeruginosa NCTC 10490 died quickly within in 2hr 4) However, from Fig.5, S. aereus ATCC 6538 died more slowly within increasing surfactant concentration and the D-values(Decimal reduction time) were 5.2, 8 and 14 hr. for samples containing 0.5, 1 0 and 2.0% P 0. E(20) Sorbitan monostearate, respectively. 5) In the case of Methylparaben, no adaptation for the E. coli ATCC 10536 6) All of the nonionic surfactant, p.0. E(20) Sorbitan fatty acid ester used in the experiments decreased the effectiveness of Methylparaben, but not of Imidazolidinyl urea.
Nonyphenol (NP) used actively as non-ionic surfactant is classified as one of most potent endocrine disrupting chemicals. Effects of NP on mixed function oxygenase (MFO) system in rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) were investigated for seven days after intraperitoneal injection (10 and 25 mg $kg^{-1}$). Hepatosomatic index (BSI) of fishes exposed to NP of 25 mg $kg^{-1}$ was significantly reduced compared to those in control group. NP exposure enhanced cytochrome P450 levels in the fish liver, while 7 ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity was inhibited. NP exposure levels in this study were much higher than those found in the coastal environment of Korea. Effects on HSI and liver MFO system, which is involved in steroid hormone metabolism, imply that W may influence on reproduction of fish by not only hormone receptor mediated response but also through effects on the MFO system.
The determination of uric acid in urine samples was studied by a chemiluminescence measurement using tris (2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II)-octylphenylpolyglycolether [Ru$(bpy)_3^{2+}$ -OPE] system. The oxidized uric acid by Ce(IV) excited Ru$(bpy)_3^{2+}$ to emit a chemiluminescence in this system so that the intensity was stoichio-metrically dependent upon the concentration of uric acid. In a reaction cell, a luminescent reagent, oxidant, surfactant and sulfuric acid were flowed into and mixed with a taken sample. Experimental conditions were optimized to obtain the maximum intensity of chemiluminescence. Each reactant solution of more than the following concentration gave a good result: $2\;{\times}\;10^{?4}$ M Ru$(bpy)_3^{2+}$ , 0.01 M Ce(IV), 6% OPE, and 0.33 M $H_2SO_4$. Any interferences were not shown in this process by the investigation of concomitant constitutes such as albumin, creatine, lactic acid, glucose, urea, $Cl^?,\; Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$ and so on. The linearity of a calibration curve was good with r = 0.998, the relative standard deviation of the slope was 3.3% and the detection limit was 5.6ng/mL. The recoveries of 80 to 91% were obtained from the standard spiked samples. The values were little bit low, but this procedure could be considered to be reliable for the determination of trace uric acid in urine samples.
To solubilize practically insoluble biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (DDB), which has been used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis as tablets or hard capsules, the solubilities of DDB in various hydrophilic, oily and hydrocarbon vehicles, and aqueous surfactant solutions were measured by high performance liquid chromatography. It was found that, among the vehicles studied, polyethylene glycol (PEG) 300 revealed the best solvency, and the solubility reached 17.6 mg/ml at 37$^{\circ}C$. The addition of glycyrrhizic acid ammonium salt (GAA) to DDB-PEG 300 solution (5-20 mg/g) inhibited the formation of precipitates, and at the concentration of 10 mg/g, any precipitaction was not observed even after 2 years at 4$^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, GAA markedly enhanced the permeation of DDB through the rabbit duodenal mucosa in a concentration dependent manner. The addition of copolyvidone (ca. 1.0%) to DDB-GAA-PEG 300 system (1 : 0.5 97.5 w/w) was most effective in preventing the considerable precipitation of DDB-PEG 300 solution (7.5 mg/750 mg) when mixed with water of 300-900 ml at 37$^{\circ}C$. GAA showed a synergistic effect in the prevention of precipitate formation. This finding suggests that this DDB formulation may form less precipitation when DDB soft capsules disintegrate and diffuse into the gastrointestinal fluid, resulting in improving the bioavailability Dissolution rate of DDB (7.5 mg) from sort elastic capsules of DDB-GAA-PEG 300 system was rapid. The supersaturation state was maintained for 2 hr at the concentration of 7.35$\pm$3.3 mg in 900 ml of water without precipitation. The total amount of DDB dissolved from this new formulation was 5.3 and 6.1 times higher, when compared to marketed DDB tablets (25 mg) and capsules (7.5 mg), respectively.
Transparent, abrasion resistant coatings with 4~13 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were prepared by spin-coating on polycarbonates with organic/inorganic hybrid solutions, followed by UV curing and heat treatment at 12$0^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours. The coating solutions were composed of inorganic phase and organic phase in 0:100, 20:80, 30:70, 50:50, 80:20 wt% ratios, respectively, mixed with photoinitiator, senaitizer and surfactant. The inorganic phase was formed by sol-gel reaction of TEOS and silane coupling agent MPTMS in 1 : 2 or 2 : 1 molar ratios, the organic phase consisted of difunctional urethane acrylate oligomeric resin, multifunctional acrylate TMPTA and HDDA in 4 : 3 : 3 wt% ratio. The coating systems were investigated by FT-IR, $^{29}$ Si-NMR spectra. In addition, TGA/DSC for thermal analysis and SEM, AFM observation for coated surface were examined. Gererally, the homogeneity of phases, the surface smoothness of coating and abrasion resistance were improved with the higher content of inorganic component. Namely, coating system with below 10 $\AA$ surface roughness and T$_{g}$ of 15$0^{\circ}C$ showed only 10% decrease in light transmittance after abrasion test, whereas uncoated polycarbonate substrate exhibited 46% decrease..
